Book Review: All Your Pain by Hana Meadows Swipe for synopsis and speedy review 👀 Okay so I will forewarn that Dean & Willow's story is on the daaaaaark side so for the love of God please read all TW's before you dive into this work. I enjoyed the captor/captive storyline that we jump into quite quickly within the book but I would have like to see a bit more character/story background going on. I feel like we got a lot of action about things but not a whole lot of information about those parts (so I basically wanted a longer book 😂). Dean is a great and protective MC but I will say in the spicy scenes that went out the window so ensure you like your world dark. An MMC who can't feel pain made for an intriguing plot point though and the ramifications that had both good and bad and I feel perhaps things got wrapped up a bit too neatly at the end. West Heart Kill by Dann McDorman 😍😐😐😐😐 The synopsis for this book filled me with so much hope and I was truly looking forward to reading it. However within the first handful of pages I had a horrible feeling that it wasn’t going to be for me and unfortunately I was correct. The book is a strange mixture of first, second and third perspective and an even stranger mix of murder mystery story and what felt like a text book on the history of murder mystery writing. The found the constant switch between the two very jarring and made me lose engagement. I wish that the characters had made up for what I felt like I was lacking in plot and atmosphere, but they didn’t do much to please me either. I didn’t feel any connection to any of them and not only did I not particularly care about the victims, but I wasn’t really bothered about who the murderer was either. If you’ve read this far, it’s no secret that this book was just not it for me. I feel like the author had what could have been a cool idea, but tried too hard to make it clever and therefore sucked all of the joy out of reading it. Not every book can be for everyone, but a book can be something to someone and I hope that someone out there has enjoyed reading this.

Anthologie poétique Aujourd'hui, ces deux très beaux vers, songeurs, d'Henri Thomas. Les "barrières vagues" de la vie ne sont pas, à l'évidence, celles qui ouvrent sur la mort, mais plutôt sur la rêverie, sur l'ailleurs, sur ce qui n'est pas, aujourd'hui, dans nos yeux ou dans nos mains. Du reste, le beau titre de ce recueil le dit assez, on ne s'absente du monde que pour se rendre présent à tout ce qui n'est pas : souvenir du passé, attente d'un futur, désir d'autre chose, comparaisons, réflexions, bref toute cette vie de la conscience qui rend si particulière notre rapport à la réalité. Façon d'être et de n'être pas là, de vivre et de ne pas vivre tout entier au monde. Et il m'a semblé que la peinture d'Odilon Redon était bien destinée à illustrer ces deux vers. Elizabeth Winkler - Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Heresies: How Doubting the Bard Became the Biggest Taboo in Literature (2023) [Non-fiction] ★★★★☆ The suggestion that somebody else might be behind Shakespeare‘s works is considered by Shakespeare scholars as a conspiracy theory, but…why? At the risk of being banished from all Anglophone literary spaces, I must admit that I’ve always felt a little…apathetic towards Shakespeare. I studied him at school of course, and I’ve seen several of his plays, but I’ve never felt compelled to declare him the playwright of all playwrights. In fact, I’ve always felt a little suspicious of the unquestioning hero-worship of Shakespeare that seems to be so prevalent. So this book had me intrigued, and behind the sensational title, it’s actually a terribly interesting read. Winkler delves into the cult of Shakespeare, where it comes from and why people, scholars especially, are so entrenched in it, which was interesting in itself, and sets up the rest of the book well. It also articulated some of my own bewilderment around the British (well, English mostly) obsession with “the Bard.” Winkler summarises some of the more prominent theories around Shakespeare’s identity, the proposed evidence and the gaps and it’s all quite fascinating. She shares her thoughts but isn’t championing any particular theory, it’s more of an exploration of options. Indeed, none of the theories feel watertight - there’s too much missing evidence all-round, but I did finish the book pretty convinced that the guy we think of as Shakespeare is highly unlikely to have written such excellent plays. Frankly, based on the extremely limited available hard evidence about his life, it makes no sense at all. A fascinating, fairly entertaining exploration of some theories around Shakespeare’s identity and why questioning his identity is such a taboo - a strong interest in Shakespeare isn’t even necessary, just some general curiosity. I would have loved it so much if I had read it during my childhood because I was and still am very fond of spending time with animals and plants. This book should be read by the grown-ups along with the children. Children need nurturing and meaningful environment to blossom. All the costliest materialistic things can not give those parently love and care to them. Childhood is a very crucial phase which shapes our adulthood. ✩ • Ｒｅｖｉｅｗ • ✩ 𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞 - The Maidens 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫 - Alex Michaelides 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞 - Thriller 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 - 3✨ I read this with my husband and it was so nice to be able to discuss a book in person for a change! We both absolutely loved The Silent Patient so we had high hopes. The main character Mariana is a group therapist who heads to Cambridge to support her niece Zoe, as one of her friends got murdered on campus and finds herself doing her own investigation. When reading The Silent Patient, I found it to be a very slow burn whereas with The Maidens I found it very pacy & easier to read. It definitely kept you guessing throughout the book and had plenty of suspects to become invested in. Some chapters I absolutely loved and was like yep this is where it gets going but then the next couple of chapters were a little more dull. The way the story was connected loosely to Greek Tragedy was different and it is definitely a well written book. However, I find it a bit monotonous that a civilian always seems to solve the investigation rather than the professionals. Sono arrivato a fine lettura sfinito e barcollante, distrutto emotivamente con la consapevolezza di essermi lasciato alle spalle pezzi di me che adesso ho paura di perdere per davvero nella vita vera. Diritti intoccabili, di cui noi occidentali andiamo orgogliosi e di cui non temiamo la benché minima minaccia, in questa storia vengono lentamente oppressi, schiacciati con un dito poi due poi con l’Intera mano ed infine soffocati con i posti di blocco della polizia. Dove ragazzini poco più che adolescenti vengono torturati e poi uccisi come Regeni. Lynch, con questa storia distopica, mostra (con una penna disturbante che mi ha ricordato parecchio Saramago) uno Stato Irlandese lentamente oscurato dalle forze del partito nazionalista che è al potere. Lo fa con uno stile originale ed ipnotico: la disgregazione lenta ma costante della società, la consapevolezza del mutamento, la rassegnazione ad una vita quotidiana che non è più la stessa viene vissuta e spiegata al lettore attraverso la vita e le riflessioni dei protagonisti. Lynch è bravissimo nel raccontare la spirale autoritaria sempre dalla prospettiva soggettiva dei suoi personaggi. Sappiamo cosa sta succedendo dalle loro conversazioni, da ciò che leggono e ascoltano su giornali e telegiornali e, soprattutto, da ciò che sperimentano sulla propria pelle. Questo libro mi ha fatto capire quanto sia stato purtroppo troppo “facile” ribaltare un sistema e quanto sia stato ancora più facile avanzare con la dittatura. E quanto sia impossibile poi stravolgere i piani e riconquistare la libertà. Tutto inizia quando Larry Stack, un insegnante e leader del sindacato dei docenti, viene arrestato e detenuto senza spiegazioni dopo aver preso parte a una protesta. Sarà la moglie, Eilish, a raccontare il dramma di crescere 4 figli da sola contro un sistema che non vuole dare risposte ma solo far tacere. È crudo, impegnativo, disturbante e mi ha destabilizzato parecchio ma nonostante tutto questo libro deve vincere ogni premio esistente, indimenticabile. Alla prossima!📚

💜 L O V E R E D E S I G N E D 💜 Such an odd reading experience for me with this one, I couldn’t get into it at all, tried a few times but always got distracted, eventually forced myself to get through it and started to enjoy maybe half way through but even then it fell short for me. The way they went from constantly bickering to an exclusive couple was so confusing I feel like I missed a few chapters. I’m also finding that I like enemies to lovers less and less, I just find it so cringe and desperate, like grown adults bickering like children doesn’t do it for me. In hindsight I remember thinking the same about Sloane and Lucian in the first 2 Knockemout books, but they brought it back round in book 3! Оказа се, че е американски певец, известен със своята отявлена опозиция на фашизма. Сред дискографията му открих и песен със заглавие Miss Pavlichenko, май не е нужно да обяснявам, че това пък ме накара да потърся дали героинята е реална личност… и да, колкото и невероятно да звучи нейната история - Людмила Павличенко е реална личност. “Диамантеното око” разказва именно тази невероятна история, романизирайки и романтизирайки някои от реалностите на Втората световна война. Започваме през 1937 г., когато Людмила е все още студент в Одеса и майка, която се бори за развод. Като обучен снайперист, Мила се отправя към фронта, в деня на нахлуване на войските на Хитлер в родината й. Книгата описва чудесно както физическите, така и емоционалните предизвикателства, които войната поставя пред нея. 📚REVIEW📚 Home By @harlancoben ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Swipe for synopsis Ok so I’m going to start by saying that this book lost 0.5 of a star because of an inconsistency from the previous book to this one. Someone died in the last book who is suddenly alive in this one with no explanation. My searching found that the three books that follow Myron’s nephew, Mickey explain the how’s and whys but if you’ve not read them, then this book is missing parts which is highly confusing and disappointing. Anyway, other than the confusing start this book was again a really gripping read. Having moved away from his MB reps, Myron is looking forward to a future with Terese but when an old friend gets in touch about his missing cousin, Myron is once again drawn into another mystery. It had all you expect from a Myron Bolitar book with a couple of big twists. I highly recommend the series but I would advise reading Shelter, Seconds away and found between Live wire and Home so you get the whole story. Danke für den #buddyread ♥️ Auf Deutsch ist das Buch unter dem Namen „Girls Night“ bei @penguinbuecher erschienen 📚 . Es hat nicht lange gedauert, bis mich das Buch vollkommen in seinen Bann gezogen hat. Der Fall um die verschwundene Mädchen ist super spannend, mysteriös und seltsam, wodurch sich eine grandiose Atmosphäre aufbaut ☺️ Schnell wird klar, dass bei der ganzen Story irgendetwas nicht stimmen kann, die Lösung habe ich aber bis zur Auflösung nicht erraten. Zwischen den Kapiteln rund um Jenna und Olivia ist eine in kursiv geschriebene Geschichte parallel, die viele Fragen aufgeworfen hat. Auch wenn der Zusammenhang am Ende deutlich wird, hätte man da doch nochmal die ein oder andere Seite kürzen können. Das Ende war dann zwar schlüssig und hält auch nochmal eine überraschende Wendung bereit, aber trotzdem konnte ich die Beweggründe nicht ganz nachvollziehen 🤷🏻♀️ . Claire Douglas ist ja eher für ihre ruhigen #thriller bekannt und auch hier war es zwar nicht blutig, aber sehr atmosphärisch und mysteriös, was mir super gefallen hat. Ce livre a réussi à me faire apprécier ce personnage. Elle s'est battue toute sa vie pour son fils, elle n'a vécu que pour voir un Tudors régner sur le trône d'Angleterre et mettre fin à la guerre des deux roses. Margaret n'a pas eu une vie facile, dès sa jeunesse avec son premier mariage, l'auteur nous montre le manque d'amour qu'elle ressent autant par son époux que par son entourage. Elle se réfugie rapidement dans la religion et devient une femme très pieuse. J'avoue avoir apprécié le fait qu'une anglaise soit en adoration devant Jeanne d'Arc, Margaret se compare souvent à elle et la prend pour exemple. On pourrait croire que sa jeunesse difficile est pour quelque chose dans la femme qui sera plus tard considérée comme froide et mystérieuse. WHAT➡ I'm reading 🎧📚 Til Death by Miranda Lyn 🎤 Narrated by Teddy Hamilton & Jacci Prior WHERE ➡Listening from the Valley of the Sun, Tempe, AZ🌞 I'm not your typical fantasy reader. I do love me some ACOTAR, TOG & Fourth Wing, but this isn't my first genre by any stretch. I gotta say, though, the HYPE around this book.... floating around here on Bookstagram is REAL PEOPLE!!!! People are going bananas over this book & audio. The audio clips that Miranda has dropped have seriously gotten me so flippin' excited to listen to this. I've got some ALCs coming up quickly & so "my listening" choices will be limited & this book is gonna need some time & love & I don't wanna be rushed. Plus, it doesn't hurt, even a teeny tiny bit🤏, that one of my favorite narrators is voicing it. He's the bad guy.....or is he?🤔 It's gonna be nice to change things up a bit with some fantasy. This past month, I've honestly listened to some of the best audios EVER in the last 3 years. The writing has been spectacular & the performances by the narrators have been off the charts... AMAZEBALLS! Talent dripping from every word they speak! These were some audiobooks I probably wouldn't have chosen initially, but because of other accounts I follow & love, their recommendations led me there. So, if you've got a few people who you really vibe with, listen to what they have to say about books that maybe you wouldn't necessarily choose, but it's something they highly recommend. You might love it too, who knows? That's something I've learned in this weird little world of Booktok & I truly feel like I've broadened my reading experience because of it. Don't you fret your pretty little heads about my thoughts on this book. I'll be giving a full review. The story revolves around a guy named Avin, who caught up in a strange game in dangerous island. I adored Avin's Character who ends up in a tough situation and has to deal with it. The story is full of mystery and suspense. Author's writing is vivid and imaginative. The story is engaging from first to last. I loved the character development. The plot is thrilling , interesting and has many twists and turns. The story also deals with fate, who we are, and the decisions we make. You'll be hooked from start to finish.The writing is flawless.
