“Control Magic. Control the World.” Seems easy enough.<br />..<br />Many fantasy books follow similar tropes and themes - and as I have discussed before, I am a fan of this. I’m all for enemies to lovers, chosen one to save the world and adventure quests. Throw in great world building, magic, a map and kingdom politics and that sums it all up for what I love in a good fantasy series.<br />..<br />The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso is the first book in the Swords and Fire trilogy and ticks many of my must-haves. It’s full of political intrigue and dangerous magic. I’m yet to start this trilogy but look forward to it.<br />..<br />Zaira has grown up in the Raverran Empire where magic is scarce. Those born with it are controlled and must serve in the Falcon army. Zaira hides her mage mark and lives on the streets thieving to survive. “Hers is a rare and dangerous magic, one that threatens the entire Empire”.<br />..<br />Lady Amalia Coronado is a heiress and scholar and not meant to be a Falconer.
