Many fantasy books follow similar tropes and themes - and as I have discussed before, I am a fan of this. I’m all for enemies to lovers, chosen one to save the world and adventure quests. Throw in great world building, magic, a map and kingdom politics and that sums it all up for what I love in a good fantasy series.

The Tethered Mage by Melissa Caruso is the first book in the Swords and Fire trilogy and ticks many of my must-haves. It’s full of political intrigue and dangerous magic. I’m yet to start this trilogy but look forward to it.
