Obviously Satoru wants to find a permanent home for his beloved cat, but at the beginning we don't know why. In the course of the book little hints are dropped that point in a certain direction and turn out to be true at end of the book. The story is told from the perspective of Nana, the cat, whose observations are - as is typical for cats 😉 - quite sarcastic but spot on and made me laugh out loud quite a few times! We also get the perspectives of Satoru's friends and his aunt, who tell us readers about their relationships with Satoru and what was so special about them. So we get to know Satoru through the eyes of his cat, his friends and his aunt, and it becomes clear quite soon that Satoru is a very sensitive and kind young man, whose cat means the world to him. Die Thematik herum um die Artefakte und die Karten boten viel Spielraum für kleine und große Abenteuer, auch wenn mir dabei manchmal der Spannungsbogen etwas fehlte. Dafür war es ein seichtes vor sich hin fließen, was einen nur so durchs Buch getragen hat. Die Zusammenstellung der Piraten ist das, was das Buch so besonders macht. Jeder Charakter ist gut durchdacht und bringt seine eigene Geschichte mit. Es sind Menschen in allen Farben des Regenbogens zu finden, ohne das es irgendwie überladen oder erzwungen wirkt. Es lässt sich einfach wunderbar lesen und tut der Geschichte an keiner Stelle Abbruch. The Institution by Helen Fields ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book for me, had so much potential. I feel as though it was a slow burner, picked up then plummeted back down! However, the characters and the way the setting of the Institution was developed was very well written. The reviews given on the book both on cover and online were around 5 stars; for me this was not a true reflection of the book. The “twist” at the end felt rushed and I thought this could have been better. But again, I must emphasise that the way Helen Fields portrays the setting of the story and keeps adding to the main character, Connie’s background in a mental health institution was written well. What I didn’t expect was the silent despair, honest grief, and pure knowledge contained within the book’s pages. this book is a calm, sad, and lovely story about what and who we take for granted, as well as the small moments we don’t realise and treasure until they pass. It left me feeling hollow in an incredibly terrible way, helped me appreciate my asian culture and my mother even more. I related to the author in a variety of ways which just made me cry even harder. Selbstverständlich macht sie sich sofort auf den Weg dort hin. Auf dem Hof der Eltern schwelgt sie in vielen Erinnerungen und auch Unausgesprochenes kommt endlich auf den Tisch. ꧁•⊹٭𝙼𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚎 𝙼𝚎𝚒𝚗𝚞𝚗𝚐٭⊹•꧂ Grundsätzlich mochte ich das Buch schon, denn durch den bildhaften und flüssigen Stil war ich quasi mit auf dem Hof von Maria, habe die Landluft gerochen, den leckeren Brotduft aufgesogen und das Leben dort hautnah gespürt. Auch der Wechsel zwischen Gegenwart und Kindheitserinnerungen war für mich gut gemacht, denn oft schwelgt man genau in solchen Situationen in der Vergangenheit und erinnert sich an kuriose Erlebnisse. So ein wenig hatte das Ganze für mich Bullerbü-Vibes. 💕 Was habe ich mich amüsiert über Omas Ritt auf dem Schwein 😅 Die Figuren wirken authentisch und prinzipiell könnte all das auch ganz genauso passiert sein. Aber: Ich weiß gar nicht so recht, was genau, aber es hat mir tatsächlich dennoch etwas gefehlt. Für mich bleiben am Ende viele Fragen offen, denn z.B. weiß ich nicht, wie sich Maria entschieden hat. Zudem war mir die Gegenwart doch recht blass im Gegenzug zu den plastischen Schilderungen aus der Kindheit. Vieles bleibt dennoch ungesagt, das Ende ist mir zu abrupt. Für mich hätte da mehr ausgearbeitet werden können, so bleibt es eindimensional, die Zerrissenheit Marias wenig greifbar. Auf der anderen Seite? Vielleicht ist es genauso gewollt: Der Leser, der etwas ratlos zurückgelassen wird, sich dann jedoch aufgrund der Geschichte die Frage stellt: Was ist wirklich wichtig im Leben? Wobei finde ich mein Glück? 🤷♀️ Vielleicht bringt @freude.amlesen Licht ins Dunkel, denn mit ihr habe ich das Buch gemeinsam gelesen und wir sind noch immer im Austausch 😊 Kennt ihr das Buch?
