This book. 😭💕🌸 @ellenmcginty_author wrote a beautiful and unique and compelling story that had me riveted until the final page. Meera’s journey from self loathing to confidence is especially beautiful. I love the chronic illness rep and the strong sibling relationships, and I was surprised at how much I ended up loving Meera and Soran together. The dragons were at turns awe inspiring and terrifying, and I loved seeing Soran grapple with the reality of becoming human and the many emotions that come with it. The whole premise of Meera literally possessing Soran’s heart was so beautiful. (The line at the end. 😭😭😭) Also, Cass can go die in a hole. (Which is a very conflicting thing for me to say since we sort of share the same name.) One of my favorite parts was when Meera went to Fever House, the healing onsen that is the setting for her story “Soul Threader” in the anthology THE SUN STILL RISES. I was over here squealing like, “I know this place!!!” (If you haven’t read “Soul Threader,” it’s a gorgeous story about a girl whose soul magic is broken after her father’s death, and the blind prince comes to their healing onsen to be healed, but she knows she can’t do it anymore. Bo ja jestem z tych, co czuję trwogę, jak tylko zaczyna grzmieć. 🤣 ✦•┈๑⋅⋯ ⋯⋅๑┈•✦✦•┈๑⋅⋯ ⋯⋅๑┈•✦ Jak tylko Zaksiążkowane poleciły tę historię, miałam na nią szaloną ochotę, nawet jeżeli nie znałam fabuły. Burza była już konceptem w wielu historiach, a tutaj pełni rolę niemal ciemnej materii, która trzyma w oku cyklonu miasto głównej bohaterki, z każdym szkwałem, pożerając coraz większe dzielnice. Ci, którym udało się przetrwać jej szał, na zawsze dotknięci są chorobą klątwy. Już nigdy nie są tacy sami, czy to fizycznie czy psychicznie. Nad wszystkim czuwa Regia - istota, która ma w sobie odpowiednią moc, aby powstrzymać burzę przed całkowitym zniszczeniem miasta. Na jej usługach są zaś oddziały, zwane Wardana - wyszkoleni wojownicy do walki z okrutnym żywiołem. Ale jak wszędzie są równi i równiejsi. Zamożne elity i biedota, która najbardziej narażona jest na katastrofalne skutki Burzy. Gdy pewnego dnia Wardana porywa ojca głównej bohaterki, ta przysięga sobie, że go odzyska. Nawet jeżeli oznacza to konieczność przeniknięcia do wyższych sfer i poznanie samego syna Regii - mrocznego księcia Dalcana. Czytało się naprawdę dobrze. Historia ma świetnych bohaterów i naturalne dialogi. Nic nie było sztuczne. Od początku do końca nieźle się bawiłam. Problemem jest jedynie słabo dopracowany świat. Moim zdaniem kilka kwestii w ogóle nie doczekało się zadowalającego wyjaśnienia. Niemniej... jestem naprawdę usatysfakcjonowana. ✨️ Let’s talk worldbuilding! Lily’s Passage is the first in a trilogy of YA fantasy novels following the same characters. Since the story takes place during a war, I’ve been calling this trilogy “The War of the Valleyear” which is how the conflict comes to be known later in Alderdale’s history. There’s some significance to why the war is so-named, but it’s a relatively obscure detail. However… Though I’m not much for conformity, I realize my original series title isn’t all that flashy. There is another option I’m considering—Anchor & Vessel. This title has quite a bit more worldbuilding significance that won’t be uncovered until the second book. It’s also a little on the mysterious side at first glance, which could be an advantage. ✨Where do you think legends begin, if not from truth?✨ I’m not gonna lie, I was kind of disappointed by this one. I wasn’t a huge fan at first, I even considered DNFing, but luckily the plot definitely picked up in the second half. I struggled because I’d heard that it’s so twisty but I saw every plot twist coming from the very beginning lol. I don’t necessarily mind predictable books, I was expecting more. That said, it was still enjoyable enough. I think it would have been more interesting if she wasn’t friends with Bash beforehand, but obviously then the twist at the end wouldn’t have worked so I ultimately appreciated where it went but I think it would have been more enjoyable if it had all been done differently. Or maybe im just not a fan of friends to lovers romances. 😂 Overall, it was good enough plot and worldbuilding, and interesting enough characters. All the twists at the end were definitely fun (if predictable) and I’m interested to see where the second book goes. Everything was *just* this side of good enough. I think it’s fun to market books from a different angle. Sometimes, as an author, it feels like I’m saying the same thing over and over again. It can become a little redundant 😅 so I thought, “why not” when I had the idea to present my fantasy novel as a contemporary romance. Mostly the tropes lol which it does have. Obviously, it’s not a contemporary romance and will not read as one, but it does have: ✨ forced proximity ✨ fun/flirty banter (enjoy it while it lasts 😤) ✨ enemies to lovers (it does have it I swear) ✨ one bed trope… but not really But it also has a cool world that people have compared to a fairy tale meets The Hunger Games-esque. The exploration of good versus evil, poverty, mercy and grace, being the prodigal and so much more.

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! Sweet Nightmare by Tracy Wolff comes out next Tuesday and thanks to @entangledteen, I was lucky enough to read an early copy! This book follows the students of Calder Academy, a mysterious school for rogue paranormals. We follow Clementine as a storm starts to brew in the island, making it more deadly than ever. While this is technically a spinoff of the Crave series by this author, I would say you can read this on its own. I haven’t read Crave (I own it, I just keep not picking it up) and I still had a good time reading this. With super short chapters, this fast paced book will keep you in the she of your seat. While they are nothing alike as far as the actual story goes, I think if you like Zodiac Academy, you would like this. I think the vibes are similar. I do wish there would have been a little more on page character development, especially for the side characters. I was just really intrigued to learn more about them. Hopefully the rest of the series has more backstory! As I said earlier, Crave is a book I just keep putting off. I know it will be a fun time, but I’m horrible at reading my physical tbr. 🔵 Happy #mapmonday 🔵 Today's map comes to you from the world of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard (specifically, this map is found in King's Cage). And yes this map does indeed look like the United States! It's one of the reasons why I like this map so much, as usually in a fantasy world we are somewhere vaguely English inspired, or at least Western European. You don't often see fantasy worlds set in the United States! (I'm aware that this series is probably a little bit more dystopian than fantasy classified, but it counts lol). This series holds a special place in my heart, and I love the way that this map shows how vast the world is, but also when you read the books how centralized the story is (meaning how little Mare and other Reds like her get experiences to travel). Plus--I'm partial since it appears my hometown is sort of on this map--Pitarus, the capital of the Kingdom of the Rift, and home to House Samos--the Kings of Steel, is definitely a stand in for Pittsburgh, the Steel City, my hometown! I am perpetually at a loss of what to say about how wonderful and supportive you all are. Wisteria is # 1 at barnesandnoble after yesterday’s cover reveal, and with some absolute juggernaut books surrounding it on that list, I can’t pretend that I’m not surprised. Mostly though, I’m just incredibly thankful. For a while, I was thinking that writing this book might not be possible. Trilogies don’t always have the best track record with sales, and because of that my publisher was a little hesitant to buy this book, not knowing whether the readership would be sustained through a third book (I originally sold Belladonna as a standalone but just kept writing more books in the series and handing them to my editor with a hopeful smile, because that is just who I am and I love this world so much.) So when I say that you readers are the sole reason that this book is coming out and why I get to write it, I mean it. Ended up absolutely loving this book. Wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did - perhaps, it's because I used to love The Mortal Instruments, when I was in school a good few years back. This book, series even, is set in a completely different place to TMI series. There was a lot going on, and the description of everything created vivid scenes in my mind. The history geek in me was satisfied. 😅 The only thing I struggle with is the longer chapters. They seemed to be 12-14 page turns / 24-48 pages to read. I'm used to doing probably 6-7 page turns on average before the next chapter starts. But, other than that, I loved this book! What is your current/next read? I’ve finished The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by @ksvilloso (and just WOW on that one!), and I’m starting Unravel the Dusk today! Spin the Dawn was my first Elizabeth Lim novel, and I’m slightly embarrassed by how long it’s taken me to get to the sequel. In part, I can blame my library. The holds on all the Lim books have been lengthy, and I didn’t put this one on hold until I finished Spin the Dawn. But this is magical Asian-centric fantasy at its best. Magical tailoring skills with some forbidden love and treachery thrown in? Absolutely. Plus a quest and the discovery of demon involvement? Also yes. I am so excited to see where @elimpix took the story in the sequel. ✨Map Monday✨ Children of Ragnarok by Cinda Williams Chima YA Fantasy based in Norse mythology. Book 1 of the Runestone Saga. I met the author at the KY Book Festival back in October and definitely bought the book for the cover. I haven’t read it yet but it sounds like a fun read. The second book comes out later this year. Since Ragnarok—the great war between the gods and the forces of chaos—the human realm of the Midlands has become a desperate and dangerous place, bereft of magic. The journeys of three teens converge in a paradise fueled by magic. They soon realize that a great evil lurks beneath the dazzling surface and that old betrayals and long-held grudges may fuel another cataclysmic war.
