THE DETAILS
Among my all time favourite architectural details in Estonian architecture must be the foyer ceiling at Riigikogu, the parliament building of the Estonian Republic. Architects Eugen Habermann, Herbert Johanson, design and construction 1920-1922.
The ceiling is cast in reinforced concrete, and reminiscent of historic cassette ceilings. Each pyramidal opening has a simple light bulb in it.
The ceiling seems more modern than the rest of the building, which stylistically represents Expressionism. A time traveller, ahead of its time.
