"Tiffany house" I named this house (Valli ,4) and usually caught sight of it from the backyard side (📸 - 3), maybe because the main façade (📸 - 1,2) of the building is partly in the shadow of #Musumäe ( #ViruHill ). But let's start from the beginning 😉 At the beginning of the 20th century, the city wall could be seen from both sides of the #HinkeTower ( #HinkeTorn - 📸 - 4). But already in the 1920s Tallinn urban space began to rapidly transform, including due to the wall (photo by Parikas, Johannes and Peeter 1920s 📸 - 5). High (4-5 stories) houses were built in the center of Tallinn, and as we can see today HinkeTorn was densely surrounded by houses (📸 - 6) and it is one of two Tallinn towers where people still live. This tower is built into the building #Wladovskymaja . T. Pooli house is a commercial and residential building designed by architect #AleksanderWladovsky ( #AleksandrVladovski - 📸 - 7, 8). The most spectacular example of luxury architecture in #neoclassicism style but with strong #ArtNouveau elements was completed in 1925. The façade of the first floor and the shop premises have been designed more easily. However, the upper floors, where the apartments were located, are much more decorative in their finish: the figures between the windows, the balcony in the middle of the house, and the penthouses attract attention. The most representative apartment on the top floor is decorated with stucco décor, cassette vaults, garland-framed reliefs, and lint paintings. Characteristic of academism, the facade on the rear side of the building has a much simpler design, which in this context connects it well with the Old Town. References🔖: 1. THE DETAILS Among my all time favourite architectural details in Estonian architecture must be the foyer ceiling at Riigikogu, the parliament building of the Estonian Republic. Architects Eugen Habermann, Herbert Johanson, design and construction 1920-1922. The ceiling is cast in reinforced concrete, and reminiscent of historic cassette ceilings. Each pyramidal opening has a simple light bulb in it. The ceiling seems more modern than the rest of the building, which stylistically represents Expressionism. A time traveller, ahead of its time. Chic and modern interiors of the Kuld Lõvi ("Golden Lion") luxury hotel on Harju Street in Tallinn Old Town. The historic building was completely renovated and modernised from 1934 to 1936 according to the designs of architect Elmar Lohk (1901-1963). Most of the furniture was locally designed and produced. My personal favourite detail must be the sunken lighting fixtures in the main lobby. Sadly, Kuld Lõvi was destroyed in the Soviet Army air raid on 9 March 1944. Estonian History Museum holds a beautiful set of black-and-white photographs of the hotel taken after the mid-30s renovation by the Parikas photographers.
