I couldn't wait to read Matt Ruff's The Destroyer of Worlds, his follow-up to the amazing Lovecraft Country. And.....I've got feelings.
First, it's fantastic to be reunited with all the characters from Lovecraft Country. The Turners, Berrys, and Dandridges are all back having adventures, fighting a-hole racists and power-hungry wizards 👏
Second, the overall story is really good, fast-paced writing.
It just felt like it was written for TV straight out of the gate. The episodic chapters are one or two pages and others slightly longer. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that, but all our heroes and heroines just scratch the surface of who they are and how they're battling through life.
Maybe Ruff is world building for more (hopefully 🤞) books 📚 and I'm just stuck thinking about only getting one season of the show out of HBO 😭
Anyways, it's still a great read for a cozy rainy PNW weekend 🌲🌲🌲
