Is it better to use dumbbells or barbells?<br />Well one isn’t necessarily better than using the other but they do provide different benefits to your workouts. Dumbbells require more stabilization. What is stabilization? In weight training it simply means keeping the weights you’re  moving going in the right direction and along the intended path during the movement. Dumbbells are harder to control since each hand or arm is working independent of each other.  So instead of just the primary muscles performing the exercise other muscles chip in to stabilize.  With dumbbells more muscles are worked overall.  Also with dumbbells the weaker side has to work just as hard and the dominant side can’t power through.  Barbells on the other hand allow each you to focus more on the muscles you are trying to work.  When you have to engage muscles to stabilize the weight less emphasis is placed on the targeted muscles.  With barbells you can use more weight and place more stress on the each muscle or muscle group you want to hit.  So there are benefits to doing both.
