And I also love discovering new bookstores! I had been following @haresandhattersbookshop for sometime after stumbling across their posts about their monthly book boxes a while back. Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to visit them as I am in Kentucky and they are all the way in Idaho. But yesterday felt like I received a VIP ticket to experience their lovely bookstore!!! I entered @haresandhattersbookshop #independentbookstoreday giveaway for a chance to win a personalized #bookbox … and I was the lucky winner!!! The genre I selected was #mystery and the staff was #chefskiss perfection when it came to customer and book concierge service. They wanted to surprise me, but at the same time wanted to make sure they selected a book I had never read and would enjoy. So after exchanging a few DMs, this lovely box traveled from the other side of the States to my front door and I couldn’t be more excited!!! The staff did a perfect job!!! I received a #booksleeve (one can never have enough book sleeves), magnetic bookmarks featuring quotes from some of my favorite authors, a fun way to work through the dreaded #tbrpile by using a #d20 dice (fun fact: I have 2 sets of d20 specifically for when I finish treatment and can focus on my massive #tbr … they must have known 😉), and some lovely treats from @_popcornshop_ in their hometown (it must be near huckleberry season because as it is a huckleberry cookie in the shape of Idaho and a huckleberry caramel). But the best part is the book they selected. I was sent @emilybainmurphy ‘s Enchanted Hill. I had not heard of this book and now I can’t wait to dive in after reading the description. It reminds me of my favorite podcast, @youmustrememberthis , with its setting of 1930s America and its vibes of old Hollywood noir. RinP is bright & airy & full of commissioned bookish art which we love to peruse. Beaverdale is cozy, like visiting your bookish best friend’s house if your bff had an impressive personal library + great taste in books. We did it!!🎉🎉In one week, we visited 28 indie bookstores in Seattle and the surrounding Seattle areas. And it was quite the adventure! Definitely required lots of planning and time but it was so worth it, getting to explore new towns, bookstores, restaurants, and creating memories! 🏠Independent Bookstore Week 2024📚 Anyone who knows me or has followed me here probably already knows how much I love and love to support independent bookstores. I have never read from a device. I read only paper book. I buy them almost solely from indie bookstores. I actually love buying them as much as I love reading them! (Ok, if I’m being honest- maybe more🤦🏻♀️) This week I celebrated 2024 Independent Bookstore Week, in Seattle, FULLY! In 7 days, I visited 29 indie bookstores in and around the Seattle area! All reflect the areas in which they reside and each store is so unique and special in their own way! I drove north, south, east, and west. I took a couple ferry rides. I discovered two new bookstores. I visited a cookbook store, a graphic novel & comic store, a poem Emporium, an anarchist indie store, a Queer bookstore, one that has been opened for just a few weeks, and one that has been opened since the turn of the century. Independent bookstore Week fills my heart. It reminds me of what a special part of the country I live in. As I toured each bookstore, I marveled at how lucky I am to live in an area of the country that truly embraces books and community! Thank you independent bookstore week for getting me out and about so I could fall in love with Seattle all over again. Finally finished the indie bookstore passport today! My last two this weekend were Community Book Center and Octavia Books. (I forgot to take a picture before I turned it in, so I’ve added my own stamps…lol). My prize for turning it in at Octavia Books this morning was a Jane Eyre mug. On Independent Bookstore Day, I supported a local bookstore and bought Untethered Sky by Fonda Lee and two blind date books! The blind date books were only $3, and I'm really excited about them, but when I opened them, I was surprised that they were ARCs. After some googling it seems like it is legal to sell them, but it still threw me off a bit since the covers say "not for sale" on them. $3 seems like a nominal fee, maybe the cost of wrapping and handwriting a description? Is this weird to you? I've never encountered this! Just to be clear, I'm still so happy to have these books!
When I was working towards publication, I didn't think much about the community I'd find. Sure, I figured friends and family would care and buy a copy. But strangers? I wasn't sure. I hoped, but nothing's ever for certain. Since The Jinn Daughter released, I've found more and more readers who support me and my story. There's so much community here, and I'm glad I get to find it.

No, probably not. 😂 Here are the goodies I walked away with! 😍 I stayed under budget, but only found two of the five books I was hoping for. Still, I count it as a success. I've read it, and loved it enough I wanted to have it on my shelves. (Other than This Could Be Us, this is the only romance book I own). This place was AWESOME! @theunderstudychi is a place for coffee books and people to just be chat or work. The coffee was amazing! The selection of books intriguing and the staff was so nice they even got my name right. P.S. the bathroom had feminine care for free to be used at the customers discretion. #independentbookstoreday

Third Place Books It was so fun to go on tiny adventures after work (even though we had to do some illegal driving to make it to stores on time🫣)! Also very proud because we’ve now been to 24 stores and have only bought nine books💪🫡
Today is Independent Bookstore Day, a one a one-day celebration on the last Saturday of April, hosted by independent booksellers for their readers and customers. In the Seattle area, this means that the Bookstore Day Passport Challenge is underway, encouraging folks to visit all of the independent booksellers in this area. @thirdplacebooks provides all of the books for the Literary Lions Gala, donating 20% of the sales to the KCLS Foundation in support of our library programs.
