A superb day was spent with the creative methodologies workshop group @artshubgallery in #Taunton. We explored the sounds and sights of the outdoors. After a short presentation about the practice of #joanmitchell #helenfrankenthaler and #leekrasner, through various prompts and listening with our eyes closed for 2 mins and then looking and seeing the world around us for 3 minutes in three areas, the group wrote down words associated with what they could hear and see, to use as prompts to create their paintings and bring about an emotional response to the memories they were experiencing in relation to the task and words they had written earlier outside. Some very interesting memories came to mind through these mindful exercises. On view at the gallery: Untitled (c. 1943-44) by Jackson Pollock. This work is related to a group of early screenprints found by the MoMA among possessions of the artist’s wife, Lee Krasner, upon her death in 1984. They were neither documented nor shown anywhere publicly until 1995, and, as such, they represent “newly discovered” works. Pollock began working on this unique proof in 1943, intending it be used as a Greeting Card for the year 1944. In 1943, Pollock worked briefly at a silkscreen workshop and even acquired his own printing screen to use at home. An important year for the artist, 1943 also marks the year Pollock met Peggy Guggenheim, whose patronage initiated one of the most productive and prolific periods in Pollock’s career.

Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center - 5.4.2024 Visited the home and studios of Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner yesterday. Pictured (1-3) are the uncovered, originally paint-splattered floorboards of Pollock's workspace, juxtaposed with the spray arcs of Krasner's working area along the walls of the same room. Also admired an early Pollock (4), which was given to a friend and then donated back to the estate, and various decor collected by the duo throughout their lives, including: a nephew's eclectic fountain (5) and a found broken anchor (5). It was surreal and fascinating to learn about their time here and explore the spaces: it felt like walking along a palimpsest, imagining Pollock and Krasner creating art here, enjoying the same outdoor scenery (8) and going about their lives many years ago... also visited their final resting places (9, 10). No photos are allowed of the art exhibited in the galleries -- actually no indoor photos of any kind are allowed -- but there are staff experts in every room ready to answer any questions you may have. #OnView | Hutchinson Contemporary in New York, New York presents a solo exhibition of works by Raquel Rabinovich, a #PKFGrantee and #LeeKrasnerAward recipient. “Avatars” consists of Rabinovich’s recent drawings and paintings that explore the dark through a lens of knowledge and wisdom, not negativity and absence. Rabinovich has described this practice as “exploring what was behind appearance, the things we don’t usually see.” “That was, to me, a wonderful world I wanted to get into. In a way, I associated that which is hidden and concealed with ‘a dark place’… If you go deep into the dark, where apparently you’re not able to see, you can see everything. It’s not that it’s invisible; you have to bring it out into the light to see the light within it,” said Rabinovitch.
