What did you like about the Giorgio Morandi and Lee Ufan’s dialogue has been exhibited by Maggiore gam in 2017? Following some of the reasons of the dialogue: 1. Morandi and Ufan share surprising affinities in their views of painting and in the fundamentals of their conceptions of art. 2. Giorgio Morandi’s works can be read as arrangement of pure and near abstract forms because of the artist’s focus on colors, tones and shapes relationships, going beyond a mere figurative representation of what you see. He proved an exclusive ability to distill the essence of a complex scene or composition with a limited color palette and creating a lyrical atmosphere of suspension of time and space. 3. Lee Ufan is a painter, a sculptor, writer and philosopher. In his iconic works where a brush stroke leaves its poetic mark on the canvas, the relationship between painted /unpainted and occupied / empty space lies at the heart of Lee Ufan’s practice, as well as it is evident in Morandi above all in his works on paper. Restricting his palette to a single color on a white ground, Ufan creates contemplative works in iterative series. 4. Painting was a ritual experience for Morandi: each of his pictures has a certain quality of light that suggests it was painted at a particular time of day or under specific lighting conditions. Even in Ufan painting is a ritual practice: «it seems very simple, but I start to work on it at 9 o’ clock in the morning and I carry on until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. And not only for one day; I reaper the same project for three, four, five times. La philosophie de l’œuvre, adaptée au site, visait à montrer, comme le dit Ufan, le monde « tel qu’il est ». Ufan est né en Corée, mais a donné vie au mouvement artistique Mono-ha au Japon. Au-delà de la sculpture et de la peinture, il a contribué à un corpus toujours important d’écrits philosophiques sur l’art. Et lorsque Mono-ha rencontra l’adversité – le nom même du mouvement vient des critiques qui cherchaient à minimiser son intégrité en le qualifiant d’« École des choses » – Oufan défendit la nécessité de l’avant-garde. De six plaques d’acier à sept gros rochers, les matériaux d’Ufan sont à la fois courants et inattendus. Il y a une sensation de précarité que l’on éprouve lorsqu’on regarde. Les œuvres « rassemblent ses intérêts pour les matériaux naturels et industriels ; relations spatiales contingentes et sensibles au site ; et des actes de suspense », nous explique Alexis Lowry, commissaire associé de Dia. « M. Lee a cité les cinq œuvres de cette présentation afin que chacune ait son propre espace. Il a passé du temps dans les galeries avant et pendant l’installation, observant leurs paramètres physiques et architecturaux. Chaque installation a été adaptée à son nouveau site d’exposition en conséquence. L’installation a nécessité beaucoup de main d’œuvre. Pour « Relatum (Iron Field) », les 20 000 tiges d’acier « sont chacune coupées et pliées à la main selon les instructions de M. Lee. Ils sont ensuite insérés verticalement dans un champ de sable. Bien sûr, l’ampleur de cette installation impressionne, mais le travail contrasté avec les pairs américains et européens d’Oufan, trouvé dans les salles voisines de cette institution exemplaire, l’est également. Avec les œuvres de Walter de Maria au coin de la rue et celles de Donald Judd à proximité, une étude académique se déroule. Et c’est un jeu assez facile à apprécier ou à rendre perplexe.

#WEEDI #우리집도갤러리처럼 ➰ 피카소 가라사대, “예술은 일상의 먼지를 씻어낸다.” 아가씨 시절엔 전시회나 콘서트에 가면 꼭 굿즈로 판매하는 포스터나 엽서를 사서 액자에 꽂아두길 좋아했어요. 하지만 결혼하면서 소위 ‘미니멀리즘’에 꽂혀 소장하던 대부분의 포스터들을 중고로 처분하였죠. 그렇게 신혼집의 텅 빈 하얀 벽이야말로 여백의 아름다움! 이라 여기며 수년을 지내왔는데, 이번에 이사를 하면서 생각이 좀 달라졌어요. ‘우리 가족의 감성과 취향, 정체성을 드러내는 그림을 가지고 싶다!’ 미적으로 좋은 환경에서 생활하면 자연스럽게 기분이 달라지고 부드러운 대화도 끌어내죠. 근사한 그림이 있는 집, 그 공간에서 보내는 시간이 우리 가족에게 분명 좋은 영향을 주지 않을까요? ➰ 우리 집에 대가를 모시는 방법 이우환(@leeufanarles) 작가는 좋아한 지 10년 가까이 된 것 같아요. 우연히 잡지를 통해 접하며 개인 블로그에 스크랩했던 게 시작이었죠. 그러다 2019년에서야 부산시립미술관 이우환 공간을 찾게 되었는데, 호감의 점이 사랑의 선으로 끝없이 이어지는 느낌이 들었어요! (그의 대표작 ‘from point’와 ‘from line‘에 빗대어보았어요) 이우환 작가님의 그림을 소장하고픈 꿈은 이루기 쉽지 않아요. 원화는 말할 것도 없고, 서명과 에디션 번호가 들어간 판화도 선뜻 구매하기엔 무서운 금액이기 때문이죠. 결국 긴 고민 끝에 복제 판화 중에서 고품질 실크 패브릭 액자로 완성된 것을 구매했어요. 우리 집 거실이 사색과 대화로 가득하길 바라며 ’Dialogue‘라는 타이틀의 작품을 2개의 연작으로요. ➰ 우리를 닮은 사랑스러운 곰돌이 가족 현관에서 이어지는 복도에 둘 밝은 기운의 작품을 찾는 과정에서 원화 구매를 처음 해보았어요. 김펄(oilepearl) 작가의 ’곰‘이라는 작품이에요. 사랑스러운 세 마리의 곰을 보자마자 ’딱 우리 가족이잖아!‘라며 행복한 비명을 질렀답니다. 배송받아서 아이에게 보여주니 아빠 곰의 갈색 털과 엄마 곰의 분홍 털을 반반씩 닮은 아기곰을 가리키며 “룩이!”라고 자기 이름을 외쳤어요. 사실 물건이 밖에 나와 있는 걸 싫어해서 항상 깔끔한 우리 집이지만, 때로는 가꿔지지 않은 듯한 허전함이 마음에 걸렸어요. 특히 복도의 흰 벽은 볼 때마다 차가운 느낌이 들었는데 작은 사이즈의 캔버스인데도 곰 가족이 따뜻한 존재감을 뽐내주니 고마울 뿐이에요. ➰ 둥근 이야기가 담긴 네모 액자 추억과 이야기가 있는 그림이라면 또 다른 의미가 있겠죠. 콜라주 아트를 하는 친구 논센소(@nonsen.so)작가가 출산 선물로 준 작업물은 그녀가 전시와 판매를 하기도 전에 제가 먼저 소유한 작품이라는 데서 더 고마움을 느꼈어요. 서재 벽에 걸어둔 미묘하고 신비한 흑백 콜라주를 볼 때마다 만삭의 몸으로 만났던 그 겨울날의 온기와 친구의 미소가 떠올라 행복해져요. 아이 옷장 위에 둔 그림은 오래전 친동생과 함께 찾았던 피렌체의 우피치 미술관에서 구매한 아트포스터에요. 수많은 걸작 사이에서 유독 눈에 들어왔던 피오렌티노 로소의 ‘Music Angel’. 고사리손으로 능숙하게 악기를 연주하는 아기 천사의 얼굴과 붉은 날개라니… 이 포스터는 자취방에 이어 이젠 우리 집 아기 천사의 방에서 함께 지내고 있어요. 단순한 프레임의 액자에 그대로 보관 중인데, 시간 내어 제대로 된 액자로 생명을 불어넣어 줘야겠어요. ➰ 미술에 대해 잘 알지는 못하지만, ‘심미안’에 대해 자주 생각하게 돼요. 남들이 알아주는 안목에 대한 욕심이 아니라, 아름다운 것들을 놓치지 않고 자주 들여다보는 여유를 갖고 싶어서예요. 뛰어난 미적 감각도 없고 요즘 떠오른다는 아트테크에 투자할 주머니 사정도 아님에도, 내가 가장 오래 머무는 공간인 ‘집’에 미술품을 두려는 시도를 해보았어요. 아직은 참 어설프죠? 액자 레일은 거슬리고, 못질로 고정하는 것은 또 망설여져 우두커니 세워둔 것들이 대부분이지만 집의 공기가 달라짐을 느끼고 있어요. 〰️ 위키들은 어떤 아름다움과 함께 살고 계시나요? 𝕨𝕖 𝕒𝕣𝕖 𝕖𝕟𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙 글•사진 WEEDI신윤 @see.new.knit 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶 𝟳𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 • 5월 17일(금) ~ 5월 24일(금) • 프로필 링크를 통해 프로그램 상세 내용을 확인해 주세요 #weemagazine #weedi신윤 #위매거진 #원화구매 #그림인테리어 #르빠삐에르샵 #아르떼제이 #leeufan #kimpearl #nonsenso

Deconstructed guitars on the floor, sculpture-like felt fabrics with cords on the walls, this entire room was a sound installation with each piece giving a different note or singing voice when peopled touched them. I really enjoy and seek multi-sensory art pieces, because in my experience, they evoke deeper reactions in us and move us differently. These brought out my child-like wonder: seeing something interesting, little afraid to try it, but then I do, and then I want to explore it more and more, mess around with it, no pressure, no consequences, just pure, free playfulness. And there’s another layer to it - I am interacting with the art piece, while others around the room do too, and we are all silently creating sounds together, sometimes clashing, sometimes harmonizing with one another. I like places that when I leave, I feel richer than before going in, and exhibitions are really one of those places.
