This morning before sunrise, I had a swim in Brighton. All alone I was on this pebbley beach. There was a difference, you know, walking to and fro the water on this pebbley beach. There was this pain that started to grow once I removed my running shoes. I was moving slow yet the pain it did screech with every movement on this pebbley beach. Having made the 10 yards or so, I waste deep when I dived into the morning glow. My lungs they did beseech another breath as I drifted from this pebbly beach. A seagull flew in low, the winner of the left over pizza, was it escape or was it show I'll never know. And as I left my floating bliss, the pain it didn't miss, screeching as it did before as I wandered, stagered, grimaced a swore all the way up this pebbley beach. Skewed Shadows . . . . . It's been a little while since my last post and as such I wanted this to be one of my favs. I took this up in Cambridge a couple months ago while walking through the insane Trinity court. This piece was originally landscape with the right half looking down the corridor. However, I decided to cut that away as I wanted to highlight the light coming through the doorway. The orange tone past the entrance makes this whole piece feel incredibly summery. I finished this image by adjusting certain portions. In Your Footsteps Acrylic on canvas 45x60cm This piece is the first in a series named ‘Through The Echoes’ inspired my Grandpa’s incredible life and his self-published poetry ♥️ My Grandpa was the ultimate creative. Whether it was ballet at the bus stop, drawing, music, writing, photography, or just entertaining us with handstands in the garden, he loved to put his completely unique imagination to work. He always made sure we understood the importance of culture and the arts, and whenever we gifted him our childhood drawings he always made sure we named, signed and dated them- he had little professional artists in training from day one! So this is ‘In Your Footsteps’ by Lalionne, 2024. A nod to all the beautiful lessons, mannerisms, ways of life and stories I’ve inherited from this wonderful man. The ways in which we’re similar, and the way, like him, I am completely unique. . . .
'Rapture’ works in inspirational and evocative spaces, collaborating with superb people with audiences of all ages and backgrounds together. Creating new ways to experience art and having bloody good times. But its bloody hard work and we just getting round to posting these wonderful photos by great friend @alban_roinard. The incredible Moroccan food by @brightonbakes was an an artwork in itself, Superb people to work with , the team at @fabricagallery are superb people , supporting our residency there and this gathering on night before Good Friday. Would you like to come and see me and my underwater photography? I’ll be at ‘The ARKA House’ all weekend showing my work as part of the Brighton Artists Open Houses. . We’re open today (Saturday) and Sunday from 10am-5pm. Please come by and say hi. I’ve got a large amount of my framed artworks on display plus we are showing work from 6 other talented Brighton artists including painting, stone carvings, textile art and photo wood prints. . I sent out a very special offer on my framed photographs to my newsletter mailing list last week but if you missed it then send me a DM and I’ll add you on to my list. Some of the prints that I am showing are in frames that I no longer stock so I’m having a bit of a studio sale. This means that if you buy a certain piece of my art then you’ll receive the frame free of charge. These are bespoke made frames, and a lot of them have uv protective ‘art glass’ in them. You might need to be quick though because after one weekend of the open house being open, I have already sold quite a few. 🥳 . Allow me to tell you a little story… About a decade and a half ago, I discovered the work of an artist from Devon and instantly fell in love with her incredible expressive and romantic use of colour, texture, glitter, her love of flowers and nature and her dreamy style. I commissioned a painting shortly after, which has hung above my bed and occupied pride of place for as long as my kids can remember. It has featured in many an IG post over the years and been greatly admired, I even tried to emulate it during the ‘arts & crafts’ years with the boys, my rather embarrassing tribute hangs in the downstairs loo still. To this day, it transports me to a better place (Yvonne’s painting not the tribute or the loo) & when I look at it, I never fail to smile. We’ve loosely kept in touch over the years, followed one another and occasionally I’ve defended her against the not infrequent but inevitable ‘reproductions’ (bar my own of course!!). I always thought how I’d love one of her newer seascapes but especially over the last year and a bit, that seemed a pipe dream. Imagine my absolute shock and delight (I WAS BLOWN AWAY) when @yvonnecoomber reached out after seeing some recent stories about my life and struggles and felt, as a former single parent herself in similar circumstances, that she wanted to do something lovely to bring me some joy and send me a painting. More than a tear was shed I can tell you, but it was just so typical of this incredibly kind, generous soul I am so grateful to call my friend. Thank you Yvonne for bringing such joy to my heart. I will look at this beautiful piece of art and remember what kindness exists in the world still. I just need to find a wall worthy now.
