As the nights draw in and the sun fades into milky grey skies, I find myself mourning the loss of what felt like an endless summer. The earth reclaims the once protruding buds of life back into its quiet, rich soils. It's a melancholic yet beautiful transition, and it's this fleeting moment that inspired ‘Double Loch’. . Part of my series titled ‘Memory’, Double Loch is a painting inspired by a hidden gem nestled up in the Outer Hebrides. Surrounded by towering hills and boggy terrain, these peated, freshwater lochs hold a special place in my heart. I've had the privilege of swimming in their cool waters a few times, and they're particularly magical during the winter months when the sun hangs low, and the grassy fells soften the light. . In the painting, I try to capture the essence of this quiet beauty. The sky is a muted grey, the last remnants of daylight casting a soft glow over the landscape. The double lochs shimmer like gemstones, reflecting the sombre hues of the changing season. It's a scene filled with nostalgia and longing, a reminder of the passage of time and the cyclical nature of life. .
