Leeward marks: Ok - so there are a few things going on, but what do we really need to know in order to get round, fast and without breaking any rules.... If you use either 'gybe-drop' layline into the gates you will most likely be inside boat and have right of way is the majority of casis. BUT you will need to get good at your gybe drops. Youth Worlds Poland 2019 After a week of both light and heavy winds and a lot of great racing with 28 different nations competing, the 29er fleet managed to get all 13 races in. After some very close racing, Team GBR 29ers Freya Black/Millie Aldridge finished 5th overall, and Ewan Wilson/Fin Armstrong finished 4th overall. Congratulations to both boats! Well done, Team GBR! Both boats came back from a couple of setbacks to post excellent results right up to and including the last race, demonstrating great resilience, determination and sportsmanship. They represented the 29er Class and Team GBR brilliantly and we are very proud of their achievements. Well done, Freya, Millie, Ewan and Fin! Hopefully, along the way, they remembered to enjoy what seems to have been a brilliant event both on & off the water. After all as a Class, our main aim is to ensure our sailors have a blast on the water regardless of the ups and downs of the scoreboard. But with a 0500 flight tomorrow morning, we’re also hoping our GBR representatives in Poland don’t rock the after-party tonight too much! We also want to say thank you to the RYA coaches who have supported our 29er teams so well this week. Thank you! Controversial advice from Class Coach Niall - sail other boats. Take the 420 - a boat that typically goes slower than waves downwind. The only way to catch a wave is by using trim (fwd/aft) and steering. It’s rare for good-sized waves to be just faster than a 29er but it can happen. This way of rocking the boat fwd down the wave will get you surfing and riding low in these rare conditions.
