We wouldn’t recommend hitting Scandinavian rocks, but many owners have. So we like to make sure our keel structure is strong. The design of the keel is important but the way they are attached is just as important, if not more so. All of our fixed keels are through-bolted. Every keel has a wide flange at the root (top) of the keel and the flange sits into a reinforced recess in the hull. The flange and the recess work together to spread the loads of the keel/s into the yacht’s hull. The keels are bonded and bolted to the hull. Quick job completed the weekend on a beautiful sailing boat. A couple of cable tensioners seized up while in dry dock over the winter so called down and managed to unseize them without any damage using a nut cracker to remove the nut, cleaned and lubed the threads then had a new nuts fitted.
