Eine Untermarke von @yachticon aus Norderstedt. 🫱🏻🫲🏼 Die erste Schicht Epoxy Primer ist heute lackiert worden. Morgen müssen dann alle feinen Poren mit dem Epoxy Spachtel verfüllt werden und dann können nach anschleifen und reinigen die anderen Schichten Epoxy Primer aufgetragen werden. Empfohlen sind mindestens 5 Schichten für einen ausreichenden Osmoseschutz. Jede Schicht hat bei optimalen Bedingungen mindestens 4 Stunden Trockenzeit. Som en del i Franska Polynesien ingår man i de sk ”översjöiska förvaltningsområdena” till skillnad från de franska öarna i Karibien som ses som en dal av Frankrike. Franska Polynesien styrs från Tahiti och har sin egen valuta. Man tillhör inte Eu men medborgarna får rösta i Frankrike och EU. Marquesasöarna har lyckats behålla mycket av sitt språk och sin kultur, men majoriteten av invånarna är kristna och alla talar franska. We are just a few weeks away from putting a wrap on this season. We were stopped in our sailing tracks in mid Feb, which we’ll document in detail over on our YouTube channel. 🔹 This unfortunate turn of events has been a bummer, but ultimately it means we’re doing a few projects that are setting us up for some BIG sailing ahead. Stay tuned! 🔹 In the meantime, we took a break from boat work and had an excursion into the Romantic zone in Puerto Vallarta last night. We went to Casa Kimberly for a drink. 🔹 This is the house (now a boutique hotel) that Richard Burton bought for Elizabeth Taylor. We spent the night at Dominica (still a little hazy from the Saharan dust), and then spent another full day sailing to Martinique. Since we’ve been sailing for several days in a row, we decided to stop and take a break for a couple days. We anchored right in front of Fort Saint-Louis, which is an active French naval base. Finnley is loving all of the French bakeries here - lots of fresh baguettes and other goodies! 55.7m (182’) Galileo and 56m (183’) Caoz 14. A Picchiotti and a Perini Navi - not quite sisters but perhaps cousins. I really like all of the Picchiottis from this era. I seem to recall an interview from a few years ago which explained that the Picchiottis were designed to have the classic Perini sailing hull, with the very low superstructure and striking sheerline, and that gives them this slightly retro vibe which I really enjoy. Now that Picchiotti is part of The Italian Sea Group family, I think that look is being revived with the Gentleman line - the first unit in that series will launch this year, so we’ll have a chance to take a look then 🎩 Galileo has a Vitruvius hull made of reinforced steel that’s about 20% thicker than a standard motor yacht. She can cruise in areas of ice around 40cm thick and she’s also equipped with sonar that can detect huge ice clumps from over a kilometre away. This week, Galileo’s explorer capacities got a shoutout on the podcast as well, as part of a Stewart tangent about the Northwest passage and the rising number of yachts undertaking this ambitious voyage.
