Fresh air much needed✌🏿 Creating public space micro parks for 🇭🇰 is exciting and I ❤️ vibrancy; yet, still not an easy journey (lots of smiles and ALOT of frowns and stressful moments); especially with the ongoing post-occupancy trial and errors, harsh HK weathering challenges to regulatory protocols, to behavioral and material Limits-on the launched pilot parks since last year. We are still troubleshooting; however, when you stumble upon a small surprise, I sincerely hope 🤞 due to certain collective city efforts (to our teams’ subtle influence impacting new projects and on going momentum) you do feel hard work pays off…sincerely humbling. #CoBoSocialDesign — @DesignTrust debuts the first of its four micro-parks, Yi Pei Square Playground, in the densely populated residential area in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong this spring. Curated and conceptualised by @MarisaYiu, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Design Trust, and designed by a team of architects and designers: @stephenip, @christopher_faa, @jmaklong and @kaychanwanki—the playground makes for a perfect space for nearby residents and the public to relax and enjoy leisure time amid the hustle and bustle. The project is part of the programme “PLAY IS FOR THE PEOPLE” under the Design Trust Futures Studio initiative, in which three other micro-parks in the Yau Tsim Mong and Central and Western districts will be implanted in the coming years. #DTFS COME SAY HELLO TO YOUR FUTURE MICRO-PARKS! We’re very happy to announce the opening of DESIGN TRUST Pop-Up Home Studio. Currently housing a series of scaled models, prototyped furniture and documentation of the design process of all four soon-to-be-realised #DTFS pilot programme micro-parks concept designs, the studio invites the public to actively engage in and envision the future of Hong Kong’s public spaces in general. The conceptual park designs aim to bring about new discussions on how future public spaces are utilised, how collaborative design plays a part in urban planning and how innovation can co-exist with tradition to open up new possibilities for shared spaces. At the moment, Yi Pei Square Playground and Portland Street Rest Garden locations’ construction works are underway. Check back with us soon for more updates on the parks, or visit our pop-up studio this weekend to see for yourself how their designs were conceived.
