I visited the Wallace Collection museum which has some of the looted Asante artefacts by British troops during the Sargrenti war expedition. This museum actually houses the priceless of them all, King Kofi Karikaris golden head piece, seen here in the video. They returned a few of the artefacts during the anniversary but never added this one, nor the sword and rings and knife and staff regalia, I’m not surprised! This head peace is one of the largest and most historical full golden artefact taken out of Africa except ones from Egypt and it’s not me saying it, it’s written on the note. We don’t have the access or knowledge of our forefathers ingenuity because it’s in the hands of our colonisers; they’ve hidden or boxed it in their rich enclaves so even their commoners have no knowledge of it let alone descendants of whom the stuff was stolen from. Today as an Asante, I stood there with mixed feelings, happy to know it’s been preserved for so long, but unhappy it’s not where it belong. #war #sargrentiwar #Ashanti #British #angloashantiwars #Africa #artefacts #gold #Britishempire #Ashantiempire #ashantikingdom #Ghana @ashanti_kingdom @antique

THE CHIEF is ready for his close-up. These stunning portraits capture some of the beautiful ceremonial elements of the Ashanti - a historic empire and cultural group which are concentrated in present-day Ghana, but Ashantis can also be found in neighbouring Togo and Côte d’Ivoire, and across the diaspora. Ashanti ceremonial clothing incorporates kente cloth, a traditional West African fabric, woven in strips and sewn together. This kente cloth features a number of ‘Adinkra’ symbols (created by the Bono kingdom), which represent concepts or aphorisms. The symbols have a decorative function but also represent objects that encapsulate evocative messages conveying traditional wisdom, aspects of life, or the environment. You can also see Adinkra symbols in his crown, and jewellery. The capital and spiritual home of the Ashanti people is Kumasi, in Ghana’s…Ashanti Region! 📍: #Ghana🇬🇭, West Africa 📸: @studio_chellah

Believe what you want, but these are no coincidence! There are things that aren't being shown and put together... Things that just don't make sense but in ways are speaking to US! Why does the Oyoko clan of the Ashanti empire have the falcon/hawk as their traditional symbol just like ancient Egyptians did? This Redtailed hawk killed a Pigeon in my backyard in 2021, and ever since then it has been visiting my house on certain occasion like when someone close to us passed away in July, and on her daughter's birthday which is when Jamaica has their Independence day. This hawk truly carries totemic energy in our ancestral Clans! We have history BEYOND SLAVERY to truly be proud of that hasn't been forgotten... But is BEING RESTORED! ☥✨☥

I've had this Giza Pyramids Virtual Challenge for about a year now... And Just a few months ago after my awakening, it was no coincidence that Sobek was on the back of this medal. Crocodiles have always been a form of worship throughout Afrika such as Kemet/Egypt, Nubia/Khanit and even in the west like the Akan people in Ghana C. suchus/West African crocodiles were very prevalent in Egypt along the Nile and even kept as pets and/or mummified in sacred tombs(Page 2) Fun fact: The Owl from Drake's label is also the same one used in spelling KMT(Kemet) meaning Land of the Black (Page 3) We are, the children of the sun!

• • • #Yaaasantewa #Yaananaasantewa #ashanti #ashantiempire #ghana #ghana🇬🇭 #noël #christmas #calendrierdelavent #calendrierdelavent2023 #adventcalendar #similo #gigamic #horribleguild #jeudecartes #afrique #africa #femmes #women #womenofafrica #histoire #history #africanhistory #fabercastell #fabercastellpolychromos #aquarelle #watercolour #watercolor #watercolorpainting #traditionalart

#BlackHistoryMonth2023 28/10/23. Yaa Asantewaa. Asante warrior. Yaa Asantewaa was born 17 October 1840 – 17 October 1921 was the queen mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire – now part of modern-day Ghana, appointed by her brother Nana Akwasi Afrane Opese, the Edwesuhene/ruler of Edwesu. In 1900 she led the Ashanti war known as the War of the Golden Stool, which was against British colonists. During her brother’s reign, Yaa Asantewaa saw the Ashanti Confederacy go through a series of events that threatened its future, including civil war from 1883 to 1888. Yaa Asantewaa was chosen by a number of regional Asante kings to be the war-leader of the Asante fighting force. This is the first and only example for a woman to be given that role in Asante’s history. She led the Ashanti rebellion against British colonial rule in defense of the Ashanti's sovereignty and traditions. Her leadership and rallying of the Ashanti people in the resistance against the British were significant in the early 20th century. The conflict arose when the British sought to take over the Ashanti territories and the Ashanti people's Golden Stool, a symbol of their unity and power. Yaa Asantewaa's leadership and bravery inspired many and became a symbol of resistance against colonialism in Africa During the fighting, Queen Yaa Asantewaa and fifteen of her closest advisers were captured, and they, too, were sent into exile to Seychelles. #GLOBALGAINSGROUP 🌍📈 #GoldCoastHistory, #AshantiEmpire, #ColonialGhana, #IndependenceDayGhana, #GhanaCivilization, #GhanaianHistory, #GhanaColonialEra, #GhanaHistoricalSites, #GhanaTraditions, #GhanaianHeritage #Blackhistory

Today, we're venturing into the heart of West Africa, to explore the magnificence of the Ashanti Empire, a civilization that stood strong from the 1670s to 1900s, leaving a lasting legacy on Ghanaian culture and beyond.🌍🇬🇭 The Ashanti were globally acclaimed for their vibrant kente cloth, a silk and cotton fabric woven from interlaced strips. Each pattern and color symbolized different social statuses, moods, and occasions, reflecting the Ashanti's deep-rooted respect for symbolism and communication.🎨👑 One of the most unique aspects of the Ashanti culture was their 'asipim' stools. Carved from a single block of wood, these stools were considered sacred, believed to house the owner's soul. They were so essential that each person had their own 'asipim' stool that was used from childhood to adulthood, signifying their journey through life.🪑✨ Politically, the Ashanti Empire was a centralized state, with the Asantehene at its helm. The Asantehene held both spiritual and political power, ruling with a council of elders and chiefs. This structured hierarchy and the empire's complex legal and bureaucratic systems were a testament to the Ashanti's administrative prowess.🏛️👨‍⚖️ The empire's military strength was another force to be reckoned with. The Ashanti maintained a powerful army, using their strategic location and alliances to control trade routes and resources, including the coveted gold mines of West Africa.⚔️💰 Swipe right to delve deeper into the fascinating world of the Ashanti Empire.👉 #AshantiEmpire #AfricanHistory #KenteCloth #Asipim #Asantehene #Ghana #WestAfrica #MilitaryHistory #CulturalHeritage #africanart #blackart #explorepage

A powerful West African kingdom, the Ashanti Empire ruled over much of the "Gold Coast" in the 18th and 19th centuries. Though they were mostly known for their vast deposits of gold, they were also known for their involvement in the slave trade — and human sacrifice. One English explorer who visited the Ashanti Empire in the early 1800s described a grisly scene of a man being sacrificed: "A knife was passed through his cheeks, to which his lips were noosed like the figure of 8; one ear was cut off and carried before him, the other hung to his head by a small bit of skin; there were several gashes in his back, and a knife was thrust under each shoulder blade." The British would later use scenes like this as a pretext to annex the territories held by the Ashanti. But the Ashanti people refused to give up their land — and fought back against British colonization in a series of bloody wars. Learn more about the little-known history of the Ashanti Empire by clicking the link in our profile. #ashanti #africanhistory #unknownhistory #ashantiempire #worldhistory

Yaa Asantewaa I (born October 17, 1840 – October 17, 1921) was the Queen Mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire, now part of modern-day Ghana. She was appointed by her brother Nana Akwasi Afrane Opese, the Edwesuhene, or ruler, of Edwesu. In 1900, she led the Ashanti war also known as the War of the Golden Stool, or the Yaa Asantewaa War of Independence, against the British Empire. Yaa Asantewaa was born in 1840 in Besease, the daughter of Kwaku Ampoma and Ata Po. Her brother, Afrane Panin, became the chief of Edweso, a nearby community. After a childhood without incident, she cultivated crops on the land around Boankra. She entered a polygamous marriage with a man from Kumasi, with whom she had a daughter. She died in exile in the Seychelles in 1921. She was a successful farmer and mother. She was an intellectual, a politician, a human rights activist, a queen and a war leader. Yaa Asantewaa became famous for commanding the Ashanti Kings in the War of the Golden Stool, against British colonial rule, to defend and protect the sovereign independence of the Golden Stool. “How can a proud and brave people like the Asante sit back and look while white men took away their king and chiefs, and humiliated them with a demand for the Golden Stool. The Golden Stool only means money to the whitemen; they have searched and dug everywhere for it. I shall not pay one predwan to the governor. If you, the chiefs of Asante, are going to behave like cowards and not fight, you should exchange your loincloths for my undergarments (Montu mo danta mma me na monnye me tam).” Nana Yaa Asantewaa understood the ramifications of British colonial rule. She is seen by Ghanaians today as a queen mother who exercised her political and social clout to help defend her kingdom. The role she played in influencing the Ashanti men to battle the British appears to be a function of her matriarchal status. Nana Yaa Asantewaa's call upon the women of the Asante Empire is based on the political obligations of Akan women and their respective roles in legislative and judicial processes. #africanhistory #ghana #ashantiempire #yaaasantewaa #history #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth #africa

Asantehene (King) Prempeh I's original throne name was Prince Kwaku Dua III Asamu of the Kingdom of Ashanti. Prempeh I's mother, Asantehemaa (Queenmother) Yaa Akyaa, was queen mother of the Kingdom of Ashanti from 1880 to 1917. Through strategic political marriages she built the military power to secure the Golden Stool for her son Prince Prempeh. In 1888, Prince Prempeh ascended to throne assumed the throne name Kwaku Dua III as King Asantehene Prempeh I of the Kingdom of Ashanti. He began defending the Kingdom from Britain and when he was asked by Britain to accept a protectorate over his state Kingdom of Ashanti, King Asantehene Prempeh I rejected it and stated “My Kingdom of Ashanti will never commit itself to any such policy of protection; Ashanti people and the Kingdom of Ashanti must remain an independent sovereign state as of old, and at the same time be friends with all white men“. King Asantehene Prempeh I began an active campaign of the Asante sovereignty. The British offered to take the Kingdom of Ashanti under their protection, but the King refused each request. In December 1895, the British left Cape Coast with an expeditionary force. It arrived in Kumasi in January 1896 under the command of Robert Baden-Powell. The Asantehene directed the Ashanti to not resist, as he feared a genocide. Shortly thereafter, Governor William Maxwell arrived in Kumasi. Britain annexed the territories of the Ashanti and the Fanti. The King was deposed and arrested, and he and other Ashanti leaders were sent into exile in the Seychelles, via Elmina and Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Asante Union was dissolved. The British formally declared the state of the Ashanti Kingdom and the coastal regions to be the Gold Coast colony. A British Resident was permanently placed in the city of Kumasi, and soon after a British fort was built there. In essence, King Asantehene Prempeh I was the last King of the Kingdom of Ashanti before the Gold Coast fell under British protectorate. He stayed in exile in the Seychelles for 24 years before the British allowed him to return to Kumasi as a private citizen. In 1926, he was officially recognised as the chief of Kumasi (Kumasihene).

*Tokyo International Antiquarian Book Fair 2022, ABAJ* ⁡ ⁡ The Mission from Cape Coast Castle to Ashantee Thomas Edward Bowdich (1771- 1824) ⁡ This work provides an account of the Asante Empire (in present day Ghana) at the height of its political power. The Asante Empire (1701-1901) was an important regional power in West Africa, known for its military might, wealth, architecture, and culture, which defeated the British twice in war. Bowdich was a British traveler and writer played a key role in the colonization of West Africa. He is remembered for conducting peace negotiations with the Asante Empire, which set the stage for the British annexation of the Gold Coast colony. 7 Most Powerful Queens from African History. Number Seven: Yaa Asantewaa (1840 - 1921), Queen Mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire (located in modern-day Ghana) "She was appointed by her brother Nana Akwasi Afrane Opese, the Edwesuhene, or ruler, of Edwesu. In 1900 she led the Ashanti war known as the War of the Golden Stool, also known as the Yaa Asantewaa War, against British colonial rule. In one meeting, in order to dramatize her determination to go to war, she seized a gun and fired a shot in front of the men. Yaa Asantewaa was chosen by a number of regional Asante kings to be the war-leader of the Asante fighting force. This is the first and only example for a woman to be given that role in Asante history." #AfricanHistory #YaaAsantewaa #Ghana #AshantiEmpire #AfricanQueens #BritishEmpire #Britain #Colonisation

🎉Happy New Year Everyone!🎉🥳 . The final Hightailing Through History episode of 2021 had us recounting the amazing and inspiring story of Yaa Asantewaa, Queen Mother and warrior of the Ashanti Empire who led her people as commander in chief against British colonizers in what was formerly known as the Gold Coast, of which present-day Ghana is historically a part. It all REALLY kicked off when the British Governor there, Sir Frederick Hodgson, demanded* that he sit on the Golden Stool as the new ruler of the people…let’s just say that sort of behavior didn’t go well…AT ALL. . Next up, KT tells us what happens to naughty kids like Governor Hodgsen when they don’t behave: Krampus pays them a visit. Krampus, the somehow beloved half-goat Christmas demon with horns armed with chains, birch sticks and a penchant for dragging naughty kids to hell. . Looks like episode 23 closes out 2021 with the lesson of “don’t be a bad person and do dumb shit and here is why” so…..morals! Can’t say you don’t learn anything here 😂 . . . We hope everyone is having an excellent start to the new year, thank you for following and support and allowing us into your ear holes and brains ♥️🥰 . . . . #HightailingThroughhistory #newepisode #historypodcast #historyisfun #history #yaaasantewaa #queenmotheryaaasantewaa #ashantiempire #ghana #blackhistory #africanhistory #goldenstool #krampus #christmasdemon #krampusnacht #dontbenaughty

The Fifth Anglo-Ashanti War, better known as the War of the Golden Stool, has earned its place in history as being one of the more unusual, if not needless, conflicts of the 20th century. Relations between the British Empire and the Ashanti Empire in what is now present-day Ghana were already strained in 1900; aside from a fairly long history of conflict between the two dating back to the early 1800s, the Ashanti king Prempeh I had recently been sent into exile after leading a failed rebellion against the British only a few years before. The new British governor of the Gold Coast colony, Frederick Mitchell Hodgson, was particularly interested in the Golden Stool of the Ashanti Empire - an immense throne of solid gold, and the very symbol of the Ashanti people, as depicted in its flag. He had already ordered a small secret expedition the previous year to find it, but it returned empty-handed and only aroused the suspicions of the Ashanti. With King Prempeh I in exile and the throne technically vacant, Hodgson took matters into his own hands and mustered a small army of British and locally-recruited soldiers and, in a quest David Lloyd George described as “something like the quest for the Holy Grail,” set off for the Ashanti capital of Kumasi with the aim of obtaining the Golden Stool. Hodgson’s army arrived in late March 1900, where he was greeted with the traditional honours bestowed to representatives of powerful nations. After seeking an audience, and summoning the Ashanti chiefs, Hodgson angrily and repeatedly demanded that, as a representative of Queen Victoria, the Golden Stool be brought to him to sit on, so that he would be made the ruler of the Ashanti on her behalf. One of the most powerful kingdoms in pre-colonial Africa, the Ashanti Empire was practically dripping in wealth. Because they had so much gold and so many enslaved prisoners of war to offer, the Ashanti people were able to purchase modern weaponry from European traders — which would come in handy when they went to war with them later on. Indeed, as the British Empire tried to take over the region in the early 1800s, the Ashanti decided to fight back. Here's how they resisted colonization for nearly a century — read more at the link in our profile. #ashanti #ashantiempire #africanhistory #colonialism #worldhistory

Starting in the late 17th century, the Ashanti king Osei Tutu (c. 1695 – 1717) and his advisor Okomfo Anokye, established the Ashanti Kingdom, with the Golden Stool of Asante as a sole unifying symbol. Osei Tutu oversaw a massive Ashanti territorial expansion, building up the army by introducing new organization and turning a disciplined royal and paramilitary army into an effective fighting machine. In 1701, the Ashanti army conquered Denkyira, giving the Ashanti access to the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean coastal trade with Europeans, notably the Dutch. #africanhistory #ashantiempire #bloomresearch #bloomcollection
