私が祇園祭に関わるようになったのは、1990年代の着物から始まって、昔は祗園祭というのは「着物祭」も呼ばれました。 My involvement with the Gion Matsuri began in the 1990s with kimono, appropriately so: it used to be called "The Kimono Matsuri.” 祇園祭は日本の着物の中心地で行われ、最新の着物ファッションを見ることができました。 The Gion Festival takes place in the heart of Japan's kimono epicenter, and was where you saw all the latest kimono fashions. 私は祗園祭の山鉾町に住んでいて、大家さんが呉服屋さんだった。彼は外国人客を着物の染めや織りの工房に連れて行き、私に通訳を頼みました。 I was living in the Gion Matsuri yamaboko (float) neighborhood, and my landlord was a kimono dealer. Gion geisha district & the Yasaka Shrine #Geisha is probably one of the first words that sprang to my mind when I was visiting Kyoto. During my walk towards the Yasaka Shrine, I witnessed a few lovely dressed ladies walking around the path. They were dressed in elegant and expensive traditional silk kimonos with their hair up and wearing chalk-white makeup as they walked along in their wooden geta clogs and white socks. They are the Geishas. My destination, the beautiful 5-storey Yasaka Shrine is the centre of the annual #GionFestival and is one of the spiritual places in Kyoto. The shrine is also known as the Gion Shrine. 文化審議会でサントリー美術館保管、土佐光茂筆「日吉山王・祇園祭礼図屏風」を重要文化財に登録すると答申されました。16世紀中頃の作とされますが、函谷鉾も描かれており、既に現在の鉾の様式に近い姿が認められます。一見、「洛中洛外図屏風」と似ておりますが、「祇園祭礼図屏風」は祇園祭にフォーカスした屏風です。本作は中世、非常に影響力のあった日吉社（現在の日吉大社）の例祭である山王祭と対をなしている最古の現存例であることが評価されました。 当時、日吉社も祇園社も比叡山延暦寺の支配下にあり（日吉社は延暦寺の守護神、祇園社は延暦寺の末社）、朝廷と延暦寺、そして室町幕府の駆け引きの中で、祇園祭も大きな影響を受けました。室町時代、山王祭（4月）の催行が祇園祭（当時は6月）催行の実態的に前提であったことから、延暦寺が意図的に山王祭の催行を遅らせ、その影響で15世紀半ばには祇園祭の延期は11回におよび、内６回は12月に行われました（この力関係は信長の比叡山焼き討ちまで続きます）。そうした背景を踏まえ、二つの祭がセットで描かれております。 尚、日吉大社の山王祭は3月初めから4月中頃まで催行されており、現在、真っただ中です（延暦寺の僧兵が神輿を担ぎ、朝廷に強訴したのは山王祭の神輿です）。 現代はそれぞれの祭は独立していますが、当時は緊密に繋がっておりました。そういう歴史的経緯を知れば祇園祭もまた別の発見が出来るかもしれません。 https://www.suntory.co.jp/sma/collection/data/detail?id=548 #函谷鉾 #2024祇園祭 #厄除けちまき #京都 #KYOTO #GIONFESTIVAL #KANKOBOKO #祇園祭礼図屏風 #重要文化財 #日吉山王祭
