I went to Brooklyn Museum for “Brooklyn Talks: Takashi Murakami” There was a talk on Murakami’s new series of paintings that respond to Utagawa Hiroshige’s 100 Famous Views of Edo, a Brooklyn Museum treasure that is on view for the first time in 24 years. It was an interesting discussion about how Utahawa Hiroshige inspired Van Gogh and Takashi Murakami copied Van Gogh’s Utagawa copy. We enjoyed that comparison of the original Utagawa Hiroshige’s picture and Takashi Murakami’s picture. Both were amazing. Can you see what the difference is? I wear my granma’s kimono today which is not as old as the Edo period but pretty old and I like it. It represents a theatrical vignette where a shooting star delivers a report from the celestial realm to Orihime and Hikoboshi, who are enjoying their Tanabata rendezvous. The shooting star recounts the tale of how husband of the Thunder Couple, fell from the clouds and became captivated by a popular Hauta song during his stay at the master's house of Hauta song. Despite returning to the home, Raijin remained enchanted by the song, much to the annoyance of his wife, sparking marital discord. The shooting star concluded the narrative, wiped away sweat, and then faded into the distant sky. 「鉄道系シンガーソングライター」なんですが
大阪愛を込めて『河内のおっさんの唄』を聞かせてくれたり
渋い声と渋いトークで大人ワールド。

În data de 30 aprilie 1839, în Tokyo (Japonia), se naște Tsukioka Yoshitoshi – tipograf. Artistul este unul dintre ultimii practicanți ai tipului de gravură și pictură pe lemn denumită „ukiyo-e”. Cariera sa a cuprins atât ultimii ani ai epocii Edo precum și începutul Restaurației Meiji, care a modernizat profund Japonia. Alături de alți contemporani ai săi, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi a fost interesat de noile lucruri importate din restul lumii, însă în timp a devenit din ce în ce mai îngrijorat de pierderea unor numeroase aspecte ale culturii japoneze tradiționale, printre care și gravura tradițională în lemn. Spre sfârșitul carierei sale, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi ducea o luptă aproape singur împotriva timpului și a tehnologiei. În timp ce Japonia adopta mijloace noi de reproducere vizuală, precum fotografia sau litografia, el a perseverat în arta sa, înainte ca ea să se stingă însă odată cu trecerea lui în veșnicie.
