Meet Jason one of our former students from Bali, Indonesia ✨ Jason studied Mechanical Engineering and was employed as an Intern Design Engineer at Creative Composites from 2022 - 2023 💼⚙️🔩 During Jason's time at INTO he received an academic achievement award for topping 2nd place in his classes at INTO.🏅 In his second year, he received 2 prestigious awards from the university for the highest weighted average mark in the second year (FV Warnock Prize) and for the highest grade achieved in the entire faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (IMechE Best Student Award). 🏆 When we asked Jason about his experience at INTO Queen's, Queen’s University and his career prospects he said, "The institution helps students in every way preparing them for professional careers. The employability module in year 2 assisted students in various aspects in aligning their ability to fit into their desired professional career, from CV writing to mock interviews." - "QUB graduates are equipped with the experience of having to work with advanced engineering systems like Solidworks, Abaqus, Autocad, Ansys, Matlab etc. These are plus points that make students much more employable at the end of their academic journey." 🤝👔 Jason's top tips for students were....... 1. Identify what you want to become after you finish your studies and evaluate what skills you need to achieve that goal. For me this meant obtaining an engineering degree 👨🎓 2. Be diligent and stay committed to your goals. For me this looked like finishing all my tutorials on time, NEVER skip a lecture, make tidy readable notes and stay mentally prepared to take on challenges. 📖🖊 3. NEVER hesitate to ask question and ASK FOR HELP ✅ 4. Find classmates you are happy studying with, helping each other out. 💻 5. "When I was 9 or 10, I entered a competition like Indonesia’s version of Britain's Got Talent on national television. As a child, I was timid and introverted so my mum enrolled me in various competitions to build confidence. I had to quarantine away from my family for 7-8 months. I was just a child, so the pressure was immense. Every weekend, our team had to perform on national TV and learn several dances - all while doing home-schooling. "However, there were many blessings to be found in the experience. I learnt that hard work, perseverance and resilience are essential. Our team won first place in the Talented Children category and received an offer for a TV show. "My parents always strove to provide my brother and I with the best education they could, even if it meant being far from their children. Besides education, they taught us life values and how to be individuals who love to help others. "When I saw the campus at Queen’s I immediately fell in love, but the best thing about Queen’s is the support system. When we are far from our parents, especially when it is our first time in the UK, the support from the university means a lot. We can share our concerns and they will assist us to the fullest. "I continue to practise #IndonesianDance in Belfast. #Indonesia has a rich culture and there are over 3000 dances from 38 provinces. I’ve mastered some of them and I liked to mix them with other styles – cultures can blend to create such great collaborations. I hope, through dance and culture, more people will become acquainted with and interested in Indonesia. "When people ask what I would tell someone starting at Queen’s, the answer's easy. You've come to the right place, a nice city, and world-class education standards with excellent support systems. 29 Sep 2023 marked the first of the new series of events titled ‘The Road Ahead’ organised by Dr Roxana Magee with the aim of facilitating scholarly activity, networking and informal mentoring between current and past INTO QUB students. We caught up with Student Ambassador, Manmin, this week, to hear what she has been up to! Manmin recently helped out at the Queen’s University Belfast Undergraduate Open Day on 9th September 2023. Manmin worked in the Whitla Hall, welcoming visitors. Her role involved understanding the visitors’ course interests and directing them to the corresponding schools and assisted with setting up the event. Manmin shared this with us about her experience: “It was an amazing day that I had the opportunity to talk to so many students who are curious about higher education and desire to learn more about their course interest. All of my colleagues were showing great passion for this event.
