Every year around my birthday a word comes to me for the season ahead. When I came to Iceland I thought my word for this year would be “adventure”, but the more time I’ve spent here, the more I realize this years word is actually MAGIC✨ Everywhere I went light and color magically filled the sky nearby — auroras, rainbows and pools of light reflecting from streams, lakes and ponds — so moved by it all. I owe my time in Iceland a lot mostly because it was right on time for me. I’ve been extremely blessed the last year and half to travel to 3 incredible countries (Australia/Brazil/Canada) and several states including Alaska as seen in the post :) Maybe I’ll post some of those pics🤷‍♀️ But for now, I want to be real, life has been tough lots of ups and downs. I’m not where I thought I’d be at 22 but I’m glad I’m here🫶 If you’ve talked with me within the last week I’ve probably blurted out “I SAW THE AURORA BOREALIS” if not here you go✨ swipe and you’ll see 2 beautiful pictures. (I have more DM me if you want to see more/learn more I didn’t want to nerd out on everyone) These pictures are incredibly special to me because they’re an answer to prayer. Yes, a “silly” prayer to see the Aurora Borealis but it meant so much to me. I wanted to see this since I was 8 years old. I cried on the cruise bc I thought I missed it twice and I wouldn’t be able to see it again. But God showed up, even though we were the most south and astronomers I talked to couldn’t believe how vibrant it was. (I might have cried when I saw it I’ll leave that up to your imagination) For me this was just a tap on the shoulder from the Lord as a reminder He’s there even in the chaos. He cares even about the little things🫶 —————————————————— “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. The Little Cedar Spirit Tree and the Northern Lights. To me- this is my perfect photo. It represents everything that I got into photography for in the first place. I was at a sacred site, with my friends, on an adventure under the night sky and the Northern Lights. If it were not for photography, I would not have been able to experience this. I would have also missed out on so many other adventures. Not every adventure becomes worthwhile, but I do not regret a single one. 3.12.2024 Began our day with breakfast. STF had a huge variety at the breakfast buffet. For lunch, we had the pork chops with pepper sauce and potatoes. We then got to explore the visitor center for Abisko National Park and see/learn about the animals and plants found around the area. For dinner, we each started with the beetroot pappardelle with deep-fried brick cheese, pomegranate cream, and herb oil. For entrées, Nick got the reindeer dish again while I tried the baked Arctic Char with green pea purée, potato and vegetable croquette, and tomato Beurre blanc. For dessert, I was very excited to get the white chocolate mousse again and Nick tried the Petit Choux filled with chocolate mousse, raspberry coulis and creme chantilly. Then, we were off for our last night aurora hunting. Our guides this night were the same as our first night - Alex and Sara! They took our groups out to a frozen lake where it was mostly clear. Our guides dug a hole on the frozen lake to build a fire and made a snow bench surrounding it. We again enjoyed lingonberry juice and a Kex bar while warming up hoping the aurora would get stronger. The aurora popped up a few times throughout the night but remained pretty light. This was our last night in Abisko 🥺 but I was looking forward to finally getting some cold medicine! Abisko is such a small town that they only have 1 store, and it was 30+ minutes to walk to and no transportation like taxis. Unfortunately, the shop at STF didn't carry any medicines 😭 but now I'll forever have just-in-case cold medicine packed along for trips 😂

3.10.2024 Up bright and early for our snowmobiling adventure! Got to see quite a few moose while out on our excursion 🫎 Our guide, Julien, stopped along the way and taught us about reindeer, Sami, and the area. Halfway through, we got to enjoy warm lingonberry juice and delicatobolls while listening to Julien share about Lapporten. We then got to switch, and I got to drive the snowmobile! Let me tell you - they look a lot easier to drive than they actually are! 🫨 Back to STF for lunch – a very tasty taco bar! 🤤 We explored around the shop in STF – mostly items for hiking and layering to stay warm Dinner – Nick and I both tried the reindeer! Butter-fried reindeer with a potato cake, black garlic cream, baked beetroot, and a honey and juniper sauce. Surprisingly tasted like steak! Then it was time to layer up again for night 2 of aurora hunting! The guides this night were Alex and Michelle, but we got to go back out with Alex! Also, in our group again were our TN friends - Noel and Diane! ☺️ little did we know this couple we had met while walking from the train station to the turiststation would be in the same group as us every night aurora hunting 🤩 Alex took us ~35 minutes from STF – a wooded area near Torneträsk. This location ended up being great because we had clear skies the entire time we were out and didn't have to change locations like the other group did. We had an amazing light show for our first time seeing the northern lights! We got to see all sorts of dancing and a variety of colors! Alex shared that not only was the activity we had quite rare where the lights stay active the entire time, but also the colors we got to see as red and magenta aren't common that far north. Alex shared stories of his experience, taught us about the lights including the science behind them, what to look for when looking at space weather, and also offered to take photos of each of us with the aurora in the background 🤩 So thankful we got such an amazing experience 🥹

3.9.2024 bonus post Couldn't fit it all in 1 post so here's a few more from that night - light painting and a few more scenery photos Our one guide was pretty impressed it was my 1st time light painting and remembered to reverse letters so it'd appear correctly 😝 then our guide helped take a photo of both Nick and I for a few attempts at a heart and then another person in our group clicked the button while our guide, Sara, ran around us making the squiggle design 🤩 made for a fun night even though the weather didn't clear up

3.9.2024 — how we spent my birthday! 🥳 Train switch 1st thing in the morning at 5:20am 😴 even though the switch wasn't part of our original plans, we did get to watch the sunrise + I got to see a fox running through the woods and a moose for the 1st time! 🫎 got the fox in a video but wasn't quick enough with the moose lol Made it to Abisko! While we waited for our room to be ready - explored around Abisko Turiststation a bit. Grabbed lunch - salmon burger in lobster sauce, vegan burger in vegetarian sauce, roasted and boiled potatoes. Played a couple rounds of chess. Nick beat me every time 😒 I blame lack of sleep from the train 😂 Our room was ready! We had an awesome corner room, which allowed us to see the surrounding mountains on both sides that the windows faced 🤩 bathroom also had a neat towel-warming rack Then we grabbed dinner – we both had the low-tempered sirloin steak with harissa butter, fried baked potato, pumpkin puré and a port wine sauce Then we headed out for our 1st night of aurora hunting! 🥳 we were taken to a remote spot behind the mountain lodge in town, had to get there by snowmobiles pulling sleds covered in reindeer hides 🛷 we had pretty thick clouds this night, but could see there was a lot of activity behind the clouds and got some cool photos of green clouds. We sat around a fire inside a tent waiting for clouds to hopefully break – listening to stories, drinking warm lingonberry juice, and given a Kex bar as a little treat. Since we unfortunately didnt get any clouds breaks, we played around with some light painting - but I'll have to share those photos in the next post! Our guides, Alex and Sara, also sang happy birthday to me in Swedish with a candle to blow out and gave me an extra birthday treat - a delicatoboll 🥹

3.7.2024 After almost 2 full days of traveling, we finally made it to Sweden! overnight flight from NY↠London — played some games on steamdecks, watched The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes together (&got the time synced perfectly!), in-flight dinner- salad, BBQ chicken, rice, dinner roll, cheese and crackers, in-flight breakfast- oj, yogurt, granola mix, and fig bar London↠Stockholm — 3 hour layover in London, which worked out pretty well with commuting between the terminals and grabbing some lunch at Pret A Manger. Finally in Stockholm! Hopped on the Arlanda Express (1st pic in post) to head into the part of Stockholm our hotel was in. Amazing room with our own private Swedish sauna in the room. Then, we headed out to look around a little bit and grab some dinner at Swede Hollow - Swedish meatballs with lingonberries and mashed potatoes 🤤
