Lucy had her very first SPAW Day and she loved it!! The very talented and patient Camilla at Pet Valu Rivergrove generously volunteered 3 hours of her day on Saturday to give our Lovely Lucy a wonderful full groom treatment. When she heard Lucy needed to be cleaned up before she heads to her surgery this week, she said, ‘It would be my pleasure to give that to Lucy!’ Camilla said Lucy was fabulous and so calm with the whole new experience! She had a Lucy Fur Storm in the room during the blow out and Lucy likely lost a few pounds of loose fur. She feels and looks 100% better! Lovely Lucy will be going for surgery on Monday. She has a large patch of severely damaged skin on her back that needs to be removed. In an effort to keep the incision site dry and prevent her from licking it, I decided to try a life jacket. She can’t wear a cone because the cones are highly stressful for her as she can’t judge her distances from obstacles or stairs, etc. Her foster family tried a t-shirt but she licks the t-shirt till it’s soaken wet. She seems to not mind the life jacket at all and air can still get underneath the jacket to help the area dry. Meet Lucy!! Lucy has been in our care for a very long time! She is just the sweetest and most quiet young lady 🥰 but Lucy is blind. We assume folks are nervous about how well she can function and navigate the world around her without full sight. We can tell you that our lovely Lucy does just great! Lucy is a super calm and gentle little lady. She's smaller than she looks in her photos, more of a medium sized gal, although she could afford to lose a few pounds with additional exercise. She's a very affectionate but not in a pushy excited way… she has an old soul and is just so relaxed. She loves to be petted and will sit by you for as long as you are willing to give her attention🥰 We think Lucy can see shadows and can track things, she just needs a moment to get familiar with her surroundings. Her sense of smell is excellent and if she knows you have treats, either by smelling them or she hears the crinkle of the bag, she’ll sit or stand perfectly still waiting for you to give her some. It’s adorable🥰 Lucy absolutely loves to be outside and she walks so nicely. If not going for a neighbourhood walk, Lucy is either relaxing on her dog bed in front of the window tracking shadows or outside lying on the deck in the shade of the gazebo. Lucy loves her life 🥰 She navigates her way around the house very well and senses stairs as she approaches them. She moves around slowly to give herself enough time to react to furniture etc. Lucy will adapt easily to a new home and she is so friendly.
