Decided last night to do something a little different for FundayFriday and try the Edale Skyline….and maybe run it 🏃, well walk/run it. Inspired by Jasmin Paris and her totally epic Barkley Marathons completion I decided to push myself abit and see what I could do. I had in mind a 5 hour completion (no idea why as I’ve done no training and haven’t ran in ages). Anyway did it in 5hrs 41mins 37secs. Had an amazing hike in the Peak District today (thanks to @samrculley for the parking tip). We watched the sun rise with a bacon Sarnie at the top of Mam Tor before taking in Back Tor and Lose Hill. We then headed towards Castleton before heading up the trail behind the gorgeous Peveril Castle and eventually circling back to Mam Tor. Such stunning views and the weather was very kind to us. We braved Mam Tor today! 🌞 🏞️
Having had Peak District withdrawal symptoms yesterday I headed out to Castleton. I had been watching the weather but somehow I had neglected to see it would be windy!… windy was an understatement. I started off going through cave Dale which was really slippery as water was running down the limestone. Then at the top the hail came. The hail hurt my face and legs as the wind was driving it. It was difficult to stand and to see. This happened a couple of times on the way up to Mam tor. At the summit it was so windy you could hardly stand up. I managed to get to the trig point for a photo. Then the run along the ridge to back tor and onto lose hill! The side winds were bad and people were walking at an angle. Teamed with the frequent hail storms which you could see coming across the valley made it hard work. Once I got to lose hill I made my way back to Hollins cross and decided to drop back down the valley to get away from the wind. In my “blagging” it to somehow get back to Castleton I came across the broken road, the Odin mine and a crushing circle used to crush the iron ore. Then I followed signs back to Castleton but it was ridiculously muddy!
