[Ad-Press Trip] We are sailing onboard Ambassador Ambience on an Around Britain (plus) voyage from London Cruise Terminal, Tilbury. Embarkation was a dream taking less than an hour from parking to walking into our cabin (and our luggage arrived shortly after). We are staying in a Junior Suite (more on that in another post) and had some thoughtful yummy treats awaiting us - thank you @ambassadorcruiseline! After a pasta lunch in Borough Market (the buffet), we explored the ship before our muster drill and sail away to that famous British port -Rotterdam 🤷🏻♀️🤣. Next we went to the Purple Turtle Pub for ‘Easy Trivia’ which apparently wasn’t so easy for us as we only scored 9/15. Hopefully we will improve. Dinner in Buckingham Restaurant was a multi-course delight with lots of options. I chose a caramelised onion & cheese tart, Greek Salad, Pork Loin and Lemon Meringue Pie. On a very full tummy, we headed to the Palladium Theatre for a very good (but quite random) performance called The Enchanted Garden. The ships performers seem very talented - and we were even treated to a pitch-perfect rendition of Nessun dorma. We finished the night with cocktails in the quirky Observatory where we enjoyed a mix of golden oldies performed by the ships duo. I’ve been unpacking some of my old wagons. My layout is set around the Docklands and I wanted some representative traffic. Unfortunately, authentic Port of London Authority internal user wagons were not available when I started, nor were appropriate decals, so I had to hand-paint these based on photos and film footage. The wagons in the second photo are also hand-painted, mostly because it was cheap. They’re banana vans, because bananas were a major source of traffic from the West India dock. I decided to paint them slightly different shades, to represent different degrees of fading and weathering. GYC's club keelboat Elektra had a great sunny day out for the inaugural Thames Multisport Challenge yesterday! We had a full crew of 6 whom all kept the pink spinnaker and main fully powered from start till finish in the downwind race to Erith Yacht Club. Our biker - Andrew Clarke and runner - Minna both got ashore at EYC and raced back to GYC to help Team Elektra finish with line honours and on podium! We will definitely be back for next years edition. With the possibility of a 2nd GYC keelboat, we hope to get more new people on the water to learn how to sail and race these fun, safe and fast keelboats which are perfect for the Thames.
