🌱🥕🌿 Today, Pre-K friends had a wonderful time harvesting carrots and peas that Dr. Mindy planted a few months ago. Due to the limited sun, it took longer than expected for them to grow, but they finally made it! Among the carrots, we found a rolly-polly and a small green caterpillar, which we carefully relocated to the butterfly garden. After washing all the carrots and beans, we got straight to work peeling! Most friends enjoyed both the carrots and the beans. Once they figured out how to split open the pod, they became more adventurous in trying them. Text: DID YOU KNOW? If your 3-4 year old has a diagnosis of Autism or a speech-language disorder you can get speech therapy for free through your local public school? Yes, it's true! Even if they didn't have an IFSP in early-intervention services (San Diego Regional Center if you're local) they can still access an IEP (special education) once they turn 3. The school district will need to do an evaluation to determine if they qualify, and you will need to request this in writing to the Special Education director, but if they qualify for services they are of course free! The school district has to respond to your request for an evaluation within 10 days and then they have 15 days to send you an assessment plan to sign. After that they have 60 days to complete the evaluation and present you with the results and the individualized education plan (IEP) if your child qualifies. Now if they don't qualify, you don't have to agree with those findings or sign it, that's when you message me and we come up with a plan! Autism is just one of the eligibility categories, speech-language impairment is another, but there are 13 total. One other misconception people have is that if they offer you a full preschool program, you have to enroll your child in that program or get no services at all. In fact, you can deny some of the services in an offer of FAPE and just accept speech-language services and schedule those on an itinerant basis. Clinic-therapists, make sure you are referring those clients about to turn three to their local school for an evaluation! Some districts do evals over the summer as well. 🌸 Introducing Juniper’s “Floral Echos”! 🌿 Juniper explored cyanotype printing to create this masterpiece for the Boots & Bling Silent Auction. Cyanotype is an antique photographic process where light-sensitive fabric captures anything that casts a shadow into blue monochromatic prints. Working together, the children collected flowers from the gardens around the school and arranged them on the cyanotype fabric. Excitement filled the air as the fabric transformed under the sun's rays. But the real magic happened when the children rinsed the fabric in cool water! Juniper collaborated with Mr. Royer to craft custom wood frames, adding a captivating 3D effect to their cyanotypes.
