Hierdoor kunnen we ons oriënteren en onze bewegingen coördineren. Zonder ons vestibulaire systeem zouden we moeite hebben met trappen afgaan, lopen, rennen, fietsen of zelfs rechtop staan. Het vestibulaire systeem werkt nauw samen met andere zintuigen, zoals het zicht en het waarnemen van het eigen lichaam, om zo onze omgeving ten volle te kunnen ervaren. Dit helpt ons om effectief en veilig te bewegen. Dit zintuig wordt vaak over het hoofd gezien, maar is zo belangrijk voor het ontwikkelen van evenwicht en coördinatie bij kinderen. My best advice is to first tend to the parents: get supports in place for your own mental health and self-care, which includes community. It’s okay. They’re still the same kid. Now you know what they need, and you can get them the support that they’re entitled to. Take a breath. We’re here for you. It isn’t an easy path, it is one that will require you to grow. Your kid is still the same beloved child, and now you know what they need! They now have a diagnosis that will open doors to the support that they are entitled to. You will learn how to open those doors. If you run at them all at once you will exhaust yourself. There will be ups and downs, but you and your family have just taken a big step toward learning what your child needs, and now you can pause before the next step. Yes, you can pause. Therapy and self-care for myself have helped my whole family so much more than most of the interventions for my kid. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Get supports in place for your own mental health and self-care. Seek out a community of parents who understand.
