ADC Audio is pleased to introduce Turntablist: a tactile scratching device. Just like a scratch crossfader, it can cut/activate a stereo audio signal. It features two mixable inputs: a stereo phono/line input with EQ (scratches) and a stereo auxiliary input (beat playback). There are two touchplates: a large one at the bottom (usually for the thumb) and a thinner one at the center (usually for the other fingers). In REG (regular) mode, touching one of the two touchplates will activate the sound (transform based scratches) and touching both touchplates will cut the sound (flare based scratches). In HAM (hamster) mode, touching one of the two touchplates will cut the sound and touching both touchplates will activate the sound. After a few hours of practice, it is surprisingly easy to perform complex scratches, especially if one’s already used to scratch on traditional mixers. Technology Review: Showa Record Speaker Manufactured by タカラトミーアーツ(TAKARATOMY A.R.T.S) Shipped from Japan many years ago before the upgraded reissues of the portable Japanese turntable Columbia GP Series came into being. I ordered this thinking it was just a miniature turntable rather than this Bluetooth & App enabled portable speaker. This is a fun toy, producing a distorted & retro sound to your modern playlist (the motor is loud). The gimmick here is the tone-arm being used to activate the deck spinning, to make the playback seem more interactive (rather than a simple pairing as with other bluetooth speakers). The speed change does work, so you can slow down tracks to the equivalent of 33.3rpm using the physical button. Issued with 2 mini-toy discs, the tone-arm activates the playback but the app screen can be messed with using your finger on the screen's spinning vinyl icon to scratch and pullback. Design details are accurately reproduced (including the case cover).
