#QUESTION: How do you sum up 5 years succinctly when they’ve been such a #transformational time? Answer: You don’t but I’ll try. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I said, “Yes!” to becoming a DOBO and eventually an Assistant Coach. Truly it’s been one hell of a ride from player, to Ireland🇮🇪, to coach, and now finally back to Alum for good. I was blessed to be in an environment where I got to bring my entire self to work everyday and laugh a whole lot more than I cried. (Oh, the stories I could tell 🤐😂) I had the fortune to observe, learn from, and coach against some of the best in business. I am eternally grateful for each player—my babies ❤️🐣—I got the chance to build a relationship with and annoy in love. Thank you to Chloe, Sticks, Sierra, Steve, and Durk for each leaving me a better colleague, coach, and person after working together. Last but certainly never least, I owe a huge thank you to @RiderCoachMilli for opening her arms and the doors of the program to me professionally. I’ve listened, learned, procrastinated 😅, grown and grown up. Thankfully, since the moment I got to campus in July 2011, @RiderWBB and @RiderCoachMilli have been preparing me for “Life After Rider” and that time has finally come. As a proud band geek & nerd, two of the greatest lessons I got from Mr. Watkins (besides his presence as one of the few black male teachers I’ve ever had) was first his passion for music even outside the classroom. When he wasn’t teaching he made time to do gigs, where he could shake his locs and jam out. He was an early example that I didn’t have to forego my passions for a profession—a lesson I reflect upon daily. There is room for both. Second, his ability to get a bunch of kids to conduct themselves like professionals is amazing. When it was show time, it was 🎬Showtime🎬 and he taught us to go out there, Represent ⚓️💙🤍 & Kill it.
