En cette journée spéciale, je veux rendre hommage à deux personnes exceptionnelles : Barbara Felettig , alias Wobass, et Charles Hearst . Tout a commencé en 2015, quand j'ai sorti un album qui a attiré l'attention de Charles, un ancien agent artistique basé à New York et ami d'enfance de Niles Rodgers et Keith Sweat. Charles, bien que retraité de l'industrie musicale, avait toujours un amour indéfectible pour la musique. Il m'a approché avec passion pour élargir la portée de cet album aux États-Unis. Avec son guidance, j'ai rencontré Barbara, une bassiste talentueuse au groove incomparable. Sa capacité à fusionner avec ma musique était magique. Je lui ai même donné carte blanche pour enrichir nos morceaux de son incroyable jeu de basse, y compris ses fameuses 'cocottes'. Cette collaboration a donné naissance à des sonorités uniques et mémorables. Ensemble, avec l'influence de Charles, nous avons donné naissance à un nouvel album, P2.0. Malgré les défis et les rebondissements, cet album a vu le jour, portant en lui nos rêves et nos aspirations. Mais parfois, la vie nous réserve des tournants inattendus. La disparition de Charles a été un choc pour moi, un homme qui a cru en moi et en ma musique. Aujourd'hui, alors que nous célébrons l'anniversaire de Barbara, je tiens à lui rendre hommage pour sa contribution exceptionnelle à notre album et à la musique en général. Et à Charles, je dédie ce post à sa mémoire, pour tout ce qu'il a fait pour moi et pour la musique. 🎵 Plongée dans la légende avec "All Eyez on Me" de 2Pac 🌟 Aujourd'hui, je veux vous parler d'un album qui résonne en moi depuis toujours : "All Eyez on Me" de 2Pac. Rien que ce titre, ça résume parfaitement ce que représente la musique pour moi. Parce que franchement, pourquoi vouloir être artiste si ce n'est pas pour attirer l'amour à soi ? J'ai découvert 2Pac grâce à Digital Underground, dont j'étais un grand fan. Mais quand il est apparu, produit par Death Row, avec le tube "California Love", je me suis dit que ce gars-là avait quelque chose de spécial, même si je n'ai pas aimé ce morceau dès la première écoute, c'est ce double album qui a complètement changé la donne. Impossible de dire quel morceau je préfère, je change d'avis à chaque écoute, parce que chaque titre est une pépite à part entière. je découvre de nouveaux détails, de nouvelles émotions. Cet album, c'est vraiment un bonheur sans fin, et il reste indémodable, même après toutes ces années. Je suis convaincu que pour beaucoup, "All Eyez on Me" est une évidence, mais pour moi, c'est bien plus que ça. C'est l'album de rap ultime, le summum de la production, et un témoignage intemporel de la puissance de la musique pour toucher les âmes. From as far back as mid-70s, the robo-voice machine fit the funk like a futuristic glove. Soon you could hardly move for androids at the funky mic, notably including Ray Parker Jr, The Jonzun Crew, Midnight Star and of course Herbie Hancock (not to mention those using the similarish talkbox, like Stevie Wonder and Zapp). Herbie had been using vocoders as far back as 1978's Sunlight, and fired them into the top 10 with his stuttering 83 smash Rockit. “Well, woke up this morning with a wine glass in my hand. Whose wine? What wine? Where the hell did I dine? Must have been a dream, I don’t believe where I’ve been. Come on, let’s do it again.” Or maybe not. So crazy how hinge change. How we change. Girl. I couldn’t wait for that weekend drink, or two, maybe three, but that would be past my limit and I can’t tell you anything after that but today, I don’t feel like it. Really. Sure, I’m all about having a bit but those nutty days are way back there, and it’s a ok. Peter Frampton wrote a whole song about feeling the way he did the morning after and that experience on paper got him where he is today. The huge version of this song was released in 1976 on his album, “Frampton Comes Alive!” but the original version came out in ‘73 on his second album, “Frampton’s Camel”. Bassist Rick Wills is on “Camel” and in ‘79, he joined Foreigner when Ed Gagliardi left, has joined current Foreigner on stage at several shows and has co-writing credit for this amazing single. Back to Peter. The talk box was brought to the light through this song because Peter used it in a way that no one had dreamed of. Aerosmith used it but it just wasn’t like how Peter used it. He gave it life. It was part of him and it drew us in and made us feel like he did. See what I did there. “Frampton Comes Alive!” is one of the best selling live albums ever, and it’s a double, which made it that much sweeter. “Do You Feel Like We Do” is a long one, clocking in at 14 minutes and 15 seconds, which was part of the allure of the song. You could just sit there, kick back and listen. Of course the radio version was whittled down because there was no way a 14 plus minute song was going to make it on the air but at 7 minutes, that was still really long for the radio and sone DJs cut it even shorter to make it work. Peter will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this October. A huge congratulations to him and the rest of the inductees, including Lou Gramm, who has worked with Peter a lot over the years. What a fabulous ceremony this will be and I’m sure they will all feel like they do, whatever that feeling may be. xo
