Sunday. Challenge Teaching "One small Step" which is about how to close the gap between where you are and where God is calling you. That was the first Sunday of a 3 weeks serie. I challenged the 6 to 18 years old with "Who are you?" Most of them had no answer. Who you are is the essence of you, not what you do, what you have or how you feel. The essence of you is how God made you in your mothers womb. The essence of you is what is important to God. We talked about religion and how religion can let you work, but if it is not with a right heart, it does'nt count. We talked about how quick it can change what you have, one day you have a lot and next day you can loose it. It does not count for God either. And we talked about how the world can let you feel happy one day and the other day sad or angry. God wants your heart! And it does'nt matter how old you are, you have to make a decision, take one small step and obey without objection and a right heart. Just like Noah did. Do you know who you are? [1/2] “I wouldn’t say I’m really conscious about mental health generally, though I’m aware about my personal mental health. I used to have a very bad temper, and sometimes because I was angry I did things that were irrational. After calming down I’d ask myself what did I just do, honestly I hated that feeling. I could no longer use my temper as an excuse, I had to be accountable for my actions. So I started paying attention, whenever I found myself in a situation that was going to trigger my temper. I’d try as much as possible to stay calm telling myself “you don’t wanna do something you’re gonna regret after”. It wasn’t as easy as it might sound, I had to go do some reading on how to control temper and it worked for me eventually. A lot of things are going to stress you; in business, relationships and even your own family. That’s the way of life, but how you remain cool headed, how you handle yourself in the middle of such situations is everything. This is going to sound funny but I also chose to workout whenever I was angry, I took my temper to the gym and by the time I was out. Unless we proactively confront the disproportionate jailing of Black and Brown youth, there will be no recovery. We must dismantle the oppressive systems of mass incarceration by building stronger, safer, and more equitable communities where youth of color are no longer criminalized for the violence and discrimination they face. There must be a strong sense of advocacy present to fight for criminal justice reform and a prison system that rehabilitates itself.
