“Sunday is the perfect day to refuel your soul and be grateful for each and every one of your blessings.” • {swipe⬅️} I am BEYOND words for yesterday’s bountiful blessings! “STEAM Beyond OUR Wildest Dreams 🚀” - my platform’s biggest endeavor culminated yesterday as I witnessed 7 AMAZING high school students, who truly dared to STEAM Beyond Their Wildest Dreams, and take on the challenge of entrusting me as their mentor (January 2024) to champion projects in STEM related fields and participate in NAACP’s ACT-SO New Orleans STEM Regional Competition- a feat that none of them had ever attempted before! With the help of some of my amazing “STEM Divas” (who stepped in to help volunteering lab spaces and coordinating medical & science tours that few get to witness), one of which was a previous mentee of mine, we collectively volunteered our time and efforts and saw these high school students FROM ACROSS LOUISIANA through their FIRST STEM ACADEMIC RESEARCH POSTER COMPETITION 🎉!!!! Yesterday I witnessed 7 AMAZING high school students, who truly dared to STEAM Beyond Their Wildest Dreams, take on the challenge of entrusting me as their mentor (since January 2024) to champion projects in STEM related fields and participate in NAACP ACT-SO STEM Regional Competition- a feat that none of them had ever attempted before! With the help of some of my amazing “STEM Diva” colleagues (who stepped in to help volunteering lab spaces and coordinating medical & science tours that few get to witness), one of which was also a previous mentee of mine, we collectively volunteered our time and efforts and saw these high school students FROM ACROSS LOUISIANA through their FIRST STEM ACADEMIC RESEARCH POSTER COMPETITION 🎉!!!! About 6 months ago I had a moment where everything falls in to place. After a couple of years of struggling with a whole heap of non descript symptoms like feeling exhausted and stressed however much I slept, bloated and low mood, I changed my diet but could shift any weight I realised I was burnt out. The term ‘burn out’ is a state of chronic stress characterised by physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion. It typically occurs as a result of prolonged exposure to high levels of stress, whether from work, caregiving responsibilities, or other life demands. I was fed up of reading or receiving advice of how I needed to remove the stress from my life in order to reduce the feelings of burnout and the subsequent symptoms I was feeling. My main source of stress is juggling mum life while my son has constant hospital admissions from a rare disease. Now I’m clearly not removing my children from my life! My sister sent me a great book about burn out and in there it describes the difference between a stress vs a stressor. Here’s a little bit about me and who I am ⇾ ⚖︎ ❤︎ This page is to keep me accountable for being the best Mum and partner I can be and realising that, this includes taking care of myself and prioritising my own needs too. I have 3 children, the age gap between the oldest and youngest is 3 years and 2 months…. what was I thinking?! Moving to other side of the world, away from my family and friends to be with the love of my life was a great call in theory but it’s been much harder than I expected. It’s been almost 3 years since my son’s birth and subsequent medical diagnosis. Navigating the condition, recurrent hospital stays and trying to be the best Mum I can be has been a process and one I’m still doing my best to juggle. The flowers He drowned - a poem by me. This poem takes heavy inspiration from @hozier (specifically songs such as Take Me To Church, and Foreigner's God) as well as the late Sinéad O' Connor. As an Irish person, seeing others speak out about the harm the Catholic Church as an institution (specifically the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland) has caused, and the hatred and harmful ideology it continues to spread, is incredibly encouraging and inspiring. I may only be 16, but I strive to make a difference during the course of my life, however long or short it will be. I refuse to be silent when I have seen both first and second hand the hatred (particularly towards members of the LGBTQ+ community / women) the institutionalised Catholic Church, as well as people outside of the church, spread, and the cruelty with which they treat those who identify or exist outside of what they believe to be 'normal' or 'acceptable.'
