All this while trying to keep a brave face amongst your super fit Flemish friends as they fly up and down the impossibly steep inclines. Repeat until 70-odd kilometers is done. A real test of sanity. Så blev det endnu engang fredag og dermed tid til en fredagsøl, som jeg har taget fra den gaveæske, der var præmien, da jeg for nyligt var en del af et ganske ok hold til DM i blindsmagning. Jeg faldt over en artikel på ale.dk, som gav mig lyst til lige at smage på varerne. (Link i kommentar) @chimay_official kræver næppe nogen stor intro for de fleste. Det er godt og klassisk trappistøl, der gør lige præcis, hvad.det skal, når man har skænket den slags. Den hvide er sog næppe del, som folk oftest skænker, uden at jeg kender tallene, så tror jeg, at den blå må være den, der går bedst i forhold til salg. Den hvide, som er en triple, er dog også ganske rar. Aromaen har en masse lidt udefinerbar frugt, men også noget krydret med en fornemmelse af gær og sukker. Det er som det skal være. Smagsbilledet byder på en indledende sødme med kandissukker, appelsinskal, både den søde og den bitre, lyst brød og så er der en krydret og tør afslutning. Jeg synes, som man kan læse, at det her er helt fint og ret velsmagende. Har I mon noget godt i glasset? Skål og god weekend derude. I går sagde @a_word_on_beers og jeg @ord_om_oel sammen med Steve fra Fanø Bryghus. Har du ikke allerede hørt dem, så vil jeg klart anbefale det.

This beer is just so good! This is the Red by @chimay_official , a 7% Belgian Trappist that is the first beer they ever brewed back in 1862. Releasing a new Trappist beer isn’t quite as simple as just brewing something new and putting it to market. To be recognised by the International Trappist Association as an Authentic Trappist Product, it must be on sale for a short period of time before the monastery builds a dossier on the product documenting community involvement, quality assurance, and production methods. A board member of the ITA then visits the site to ensure quality standards are being met. The results of this visit are then evaluated by the board, and voted upon, before the Authentic Trappist Product label is approved. A few weeks ago Tynt Meadow received approval from the board for their new Blond. Meet Sr. Pam, Trappist nun at Redwoods Abbey in Whitethorn, CA. Born and raised in a Protestant family, I’d been hearing the Gospel message all my life, but the retreat speaker in my sophomore year of college put it in such a way that God’s love came alive for me as it never had before. I lost my heart to God right then and there, and from that day on, I had to find a way to give my whole self to God. The usual Protestant options didn’t seem to fit; what I wanted was a whole way of life, not just a ministry career. I was a junior when it suddenly hit me: “I could be a nun.” But a nun was a woman who never married, a woman for whom God was Everything! It wasn’t until the Easter Vigil of my senior year, in the quiet after Holy Communion, that suddenly I knew beyond doubt: “I can’t get married: in my heart I’m already married to God.” There weren’t many options for Religious Life in the Protestant world, which led me after graduation to a Catholic parish and its R.C.I.A. class. I was delighted by what I found there: the same Gospel, people who loved God as crazily as I did, and a rich liturgical and mystical tradition. At the next Easter Vigil, I became a Roman Catholic. There were two contemplative monasteries near where I lived. I spent as much time as I could with both communities, until it became clear to me that while I admired the Benedictines, somehow I felt more truly at home with the Cistercians. The community accepted me, and so four years after that initial college retreat, I entered the Trappist Cistercian monastery of Our Lady of the Santa Ritas.
