Becoming a cleaner and starting up your own cleaning business is by no means a flashy way to make money, but a it's tried and tested method (just like my previous post about using your vehicle). The best part about this kind of side hustle is its ease of scale. You're in control and can take as many or as few clients as you wish. You can even hire others and expand if there are too many clients to handle yourself. There is a somewhat small/medium barrier to entry, however. You do need to ensure you have the right protection regarding insurance. You'll also likely need to purchase your initial set of cleaning supplies! Also worth remembering that certain cleaning takes require a qualification and/or special equipment. Here are some of the top paying FTSE 100 dividend stocks at the moment and how much you would need to invest in each to receive £100 in dividends! The company needing the lowest investment is Imperial Brands with £1288.23. A combined investment of £4161.51 would give you a very impressive combined dividend yield of 7.20% and would provide you with £300 worth of dividends across the year and beyond (providing they keep the same dividend yield). Another way of looking at what things really cost. If you're struggling with impulse spending, try to see it in terms of how much the item costs you in time instead of pounds. Our time is so precious and we will never get it back. If you earn £13 ph, something that costs £30 actually costs you almost 2 and a half hours of your time. This one, especially, during a time where food has become so much more expensive. Every pound saved makes a difference. - Always make a shopping list: make a strong effort not to divert from it. - Swap purchases to own-brand products. - Purchase off-brand medicines - the big medicine brands are ripping you off! - Buy in bulk - items such as: toilet roll, kitchen roll, pasta/rice, tea and coffee, etc, can be much cheaper when bought in bulk. - Freeze more food - the average household throws away ~£700 of food per year. Did you know you can freeze cheese? Fruit? Cooked rice? Pizza dough?! - Shop later in the evenings and take advantage of the reduced section/items. Personally, I need to start making more effort to get yellow-sticker food. I often panic about not being more intentional with my money sooner and I dread to think about how much I've lost in compound interest over the years. But it really isn't helpful to think this way. That time has gone and no amount of beating myself up about it is going to change things. But if, like me, you've started out late, all is not lost. Yes, of course it's better to start investing sooner but it is what it is and there's still time to make some serious impact. However, you need to be intentional and you will need to make sacrifices. You have to be prepared to invest your money and not spend it. Consistently. Now, I know not everyone has a spare £600 to invest every month but smaller amounts add up over time too. Investing £500 monthly will net you £560k. Or investing £250 each month (£62 per week) for 25 years will net you £280k. The above figures are based on a 9% return (the average stock market return is 9.2%) and of course your money can go up and down. You have to be prepared to leave your money in the market for the long-term in order to ride out the waves. I always get asked where I invest. I invest in Vanguard's LS100 index fund. You CAN be a low earner and build wealth, but managing your money well is essential. I paid off all of my debt on a dog walker's wage. I did it by drastically reducing expenses, cutting out things I didn't value or need and living BELOW my means, not just within my means. This allowed me to pay off my debt faster and now, allows me to invest. Increasing your income is also a great option. I took on matched betting (link in bio), started doing surveys online, selling unwanted things from around the home, and taking on more dog walks. Doing all of the above has helped me go from totally broke and drowning in debt to being able to live debt-free and having savings and investments. There is no magic wand; there are no secrets. You have to reign in the spending and live within your means. Happy weekend! How are you all doing? Another Side Hustle Saturday is here, and today it's all about stock photos. Being blind, I'm not exactly the best photographer in the world. But I have taken some really nice photos in the past, which I decided to upload to some of these stock image websites. Shockingly, they were bought! You won't get rich quick here, but you can definitely make some extra passive income in the side, with very little extra work required. Once it's uploaded, you don't need to do anything else. Just set and forget. It's worth noting that most of these sites require that your photos are AT LEAST FHD quality (1080p). Some, like Shutterstock, expect more. If there are people in your photo, be sure to get their consent before using it, also! Thankfully, though, most modern phones can take 4K photos and beyond. So you don't need to buy any expensive photography hardware. Next time you take an incredible action shot, or a close-up macro of a bumble bee covered in pollen... Consider copying them to a separate folder to be uploaded online later! ☃️APRIL DEBT SNOWBALL☃️ A nice sum for April. Gazelle intensity has largely helped, but I had one major challenge which decreased what I could have sent to debt the past few months overall. I’ll share more about that later. The actual total was £894.54. So the remaining amount for this month (£125ish) went to my “issue”. Also a good amount from the past months (£345) have been used on exam fees. So I am at least £470 behind the potential (more when I consider the issue over the past few months that I speak of) but still on base target. Happy weekend! How are you all doing? Another Side Hustle Saturday is here, and today it's all about stock photos. Being blind, I'm not exactly the best photographer in the world. But I have taken some really nice photos in the past, which I decided to upload to some of these stock image websites. Shockingly, they were bought! You won't get rich quick here, but you can definitely make some extra passive income in the side, with very little extra work required. Once it's uploaded, you don't need to do anything else. Just set and forget. It's worth noting that most of these sites require that your photos are AT LEAST FHD quality (1080p). Some, like Shutterstock, expect more. If there are people in your photo, be sure to get their consent before using it, also! Thankfully, though, most modern phones can take 4K photos and beyond. So you don't need to buy any expensive photography hardware. Next time you take an incredible action shot, or a close-up macro of a bumble bee covered in pollen... Consider copying them to a separate folder to be uploaded online later! Living at Home! I’m extremely lucky that whilst on this debt journey I still live at home with my parents. To be honest it’s the main reason I want to sort my debt out so I can move out. I spoke with my parents over the weekend and asked if I could decrease how much I pay them monthly to help me pay my debt off quicker! Whilst some might say this isn’t the responsibility of my parents I thought I would ask. I’ve been paying my parents rent since I was 18! Normally £200 a monthly and for about a year £300. I worked out in rent I’ve given them over £21k which is absolutely mind blowing! So they’ve agreed for 6 months I’ll reduce my rate to £100 and we will review again in October! I used to struggle with my finances, until this 👇🏻 Let’s rewind a few years, when I had a toddler and couldn’t work outside of the home. The best part about this kind of side hustle is its ease of scale. You're in control and can take as many or as few clients as you wish. Happy Friday! Thought it'd be interesting to find out how much the average Brit spends on the three most common discretionary expenditure. I was really shocked by the amount people spend on both nights out and on clothing. As I've gotten older, I don't go out anywhere near as often as I used to. When I do, I keep it as cheap as I can. It feels like a huge waste to spend money on something that makes me feel terrible the next day... Am I officially old? 😅 As for clothing, my wardrobe probably gets replaced once every 10 years or so. 😂 Honestly don't care for fashion (being blind probably helps). So long as I'm comfy and the clothes are in one piece, I have zero interest in replacing them! I think my money saving mind has worn off on my husband 🥰🤣 My husband has been on a stag do this weekend. He is best man, so he has also had to book and pay for it all. He has really impressed me! He’s come home today and told me: 🍺 He didn’t participate in any gambling when others were, as he sees it as a waste of money. 🍺 No unnecessary spending on meals. Where appropriate, he grabbed a meal deal, or something cheap, when others were spending money on lunches in restaurants. 🍺 Swapped between beer and Diet Coke on the last night (because he was driving the next day mainly) 🍺 Didn’t park in the premier inn recommended car park (which would have cost £54 for 2 days). Instead found a car park costing £16 for 2 days! 🍺 Decided to drive instead of the train or mini bus as it was much cheaper 🚗 🍺 Made the most of the unlimited premier inn breakfast (so he didn’t spend unnecessary money on food). When organising the stag he kept money in mind for everyone, as he knew some had less money than others. He made sure to book affordable activities and restaurants, which he did really well for everyone. Accommodation and activities were all booked in advance. So all that had to be paid for was food and drink! He also didn’t book anything until people had sent him the money. Very sensible and you never know peoples financial situations. This was my very first debt after becoming a working adult after uni many years ago (it was much more than this). Can you make a wild guess what it was for? It defaulted over 6 years ago so it’s interest free as it’s gone past the 6 year default period. That definitely helps, but it wasn’t fun going through that time period. This total is good but also sad to me. I had over 1K not even that long ago but took our money for my deposit and first months rent for my flat. I was gonna put over £700 back into savings this month, but instead used a lot of the money on things for the flat; including all of my savings challenge money on the moving van and my electric. Sad but at the same time the savings showed up for when I needed it! I’m glad I can still have this amount put away as it’s sizeable enough to fall back on if needed. Happy Friday! Thought it'd be interesting to find out how much the average Brit spends on the three most common discretionary expenditure. I was really shocked by the amount people spend on both nights out and on clothing. As I've gotten older, I don't go out anywhere near as often as I used to. When I do, I keep it as cheap as I can. It feels like a huge waste to spend money on something that makes me feel terrible the next day... Am I officially old? 😅 As for clothing, my wardrobe probably gets replaced once every 10 years or so. 😂 Honestly don't care for fashion (being blind probably helps). So long as I'm comfy and the clothes are in one piece, I have zero interest in replacing them! I'd buy more shoes if I were able to, though, but unfortunately I need a specialised shoe in one foot, so it's quite difficult to get new ones. 🙁 Did these surprise surorise you? Happy Sunday! Today's Saving Sunday is a simple - but effective - one. There's a LOT of free stuff out there. So if you're really struggling, then utilising any and all freebies available could save you a hefty sum. There are so many examples I've not even included in the image, because there are so many places to go. But one thing I want to mention, is competitions. Hope everyone is having a great bank holiday weekend! Here is a round up of the activity in the FTSE 100 this week with the biggest risers and fallers. Rising the highest was the bank standard chartered with a rise of 10.80%. This comes after reporting better than expected first quarter results, can this be a sign of better things to come for the bank in 2024 🏦 Falling the most was hiscox with no obvious reason as to why. The ex dividend date passed on Thursday which usually sparks a small fall. Be sure to mention any reason I have missed in the comments! I’ve been talking a lot about 9-5’s recently, and I thought it would be good to look at some pros and cons and open up the conversation! I’m not saying any job is better than another by the way - I’m of the view that it needs to work for you, your personality, the way you work, your lifestyle - as well as your monetary needs of course. I personally like having a 9-5 as well as running a biz and doing freelance work. But I appreciate that’s probably not what most people want to do 😂 I’ve tried all different avenues - full time self employed, full time employed, part time employed - and I’ve realised that I don’t like being at home all of the time. I need colleagues, I need to talk to people more and be out and about. I’m such a homebody, and a major introvert, so if you just looked at that on paper it wouldn’t make sense…that’s why I think it’s important to try things out and see what works best for you ☺️ Do you have a 9-5?
