Summer Rebuild ⚒ Thought I would do a post about what’s needed this summer. Pretty obvious that the style of football we’re gonna be playing will be different, so signings are definitely needed. Reckon something around the level of (minimum) six signings are needed. With our budget and outgoings, this is definitely achievable. Goalkeepers: The GK position is something we don’t really need to worry about. Areola is top class, definitely back him to be no1 next year. Despite his age, Fab should be able to cover for another season. Defence: Gutting our defence is definitely our priority. In terms of lb, think Emerson is a great option to stick with. Reports also suggest that Cresswell should be staying on another year. I think at least a couple of CBs are needed. Not too confident about Zouma playing a high line. Although Aguerd wants a move away, think he could do well under Lopetegui next year considering his pace and passing ability. I really highly rate Mavro, so trust that he stays. Despite that, an extra cb is needed. We’ll need to buy two if either Aguerd or Zouma leave. On the right it seems that Coufal will either leave the club, or take backup position going forward. In addition to Johnson almost certainly leaving, this makes signing a RB a top priority. Midfield: Holding midfield we look good. Alvarez is a top player, and we have options such as Potts and Downes who could come into the team if they impress pre-season. By what I’ve seen, Lopetegui likes playing a couple of technical attacking midfielders. I think Kudus could thrive in this role, much like the position he played at Ajax. The second midfielder should either be JWP, Earthy or a new signing. (Whatever happens with Paqueta’s charges, can’t imagine he’ll be playing at West Ham next year) Attack: On the right Bowen with Kudus as backup. Need I say more? On the left we desperately need a LW. Backup options like Cornet are always a possibility if liked by Lopetegui, but a top quality winger is definitely needed. Note that Kudus can also cover here. We. Need. A. Striker. End of the 23/24 Season ⚒ Thought we finished the year off with a decent performance yesterday. Was thinking it would be another battering once we went 2-0 early in the match, so credit to the lads for staying in the game. At the end of the day, we’re playing a very good team. Just makes me think that if we sorted out our defence, we would be such a good side. Highlight was of course the Kudus goal. Absolutely mental that man. We have to keep him at the club, and have full faith he’s only going to get better next year. No game is a boring watch when he’s on the pitch. Silver lining of the loss was Arsenal losing the title. Seeing Arteta and Co sulking made my day. 😂 Really sad about Moyes leaving. He’s been so good these past few years, just a shame it’s turned out this way in the end. Man City (A) ⚒ Not sure what to say about tomorrow. 😂 We’re already guaranteed 9th place no matter the outcome tomorrow. As much as I would love to see a final Moyes masterclass and beating City in their own backyard, that would mean practically handing the PL title to Arteta, Rice etc. Not ideal. Leaving that argument aside, I’m looking forward to watching a David Moyes West Ham team one last time. If we do end up losing, Man City are a very good team and deserving of the title. In terms of the lineup, I still want to see a strong team, so this is how i’ve picked it. Would be great to see Earthy and Casey get some more minutes, so wouldn’t mind if Moyes chose them to start. West Ham 3-1 Luton ⚒ Great to get a win today. Despite our regular occurrence of a shaky start, we pulled it back in the end with three great goals. Feels very good to send Moyes out on a high. Great performance as ever from Soucek, and what a goal that was. Does make me wonder whether Lopetegui will favour a player of Soucek’s style, but what can’t be denied is that the man has absolutely thrived under Moyes. Thomas is a player I would hate to see leave the club. Great to see JWP back on the form he produced at the start of the season. Kudus dropping yet another top, top performance. However, the best thing to come out of the game has to be George Earthy. Comes bouncing back from his incident at the Fulham game and scores with his first touch. Besides the goal, he looked tremendously good on the ball. Reminds me of of Declan when he made his way into the squad. No doubt there’s big things to come in a West Ham shirt for Earthy. If this was the last home game for Ogbonna and Cresswell, we gave them a good send off. Onto Man City 😂 ⚒

We’ve got to get behind Lopetegui ⚒ I’ve had a bit of time to think about our new manager. If you’d asked me earlier this week, I would’ve told you that this is a stupid appointment, no ambition, and at the end of the day is simply a lateral move from Moyes. I think I’ve now deluded myself into liking this new manager however. If he hadn’t been at Wolves already, there would be much more hype around him. The fact that he only finished 13th may seem bad, but looking back at his results he did manage to save them from relegation, and secure a few big wins at the end of last season. Bear in mind he wouldn’t have been able to fully implement is playing style under such conditions. What gets me most excited is his time at Sevilla. In La Liga only Madrid and Barca averaged more possession than his side. He won them the Europa League (could have been two if we didn’t knock them out), and played some good football. Despite his failings at Real Madrid, surely the fact that he was made coach of the biggest club in the world speaks of his quality. Lopetegui, whilst manager of the Spanish national team, went undefeated. Really difficult to predict what we’re going to get from him. But if we make some signings that he likes, get the team playing his way, we could be in for some good football next year. Have some faith in him ⚒ ⚒

The story of West Ham United Football Club has many influences in this sculpture, The Hammers, created by Mooch in 2008. The inspiration for the work was this quote; "The sound of the riveting gangs of the Thames iron works has gone forever, but the heritage is still celebrated today in the fans chant: Come on you Irons!" There are 11 steel hammers representing the football team, but each steel component is laid out on the plan of the upper deck of HMS Albion. When this ship was launched from the Thames ironwork in 1898, 38 people died, as the tidal wave, created by the launch, caused chaos for the spectators who were close to the water. Many of the deceased from this tragic event are buried in the cemetery next to the park. This artwork is a memorial to those victims, but also marks a once great local industry, and the craft of its workers are celebrated in the rivet details of the sculpture. It was good to look back and reflect on this ambitious landmark project in East London.
