A few shots from the driveway today. People probably think having just pots in a city driveway is a pretty poor gardening option, but I have come to think of it as having more environmental value than having a real garden in the country, where there is a lot of plant life anyway. So much of the city is tarmac (and in a place as densely populated as where I live, that's appropriate due to rodents building labyrinthine nests wherever they can find open ground 😐), so any plant life is appreciated. Anyway, the phlomis is doing very well on its second year, so I'm hoping it blooms. The cold frame is full of goodies, including chrysanthemums, pink verbascum, lupines and chard, some of which we should have for dinner tomorrow. I have just taken delivery of a moss rose, Alfred de Dalmas, and the wallflower is already blooming. #citygardening #alfreddedalmasrose #containergardening

We suggest planting the Alfred de Dallas in a location of your garden that does not get as much sunlight. However, we suggest altering your water schedule in this situation, as these moss roses will not need as much hydration as a moss rose that lives in full sun. 'Alfred de Dalmas', a perpetual moss rose from 1855, doing its best impression of a peony today and, a couple of weeks ago, of a water lily? It's a new rose to me, given to me by a friend who is redesigning her garden and had no place for it. I've been very impressed by how remontant and healthy it is. Why did I think it was a stingy bloomer and prone to fungal diseases? It's neither! It has been in bloom since I received it this spring, not even slowing down when I planted it in the ground. It's also been slowly building in size while continuing to bloom - a feat not many roses are able to do. To top it all off, it's been subjected to overhead watering from the nearby lawn's irrigation system, but the leaves have remained healthy without fungicide. So far, I can heartily recommend this rose to anyone who is considering growing it. And if you're not considering growing it, maybe you should! 😉 #alfreddedalmas #alfreddedalmasrose #antiquerose
