The arrangement made with the flowers cut from my small outdoor patio. The stems were a little short, and a few of them were at the verge of its end; It’s a little tricky getting them to hold in place working with a pin holder balanced on an uneven plastic bottle base that moves constantly (I didn’t stick it down). Because of the small collection of plants I have, the flowers were all flowering at different stages and I wasn’t certain if there will be a time where I can harvest them all to put it into an arrangement. I’m glad I manage to make something out of it. Granted, not all were grown from seed by me; but there were a few plants that I thrifted at discounted price when it wasn’t looking at its best, and cared for it through the harsh winter. Especially the geums, I had thought there was no hope after it turned brown over winter; I’m thankful that I held it out and didn’t bin it. I’m beginning to understand why people found it such a joy to grow their own flowers; even if it’s a little bit here and there. When I showed my husband what I was up to, he asked if I had already cut them or was it still in their pots. I guess I can say this is a successful garden inspired arrangement? Cutest pumpkin award goes to 🎃🥰☺️and with that 2023/2024 Naga Mini Pumpkin season is officially over☺️ Please note they're not supposed to be this tiny. But they're this tiny because they're from late side shoots that came out after I harvested the first pumpkins in January. Also note that my subtropical climate allow me to grow pumpkin in winter (any variety) I grew them at rooftop. Last year I got 2 pumpkins of this same variety from Rooftop,grown in same container(last 3 slides) This year I got 5 including all the tiny ones too(same variety,same container)☺️ I planted some in the ground too but it's too shady in winter,they took off when climate started warming up but by then the pests melon fruit fly started attacking every single female flower. I did try to bag some but I couldn't save any pumpkin. I love growing this pumpkin variety as it's vine is not as sprawling compared to bigger variety,which means I can grow them in a container too. The dense texture (gum as we call it locally) that holds together on cooking and the delicious taste of this variety is similar to all other Naga pumpkin varieties. I may be biased but Naga pumpkins taste amazing to me. And although I love experimenting with growing different non native varieties, this pumpkin will always be a regular in my garden ❤️ Next pumpkin season in my subtropical climate will commence from fall/ September (seed sowing). 🩵💙🩵💙🩵 These are the last of my Muscari (Grape Hyacinth) for this year, they’ve been great, they’re very dependable little spring bulbs. We get a lot of wind here and it’s caused a problem with some of my Ranunculus and Daffodils, but Muscari are tough little cookies and they’ve been just fine. April Wind Up Weekend. Almost through the first third of the year already. Random snippets from the weekend, including the bookend days. 1 - Strawberry flowers! So much promise... 2&3 - Gardening chores while attending a community board meeting via Zoom to save city composting: cleaning up pots and composting in place with last year's plant detritus. 4 - Redbud, still pretty, at the phase when the leaves emerge, chartreuse, right before they overtake the flowers. 5 - Newly bleeding hearts, against the backdrop of vibrant, but fading, tulips. 6 - Trey The Maple, trying on his leaves for size. 7 - First street fair of the season! Trying to finally get some summer crops out in the garden today. We are way behind due to life and its responsibilities as well as our big plant sale we do every year. I planted my personal tomatoes in my @epicgardening 4 cell trays which air prune and keep the roots healthy and prevent them from getting rootbound. This is great for us because we always get behind with planting, and other pots result in less healthy seedlings because of the roots getting all wrapped up at the bottom. These were never potted up and have been in the same spot since I planted them. Look how great the roots are! I need to upgrade to the 4" deep cells from these 3" deep ones since this is going to be the way I go moving forward for myself. No potting up. Way less maintenance. And no rush. Can't ask for better seedlings to transplant!

A few shots from the driveway today. People probably think having just pots in a city driveway is a pretty poor gardening option, but I have come to think of it as having more environmental value than having a real garden in the country, where there is a lot of plant life anyway. So much of the city is tarmac (and in a place as densely populated as where I live, that's appropriate due to rodents building labyrinthine nests wherever they can find open ground 😐), so any plant life is appreciated. Anyway, the phlomis is doing very well on its second year, so I'm hoping it blooms. The cold frame is full of goodies, including chrysanthemums, pink verbascum, lupines and chard, some of which we should have for dinner tomorrow. I’m SHOCKED at how well the @greenstalkgarden has been working. I received the Inventor’s Bundle earlier this month and carefully followed @greenlove121 ‘s tips for assembling it. The watering system has been working perfectly, and some of my starts have doubled in size already. Things to take into consideration when planting the perfect container... Variations in texture: Smooth hosta leaves, flowing lemon cypress and spiked echeveria add movement and interest. Variations in colour: From dusty orange calibrachoa, deep burgundy echeveria, lemon cypress and variegated hosta will keep your pots interesting when the flowers fade. Remember foliage is a colour too. Variations in height: A dwarf arborvitae lends height in addition to the coral bells and hosta while the calibrachoa and echeveria are of interest at the front of the container.
