This is #EloyGutierrezMenoyo he was an anti Castro dissident who first fought alongside Castro as leader of the Escambray Front. After the Revolution he became disillusioned like many others and then fought against Castro. Menoyo founded the infamous #Alpha66 and was later captured in 1964 by Cuban military. They placed a bag over his head and took him to Castros bedroom, there he was placed on his knees and confronted by a Fidel in pajamas who gloated and then jailed him for 22 years. After his release he founded Cambio Cubano and became known as un “dialoguero”. The Miami Cuban exile community turned on him because he wanted relations to normalize between the U.S. and Cuba knowing that it would benefit the Cuban people. Menoyo is not the only former Cuban political prisoner calling for dialogue, my father is one too. I have a lot of feelings about this news. First of all, I can't find it in me to be happy for the death of anyone. However, this is a moment most of my people have waited for, for a long times. His brother is now in charge- and with America putting its two sense into the mix I'm afraid for Cuba. I also get mad at those who didn't stay and fight the revolution- (like my parent) but now I wonder if I may ever be faced with the same thing here and what will I do if that time comes.
