I am now hooked on audiobooks! So now I switch from earphones to eyeglasses as I listen to and read books. I stayed up very very late to complete listening to The Good Daughters by @therealjoycemaynard. This spellbinding novel is about friendship, family secrets,and the strange unexpected twists of fate that shape our lives. Hey! I've been really hesitant about sharing my work. All these are original caricatures in pen and watercolor I submitted to Artistic Talent Group(Disney's 3rd party artists that do work in the parks). Long short, I didn't get the position I applied for.(we're on our 3rd rejection now folks and I'm still not giving up! ) Each attempt has been a good lesson in understanding the medium better. Watercolor is tricky and relearning all the things I learned in school has been hard(you forget the things you don't make a habit of). I've been putting new pieces in a journal and self critiquing, and understanding and studying what my work is missing when comparing it to the artists work in the parks. I was really in a place where I nearly considered giving up on art after my 3rd rejection. Finding the time and energy to make good work while being in a full time job has been hard. But I genuinely loved all the practice drawings and studies I got to do in order to make new things. Jon Sable, Freelance, from First Comics, may have been the first real Independent comic of which I was a true fan. Fun fact, I went and presented my awful, inferior, portfolio to First Comics in Chicago right after I graduated SCAD. FIRST went out of business right after that as I recall, so it worked out in my favor, I guess. But I will aIways remember reading Jon Sable late into the night on “comic book Fridays” in the 80s.
