Mixed media on 150x190cm paper. Took a painting course at school to challenge myself as I’m not much of a painter usually in my art practice and have quite the resistance to it. Lately been inspired by the physicality of abstract expressionism so after a couple of failed attempts to try and paint from ideas/dreams on more ‘regular size canvases I decided to just take a huge piece of paper and let myself just ‘do’ and ‘be’. Let the movements and my relationship with the colours unfold. Underneath the layer of this one there are layers and layers of other colours and expressions. Starting with a dull blue sky and a yellow sun over into all sorts of colours and movements and ending at this… for now. For years, whenever I’ve wanted to paint I’ve felt so restricted and uninspired and had this intense desire to paint big. Finally got to it. ☀️ Still got even clearer that painting is definitely not my favourite medium, it’s too flat and one dimensional, I feel boxed in and like I need to move outside the canvas, like life happens outside this little flat box and I can’t for the life of me try to fit into it or feel fulfilled inside it, but at least I’ve loosened up my resistances a bit and might explore this more… maybe I’ll change my mind.
