The Folk Alliance festival @folk_alliance brings together hundreds of musical artists from around the world who perform in banquet halls and conference rooms on the lower floors of a major downtown hotel. But for me, the quality that makes FAI truly extraordinary โ even eye-popping for many first timers - is the chance to head to far more intimate sessions, in dozens of hotel rooms that have been converted into makeshift concert spaces for after hours jam sessions. One part musical Worldโs Fair, one part my freshman college dorm, here attendees can listen to and connect with artists up close and personal late into the night (if 3:00 a.m. qualifies as late). This weekโs Artist Who Inspires is indie-folk-pop ensemble @banditsontherun! Hailing from Brooklyn, the trio formed in a chance encounter while playing in the NYC subways. Theyโve gone on to perform at multiple festivals and outdoor concerts, including Levitt AMP Littletonโs Music Series this past summer. In 2021, the group released the album Now is the Time, featuring the song โSheโs the Queenโโa tune about the power of unconditional love and support.
