Julia and I knew each other as kids, both growing up in the Buddhist community in Halifax and attending @suncampofficial as teens. This piece was a beautiful opportunity to reconnect 💙 "Bending, breaking through explores a continual path from one state into another, focusing up close on what is in-between as these movements unfold. Sounds are stretched, suspended, and pushed into different folding and unfolding. What came before is imprinted into the new; no matter how different, subtle strands extend and emerge throughout these transformations." Composer Julia Mermelstein blends electronic soundscapes and choreography into performances that create a space for introspection and the surreal. We are continuing the countdown until the exhilarating live finale of the 2024 CAG Louis and Susan Meisel Competition with another Finalist Spotlight. Today’s featured finalist is the impressive cellist Leland Ko! (@lpkocello) Leland, a cellist of Chinese-Canadian descent, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in venues across America’s east coast, such as Merkin Concert Hall and Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in New York, and Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, and Sanders Theatre in Boston, as well as internationally in Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Israel, and Spain! Most recently, Leland has won first prizes at the 2023 inaugural Boston Concert Artist Society auditions, the 2023 National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Competition, and the 2023 Hong Kong Generation Next Arts International Music Competition. The next concert week at @filarmonicaenescu was marked by the spicy harmonies 🌶 and dreamy melodies ✨ of modern armenian music 🇦🇲 but also the expressive power of the russian romantism 🇷🇺. It was such an honor to play Khachaturian's storytelling violin concerto with the famous romanian virtuoso 🇷🇴 #mihaelamartin. She displayed great mastery of sound colors 🎶, with a rich variety of dynamics and articulation, but also playing those dreamlike cantilenas as if she were some painter of the middle-east night sky 🎇. The american born conductor of armenian and russian descent @constantineorbelian completed the repertoire with the joyful and energic Festive Overture 🎉 by Arutiunian and Tchaikovsky's adventurous 5th symphony. He brought great fun to the orchestra and trusted completely the musicians to just do their thing 👌🏻. This way, we felt so good that we just had to do our best for our audience 💯. I know it’s unhealthy but the only time I feel no guilt for taking time off is when I have no choice. On Thursday, I underwent a biopsy (4 to be exact 😅) that turned out to be more unpleasant than I had anticipated, so cleared my schedule for the weekend to rest. I finally got the time to sleep in, work on my Lego backlog while binging TV shows with no guilt and no pressure! As far as biopsy results, they’ll come in a week and it’s something I’ve been dealing with since 2020 so not a surprise- but may affect some personal plans. But, there’s no point in overthinking it for now! After the first scare 4 years ago, I vowed to find more balance in my life. I feel like I’ve improved a lot, saying no to more things, but I realize I need to adjust even more and I’m grateful for the reminder. 🤍 Normally, even when I take time off, it’s exhausting with “days off” involving driving around running errands, trying to catch up on as much as possible outside of work, meal prepping, cleaning, catching up on admin, or doing as many things as possible while on vacation. As much as I love exploring, it’s so hard to just relax and do nothing “productive.” It’s ridiculous but I felt a wave of relief wash over me while on the way home from the procedure feeling rather terrible and realizing I needed to reschedule my weekend recording sessions- turned to Harley and proclaimed “Omg I can finally build my Legos!” I built my Mandalorian Starship (Christmas 🎁 from my brother 2 years ago) & PAC-man set (gift from Harley over a year ago) over the past 2 days! Yes, I still feel kind of “productive” since I’m making something but I love it and something I do purely for my own fun and not an activity I have monetized 😂 Love, Lego Potato 🥔

KÖRPERSAITEN Tanzprojekt von Natalie Wagner in Zusammenarbeit mit den Tänzer:innen der Tancompagnie In der Tanzproduktion »Körpersaiten« entsteht ein Gesamtkunstwerk zwischen den Tänzer:innen, dem Publikum und der Musik. Alles ist miteinander verbunden und wird zueinander in Beziehung gesetzt. Die Tänzer:innen begegnen sich und dem Publikum auf der Basis verbildlichter Rhythmen. Das geschieht mal in Solos, Duetten und mal im Kollektiv, die Resonanz des Publikums als eigenständiges Element der Performance aufnehmend. Dabei entwickelt sich die Choreografie aus sich selbst heraus weiter und bleibt prozesshaft – work in progress. Durch die leichte und ungezwungene Interaktion mit dem Publikum wird verdeutlicht, dass wir alle in die Choreografie des Lebens miteinbezogen sind und zusammengehören. Die unsichtbare Wand zwischen den Tänzer:innen und dem Publikum existiert nicht (mehr). Auf beiden Seiten und zwischen beiden Seiten findet ein nonverbaler Austausch statt. Several friends and I were inducted into the Tri-M music honor society, thenI somehow managed to snag two perfect scores at NYSSMA solo festival for cello and All State voice, my first attempt with that one. I am excited to announce that Janice Adams is joining our instructor team at Elements Music Studio! We are thrilled to have her! Below is her bio: Janice Adams began playing violin at age 11. Her desire to make music her career became apparent in high school. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Miami University, Oxford Ohio. She took violin lessons from Elizabeth Lane, Miami University, Andrew Lisko, Capital University, and John Smarelli, former concert master of Springfield Symphony Orchestra. Janice played in the Springfield Symphony for many years. Janice furthered her music skills by taking cello lessons from Dr. Daniel Kazez, Wittenberg University. She taught music in public and private schools for 32 years. Since 2017 Janice has been teaching private lessons on violin, viola, and cello through the Center for Musical Development at Wittenberg University. Janice lives in central Ohio with her husband. Her hobbies include gardening, jigsaw puzzles, reading historical fiction, and travel. Janice loves sharing her passion of music through private lessons.
