Also, I love the fact that it has SPF in it for the added sun protection. It did not feel heavy or cakey on my skin and covered blemishes nicely, which is what sold me! I struggle with combination to oily skin especially in my t-zone and with the short period I wore it my makeup looked fresh. I do need to do a longer wear test to see how it holds up all day because I always end up shining through. It blends well and sits on the skin nicely, giving a beautiful natural matte finish. I’m very impressed with her! 👌🏽 This reformulation is so much better! It’s loaded with 87% skincare including sugar kelp extract to control oil along with red algae extract and hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin over time. The new pump feature is easier to use. Rephr Eye Collection MINI - when I saw these launch last year, I really wanted to try them out. But due to other priorities , I had to miss out. So when they restocked them recently AND had them in their concept store for 50% off, I was like ok universe, I hear you! These are mini versions of their best selling 01, 02, 13, 14, and 15 eye brushes. All these brushes are handcrafted in Kumano, Japan using sokoho and saikoho hair. I love small brushes for detail work on the eye. Some of my favorites are the rephr 13 and 14 and the Sigma 27 and 33 I cannot wait to get these washed and play with them. The MINI 01 and 15 are exciting. The 13 for buffing out under the eye! Oh my. I also picked up another 04 blush brush (my 3rd). If I buy multiples of the same brush, you know it's good. I love using the 04 brush with my Patrick Ta blushes. So gorgeous. Rephr sells these brushes in their concept store at a discount. All they ask is that you provide feedback on the brushes/products you buy. This is how we got the refined version of their Light Hydration Cream 2.0. I did try the older version. It had a tad too much dimethicone feel for me. I and many others stated that in our feedback, and now we have this refined version that has less dimethicone in it. I must say I really like this version so much more. It is a fragrance free light but a very hydrating moisturizer that plays well with my other skincare, sunscreen, and makeup. I want more of this. Plus, it came with a tube wringer thingy that will help you get every drop out of the tube. I went to Fueguia 1833 and bought nothing. There was just too much to smell and there wasn’t anything in particular I was looking for. But the store was beautiful, and it was nice that all the scents are presented with glass bowls so you could pick them up and smell the scent inside, instead of spraying directly from the bottle.

Another day, another Sephora order. I went a little craycray on this Sephora Savings Event. Do not give me 10 days to shop, man, don't do it. I took advantage of the 30% off of the Sephora Collection to pick up a few more Pro brushes #93 blush brush and another #71 concealer brush (if I'm buying another, you know it's good). I also tried the new Sephora Collection matte blush in 01 Golden Gateway. It is not completely matte. I can detect some minor sheen, which is not a bad thing. It does have a heavy moisturizer scent. Not a fan of that. But I really do like the color/tone on me, plus its buttery (almost creamy?) and blends beautifully. I also picked up another Rouge Gel lip liner in Sink or Suede - a cool tone pinky beige. Ever since trying Patrick Ta's Not To Much blush duo, I had to get another. I snagged She's Flushed and she is beautiful! 😍 she is truly aptly named - a toasty flush on the cheeks. Gorgina! I am a TA convert! Lastly, for this haul, 🙄 another Tower28 concealer in 7 KTOWN. I love love this concealer and wanted one that I could use on my face as an all-over base. That's how much I like this concealer. A moment of vulnerability- this is the first book I’ve finished in years. It still feels embarrassing to say. But in sharing this I want to let go of these feelings and lean into self-compassion. A few years back, a good friend and fellow PhD named it- our brains are likely traumatized from years (decades!) of academic reading, writing theses, dissertations. That fit for me. Like when we finally finished and got a break from it all, our brains kind of went on strike. A lengthy paragraph of text triggered a cognitive shut down. My brain was done. Throw in motherhood, a pandemic, migraines— I’m learning to let my brain off the hook. But a recent shift- it felt like the time was right. March Break guided me to the library, telling me the bandwidth has reopened. That I was ready to recreate space for my love of reading. And what a beautiful book to start with! In the Distance is about a Swedish immigrant who finds himself alone on the wrong coast of America, travelling proverbially upstream against a flow of pioneers and gold rush opportunists. It speaks to isolation, disillusionment, and resilience. The prose mimics the landscape of the terrain and of the protagonist’s mind- sometimes urgent, often monotonous- always wondrous. Some of the most heart wrenching moments are captured in a few mere sentences- brief pauses for grief amid the vastness that becomes his life. Getting back to reading feels like home in many ways. And also a sign that my brain might be recovering from decades of pressure towards high achievement. All good signs of healing. You’re not alone if you’ve needed time away from something you love, in the name of mending some sore spots ❤️
What I got so far from the Sephora sale ... 🤭 I sort of impulse bought this Sephora Favorites Clean Me Up kit. I was already going to pick up the Lawless Forget The Lip Filler lip gloss in Velvet, but then I saw it in this kit and was like Ermahgerd, this is mine now.LOVE LOVE IT I really like the Tower 28 mascara, so I was really interested in trying the brown mascara. It looks so good. LOVE IT. The Kulfi eye liner in Cheeky Chiku is a super long-lasting creamy brown. This is really not going to budge until you wash it off. LOVE IT The Saie Glowy Supergel in Sunglow blew my mind. It is a beautiful bronzy gel that smooths on so nicely. I was kinda gagged. First, I thought it was Starglow and was all blase about another highlighter. But this surprised me at how bronzing it was without going full Magda bronze. SUPERDUPER LOVE IT I also like the Amika overnight hair mask. It does leave your hair feeling soft and healthy. The only thing I haven't tried out was the mini of the YTTP Superfood cream, but I am sure it is awesome, too. If this set comes back in stock and you love brown bronzy goddess, then I do say this kit is a great value and you won't regret it. I really can't wait for the rest of my goodies to get here. They now come in a PCR packaging, which is a little kinder to the environment and has a small footprint compared to their previous aluminum packaging. I'm super excited about this new packaging, as the aluminum had a tendency to dent in shipment and I often had issues with the pumps not working as they should. Tonight is the final class of my beginner ballet course and I wanted to reflect back on what the experience has taught me. Reclaiming activities that I didn’t get to do as a child is a big trip, as is starting something brand new as a 40-year-old. Here’s what I’ve noticed: ✨Allowing myself for be an absolute beginner at something feels like really good therapy. Embracing awkwardness and uncertainty seeks like an excellent mandate for this period of my life ✨ I’m probably more of a perfectionist than I’d like to admit. I can definitely feel uneasy when I don’t get a move *just right* even though I just learned it 2 minutes ago 🫠 ✨ This course was never about mastery. That’s impossible after only 7 hours of any skill. When I let that go, I realize that I’ve learned a whole bunch and can build on it in the future as well ✨ The experience can still feel surreal at times! Doing something you’ve always dreamed of can definitely elicit some *pinch me* moments ✨Despite increased confidence over the past years, I can certainly still feel self-conscious about being the awkward, uncoordinated fat person in class. I can put undue pressure on myself to prove that plus size folks can be strong and agile and flexible… which just keeps me in my head! I have nothing to prove! ✨In case you weren’t aware, ballet is harder than it looks! Just holding the proper posture is a checklist of engagement. Someone once said that ballet was like making the impossible look easy, and that definitely resonates! ✨ I’m really proud of myself. I can do hard things! I can feel lost and keep on going. ✨ I really do love to dance and want to continue with it moving forward 💃🏼🩰

It felt somehow satisfying to wear black lace and neon yellow tulle amid a sea of white wedding dresses. If I ever renew my vows, I might have to spice things up sartorially 🖤🌼 It was nice to remind myself that @loversland carries a wide range of fashion aside from bridal. It’s a gorgeous shop. I can't even begin to thank you all enough for your kind thoughts on my last post and I'm sending the biggest virtual hugs to those who can relate. I promise to respond as I'm emotionally able to. ❤️ We're hurting and it's a big loss for us. I'm doing what I can to find some daily "normalcy" again, but it is and will be a slow process. I'm not ready to make almost daily content yet and won't push it, nor can I promise which days will be easier vs. raw and emotional. I have felt so guilty for allowing myself any "easy" day or small joyful moments and I'm trying to battle that guilt. We're going to start with small doses. Today, it's a mixed bag of emotions but I'm going to try my hardest to lean into positives! So I'm going to find joy in one of the things that I love - perfume. I'd say smell is probably my favorite sense, because I wholeheartedly tether people, occasions, and specific periods of my life to certain scents and smells. It's instant nostalgia. I am lucky to have received this perfume to review and I'm grateful there has not been a great push at delivering my thoughts quickly and within a set deadline because I hadn't been ready to post again yet and it would have felt too soon and very forced for me. This is giving me a slow toe dip into the waters again. Clean Reserve Nectarine Petal is part of @cleanbeauty_collective's new H2Eau Collection, which is an interesting concept. They are inspired by water and water-based. They are alcohol free and gentle on sensitive skin. I found it lasted about six hours on my skin. This specific scent is a fruity floral and while it's obviously nectarine, I was most excited about the peach blossom notes. I would say this leans more floral than fruity, but it's pretty balanced. This is a nice light scent that smells like spring in a bottle. The rollerball works smoothly and perfect for throwing in your bag on the go! @naturiumskin is finally in @shoppersdrugmart ! I've heard such good things about the glow getter body wash that I had to test it out. . First off I love how it comes in a pump. Makes it easy to use in the shower. The luxe oil easily turns into a foamy lather and smells exactly like buttered popcorn. 🍿 After washing it off my skin feels moisturized but not greasy. This is great for those with dry skin or dry spots. The price point is very high for a body wash but I'm enjoying it so far!

Perfume I bought in Italy. If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll see that these are all old favourites. I sold my partial bottle of Coromandel a couple of days before I left and then got a new one. I got a 4ml bottle of Le Lion with my purchase and I’ll enjoy that for a while. Meharees by L’Erbolario has a scent profile similar to Musc Ravageur, but slightly sweeter and more feminine. Easy to wear. Again, I’d bought a bottle but gave away my partial knowing I’d be able to get a new one. I also grabbed a couple of the body washes. They don’t smell that strong in the shower but an hour after getting out of the shower I can still get whiffs of Meharees even though I’m not wearing any perfume. Melograno by Santa Maria Novella is still my favourite from the brand and I was able to get a sample of L’Iris so I can enjoy it slowly. I had a longer list of things I wanted from SMN but they hadn’t updated the bottles on all of them and I didn’t want the old style bottles. Melograno is like clean white powdery hotel soap. It’s fresh and easy to wear. I love it in the summer. The prompt for Monday morning was something easy (post time-change, early commute with the kiddo), but fun, as I had the day off to be out and about. I landed on this combo- my @marahoffman popcorn crop top and @hoibo wool pants. My @esxenceofficial recap continues. I stayed at the Melia Milano, which is the closest 5-star hotel to the venue. It happens to be reasonably priced for a 5-star hotel and is within walking distance from the metro and bus stop. There’s even a direct bus to and from the Malpensa airport that comes right to the square close to the hotel. The room was neat, the lobby was sparkling, the lounge was comfortable, and the food was delicious. Because it’s so close to the convention, there were a lot of brands and attendees that were also staying there. Because there were spacious places to sit and socialize, it was a good place to meet for a drink or a bite to eat. There’s not much happening in that part of town, so I think the hotel bar and restaurant receiving a lot of traffic. Many people said that staying near the Duomo was a better place to stay so that you’re near the attractions, but I’ll say that if you’re attending Esxence, this is the most convenient place to stay. It’s easier to pop back and drop your stuff off, and then head out to wherever you want to go. There was even a day that I came back for lunch and to rest, and then ended up back at the convention again. Would I give my stay a 10/10? Cultural appropriation or cultural appreciation? Official descriptions for Diptyque’s Eau Duelle range from “an ode to travel” to “ inspired by a journey along the Spice Route and the ports of legendary cities: Babylon, Goa, Venice and Carthage.” The picture on the back reminds me of the Taj Mahal but maybe it’s just Mughal architecture, and many examples of it are found in North India rather than the South which is where Goa is. I already know there will be people who say it’s appreciation, and I get that, it’s one of the reasons I like this bottle, but the mishmash of places and stories without being true to history is pointless in a world where the Internet exists and you can look things up in an instant. Eau Duelle is a vanilla scent, slightly spicy and green, woodier than other vanilla, but it’s still vanilla. It’s not a scent I’d associate with the “spice route”. The number of brands that still use “oriental” as a descriptor is many, and truly, it’s a lot of older gentlemen who probably know better but are used to describing warm and spicy scents that way. I can overlook that because truly there is no motivation to change. All of this reminds me of a conversation I had with my aunt and uncle who work to get women on corporate boards across America, and who told me that the real way to get people and corporations to make a change is to legislate it, so maybe in the perfume world, maybe a body, like I don’t know, perfume expo organizers, need to insist that brands stop using that in their copy when they bring material to display at the show.
