Another old favourite got to the table but as we didn't have a huge amount of spare time it was just the base game of Carcassonne with the river. This game never fails to deliver. This is such a great game and is probably one of the games that introduced tile laying to us. This is one of our favourite mechanisms and when combined with polyominos makes it even better. Wir sammeln fleißig Perlenkarten mit Zahlenwerten von 1-8. Mit diesen können wir uns Magische Wesen (Charakterkarten) holen. Diese bringen uns Siegpunkte und oft kleine, nützliche Effekte wie eine dauerhafte Zahl oder ein höheres Handkartenlimit oder einem Gegner eine Karte klauen etc. So zielen wir auf gute Synergien ab, um effektiver als alle anderen die Siegpunkte einzusammeln. 🪄 Meinung Ehrlich gesagt, die Symbolik auf den Karten, puuh, weder intuitiv noch schön. Aber dieser flotte Ablauf mit 3 Aktionen nach Wahl pro Zug macht total viel Spaß. Dieses kleine Engine Building - richtig cool. Schnell einfachere Charaktere anwerben oder die schweren Dinger mit 4 oder 5 Siegpunkten? Wenn es alle drauf haben, spielt man das zu viert in unter 30 Minuten runter. Für mich hat es irgendwie Splendor Vibes. Zumindest hat es genauso viel Thema, also Null... Auf den Karten sind dennoch nette Anspielungen auf bekannte Fantasy-Akteure, von Rotkäppchen über den Phönix bis Conan. Jedoch ist die Grafik jetzt eher bieder, 2015 Style halt. I’m relatively new to La Granja and had my first play of it just last year when this kickstarter delivered. I had vaguely heard of it before backing and I’m bummed I waited so long to try it out. Despite all the moving pieces, it’s relatively simple to play. Perhaps my absolute favorite part is the multi use cards and I kind of wish there was a little more card play involved. Deciding how to use them whether it be as delivery contracts, resource fields, pig pens, or workers, is always a tough choice to make. The dice drafting is quick and light. I like that everyone gets the opportunity to do one final action together when there’s one die left over. There’s also some mild area control as you deliver goods to the central market knocking off any adjacent neighbors that made a delivery of lesser value than you. There’s a little bit of everything in La Granja but they flow together nicely. I was slightly let down with the production, though, as the box was flimsy and the insert just… doesn’t make sense. It’s almost too big for the box leaving scratches along the way as you pull them out. Thank goodness for the different mechanics that absolutely save my experience when bringing this out to play. Now I’m curious to try El Burro!
A board game we’ve recently added to our collection is Fractured Sky by @iv___games and @iv___studio 💠. We were very excited to try this one and last weekend we’ve managed to get our first play in 😎. So far we’ve only played it at 2 players which we believe is a good place to start and get a feel for the game and the different actions you can perform 😉. Playing at 2 you also need to include an AI opponent which is fairly easy to control. The only downside is that after a couple of rounds the AI becomes a little predictable which you can use to your advantage 🙈. While we still need more plays to fully grasp all the different strategies you can employ, we were already impressed with the game after our first play 🤩. We’re also looking forward to future plays with 4 and hopefully 5 players because we’re pretty certain this is where Fractured Sky will shine the brightest 💠. 🇬🇧 Card games are regularly on the table here and we often play them when we play with others. We therefore always enjoy discovering new titles. Ecosystem Coral Reef by @gotgeniusgames is one of those, the sequel to Ecosystem, but with new animals and scoring options. 🪸 In this card drafting game you try to create the most favorable ecosystem possible by placing the right animals in the right place. You build a 4x5 grid and it plays very fast and smoothly. Although the mechanisms and game principle have been used in games before, it is an entertaining game. 🪼 This week I’ll be playing it at the weekly game night, so we’ll see how we like it there. On inscrit alors les chiffres ou les symboles des 3 dès, dans 3 cases adjacentes, sur notre feuille. Ce groupe peut être placé n'importe où. Il faudra pour gagner faire des groupes de cases de mêmes chiffres que le dès (une zone de 4 cases remplit du chiffre 4 par ex.). La réalisation de ces groupements de cases ou pièces nous permettra par la suite d'obtenir des bonus et de marquer des points. Les chats et les souris auront leur propre scoring et bonus selon le niveau de jeu choisi. 🐀 House of Cats propose une variété très appréciable avec 4 niveaux de jeux et leur propre fiches prévues dans la boite et une panoplie de bonus qui rendront chaque partie différente. 🧀 Il y a de la profondeur dans ce jeu avec un côté foncièrement puzzle et optimisation qui m'a beaucoup plu. 🏡 Côté thème (comme gameplay) c'est assez épuré. Halls of Hegra is a solo-only, worker placement wargame, with a similar feel to titles like Robinson Crusoe. You play as Norwegian forces trying to defend the Hegra mountain fortress from German invaders in 1940. First things first, this game is fantastic and might end up being one of the best solo games I’ve ever played. Whilst I knew absolutely nothing about this historical event, I found the mechanics did a fantastic job of immersing me in the theme. Each round you recruit new soldiers and volunteers to your cause (via bag building) and then proceed to place these workers in a variety of spots on the board. These actions include going out on supply runs, digging out snow (to possibly reveal new worker action spots), repairing the fortress, defending the wall, and so on. Each turn there are a dozen jobs that need doing, so you have to make the agonising decision of what to ignore each round. Despite the initial concern that this would be hard to learn, the rules are fairly straightforward after a few rounds. It also helps that Hegra has perhaps the best rulebook I’ve ever read; you can just follow the steps each round and the book guides you through everything you need to know. The difficulty factor however, is very high, and as the rounds progress you will find yourself trying to balance several grenade-filled plates. The board aesthetic is superb (the photos don’t do it justice) and it really conveys the feeling of a Norwegian officer sat at their cluttered desk, desperately trying to make defensive plans. Pillars of Heracles by @apeirongames takes us back in time, in Ancient Greece, where city-states compete with each other in order to rewrite history and earn glory! Gameplay Overview In Pillars of Heracles players take on the roles of city-state leaders in ancient Greece. The goal is to create the most glorious city and there are many ways to achieve that. Each city starts small but can expand by exploring and settling other areas, deploying and commanding units, constructing buildings and monuments, recruiting the right people and acquiring various upgrades. Glory is earned through monuments, territory control and completing prophecies. The leader of the city-state with the most glory at the end of the game is the winner. The game simulates all of the above through various game mechanisms. There is a rondel for taking various actions during the game. The people that make up each city-state are represented by cards and each player starts with the same deck of ten cards but can improve that by acquiring more cards so there is a deck building element there. There is some exploring and of course the units will be moving around the map. Area control is important throughout the game and even though there is no combat in the standard version of the game, you can play the skirmish mode if you’d prefer direct confrontation. The upgrades are represented by advancing on tracks by spending resources and you can also spend resources to construct buildings and deploy new units. Lastly, there is some asymmetry in the player abilities through the city-state tiles. The game has no set amount of rounds. Players keep taking turns in clockwise order until the end game is triggered. After that, the current round finishes and one more is played before proceeding to scoring. Each player turn consists of 2 phases: 1. The Status Check phase. This is mostly a check for area control in certain regions in order to gain benefits. (Part 2 in the comments)

🇳🇱 🇧🇪 In 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐬 van @hig_games maken we elk onze botanische tuin om indruk te maken op onze bezoekers. Bij de start van het spel krijgen we elke ons eigen tuinbord. Daar plaatsen we onze tuinman op, op het startveld. Naast de startobjectieven per rij mogen we ook de geavanceerde objectieven plaatsen. Deze objectieven gaan over het verkrijgen van bepaalde combinaties bloemen in die rijen. De spelersvolgorde wordt bepaalt door wie bovenaan staat in de kolom op het actie selectiebord. Als je aan de beurt bent, mag je eerst je tuinman verplaatsen, maar dit kost je munten. Je mag ook 1 kaart uitspelen voor zijn voordeel. Kaarten kan je gedurende het spel op verschillende plaatsen verdienen. Daarna neem je je actiesteen, in de vorm van een bloemfiche, en verplaatst je die naar de volgende kolom, naar de gewenste actie. Hoe hoger in de kolom je gekozen actie staat, hoe minder krachtig. Maar dan heb je wel meer kans om de volgende ronde eerder aan de beurt te zijn. Sommige kolommen heb maar 1 actie, andere 2. Bij een kolom met 2 acties zet je je fiche op de niet gedrukte actie. Want als iemand nadien dezelfde actie wil doen, kan die dit door 3 munten te betalen en bovenop je fiche te komen liggen. Maar de niet gedrukte actie is dan niet zichtbaar en wordt dan ook niet uit gevoerd. Voorbeelden van acties zijn bvb: bloemen plaatsten. Bloemen plaats je altijd aangrenzend aan je tuinman en komen in 4 niveaus. Met de gieter kan je bloemen laten groeien, van niveau laten stijgen. Je kan ook vooruit op het muntenspoor, kruiwagenspoor en plantspoor om voordelen te krijgen. Kom je op het einde van het zonspoor dan krijg je bonuspunten en ga je terug naar het begin. Ook kan je munten krijgen en je tuinman verplaatsen. Heb je tegen het einde van het spel een volledige kolom met bloemen dan zal je ook nog bonuspunten scoren. Na 2 keer het volledige actiespoor te hebben afgelopen, krijgen we nog elk een stap op een van de 3 sporen en tellen we de punten. Wie maakt de mooiste tuin? Over 3 epochs you will be inventing new technologies, grabbing territories, developing your culture and preparing for possible military conflict. Only the most successful civilization will be deemed victorious, so you better be the most cunning and wise leader! 💪 Epochs boasts a full 4X gameplay experience: 👇 🧭You have eXploration, as you will be exploring the randomly generated map each game. Interestingly this won’t happen through actions, instead each turn a new tile is turned face up, forming the landmasses you can occupy. 🚩You have eXpansion, as you can expand out to adjacent hexes, claiming lands with your cubes or building cities on intersections between cubes. 🏙️ Cities are an important source of victory points and income, but you will need to be able to feed the growing population in each epoch. ⛏️You have eXploitation, as you can control the strategic and luxury resources out on the map, or use specific terrain types to trigger the bonuses of your inventions. Raising your supply and demand 📦 is a good tool to secure yourself some valuable income. ⚔️Last but not least there is eXtermination, as there is combat in the game. This is somewhat abstracted though, there will be no troop movements on the map. Instead players will be able to conquer neighbouring enemy land or cities. Everyone can have a main unit card and a support unit card to raise their military prowess, gaining raw power and bonus dice 🎲 on certain conditions. Auf der SPIEL.doch gespielt 🇩🇪/🇬🇧: ´ne Tüte Chips (@huch_games ) 🇩🇪Na, das ist ja mal eine innovative Verpackung! Das Spiel kommt tatsächlich in einer Tüte Chips daher. Und auch die restlichen Spielmaterialien erinnern stark an die Knabberei. Im Prinzip geht es darum zu raten, welche Chips so nacheinander aus der Tüte gezogen werden. Die Chips haben nämlich unterschiedliche Farben, manche davon sind öfter vertreten, manche seltener. Und darauf wetten wir mit unseren Wettkarten. Je unwahrscheinlicher die Wahrscheinlichkeit, desto mehr Punkte gibt es, wenn die Wettkarte doch erfüllt wird. Und eine Karte wählen wir auch noch aus, die nach unserer Meinung auf keinen Fall erfüllt wird. Stimmt das, ist alles gut, ansonsten gibt`s Minuspunkte. Insgesamt eine super Idee, das Spiel macht Spaß und die Verpackung ist einfach nur toll. Leider derzeit nicht verfügbar. Basically, the aim is to guess which chips will be pulled out of the bag one after the other. The chips have different colours, some of which are more common, some less common. And that’s what we are betting for with our betting cards. The less likely the probability, the more points are awarded if the betting card is fulfilled. And we also select a card that we believe will never be fulfilled. If this is correct, everything is good, otherwise there will be minus points. All in all, a great idea, the game is fun and the packaging is just great. Unfortunately not available at the moment. Overview: Space Lions is a hand management lane battling game for 2-5 players, with elements of skirmish and bluffing. In the game, each player will pick a faction to play as well as one special leader for their faction (which will allow that card to be a super charged version of that character). Factions have variable player powers making each faction play slightly differently with the end goal being to win the most battles to the left or right of you or in the center of the area where all factions may fight. Pros: -Typical lane battlers I have played only allow for two players at a time, however, Space Lion offers a five player experience. -Player only play 4 cards per round, and then will not receive those cards back to play until the a later round, as they go into a cool down period. This allows for interesting hand management choices. - Discarding cards for special powers can offer some serious benefits, but can be risky allowing for interesting decision space. - The game can be pretty quick as long as no one gets AP. Cons: - I found the rule book to be a little hard to follow (this could have been a me thing, but I was confused originally as to when to take the cards back into my hand); luckily there are some great online rules explanations provided by the publisher. - We found the Lion faction to feel a bit overpowered due to the fact they can get cards back between rounds which is one of the major parts of the game. - Due to the fact that the lead player picks the battle order, there can be turns were it feels like you did nothing at all; which if it happens over and over can feel super frustrating. Overall verdict: My recommendation would be to try before you buy on this one. I know there are plenty of people who this game will be right up their ally, for example people who enjoy punching card games such as BattleCon or Exceed. Keep, Cull, or Classroom Library: This one will not stay in our collection, but I already have the perfect home for it. SPIELDOCH 24 Dortmund 🎲 Dieses Jahr konnten wir die Messe leider nur am Freitag besuchen, was aber bei der Größe auch ausreichend war 🤗 Glücklicherweise war die Halle nicht überfüllt, sodass man entspannt durch die Gänge flanieren und stressfrei Gespräche mit allerlei Menschen führen konnte. Besondere Highlights zu Neuankündigungen waren dieses Jahr weniger zu finden. Was aber definitiv brandneu in die Tasche wandern musste war die Alpin-Erweiterung zu Mischwald!! 😍 Wir nutzen die Messe vor allem sehr gerne, um mit Bekannten und Freunden von Verlagen & Socialmedia und anderen Brettspielwahnsinnigen zu reden und mit diesen natürlich auch zu spielen. Glücklicherweise läuft man sich auf gröseren Brettspielevents immer wieder über die Füße 🥰 Nebenbei haben wir uns auch das ein oder andere Spiel zeigen lassen. Besonders interessant waren hier Quartz von @till5am_games, Chronofall von @ornamentgames und Monsters on the Moon vom @spieldasverlag. Leider sind kooperative Spiel ja nicht wirklich was für uns, daher können wir Chronofall nur allen Koop-Fans ans Herz legen!! 🙏🏻 Weiterhin hat uns @ornamentgames ihr zukünftiges Projekt Eternitium gezeigt. Ein Deckbuilder mit tollen Illustrationen. Das wird eher etwas für uns 😊 Zum Abschluss des Tages durften wir mit den überragenden @dicedudes_suchtproblem Flügelschlag spielen. Für uns die allererste Partie 🙈 #besserspätalsnie Tolles Spiel, angenehmer Wohlfühlfaktor mit sehr wenig Interaktion. Super für harmoniebedürftige Runden. What's your favourite board game related to books❓️ Books of Time | THOUGHTS by Filip Glowacz published by @boardanddice Books of Time. Our opinion. Go! 🟢 Binders - These are fun! Yeah, you could just turn cards over. But would it be as intuitive to check what lies ahead or behind? Probably not. Card quality is great so don't worry about them ripping off; 🟢 Production - It's almost a staple with Board & Dice Games. Durable components, terrific presence, beautiful artwork, great iconography... 🟢 Flow - It all feels interconnected. There are some natural decision branches but it's quite clear where everything fits within the grand scheme which helps the mechanics sink in and propel further planning; 🟢 Tracks - We ended up realising how good of a "stepway" each one can be. Choosing which bonuses to get and which ones to forfeit to value your objetives is harder than it apparently looks! Each bonus, though, functions almost as an individual goal. Take too long and you'll lose the oppprtunity to reach further, better ones; 🟡 Pages - These, in general, provide a gazillion ways to get and (mostly!) convert resources - that's why activating them might feel a bit underwhelming. On the other hand, the immediate bonuses you get as new ones enter your books and when you're closing them rewards with fair proportion the effort you had to get them; 🟡 Objectives - These give meaning to what you're "writing" on the pages. How it's done, though, had room for more than simple Set Collection with some degree of luck dependence. In the end, it works just fine and will fit nicely amidst all things you have to consider; 🟡 Tactical - This acts more as a warning. It's hard to keep a long running strategy. As you layer more cards of top of others that had some purpose, now you need to activate them, to even get to where you planned in the first place... In the meanwhile, new cards will arrive to the display that'll probably change your plans either way. Akrotiri (2014) Z-man games Hope you're not tired of old Z-man games yet, but if you are, well that's the last one, I promise. And, traditionally, the last one is the hardest. It's our shelf of shame regular as we couldn't get the rules for 3 years 🙈 But attempt number 4 (or 5?) was a success!! 🥳 I have a mixed impression. I actually liked the game. Mostly it's really simple but at the same time there's something in every tiny part of it I can't understand...uuuggghhh!!! Like there are 2 types of coins: 1 (obviously) and a fish. How much is the fish? It's 5 but you have to look for this information which is so annooouying! And the whole game is like this. I'd like to remind that I've liked the game 😅 It's a pick-up and deliver game, which is not an easy genre, but what makes it interesting is orienting tiles so that certain symbols are in certain... directions, I guess that's the proper word. If they are you can excavate your temple (and you do want to excavate the temple, everybody does. They're made of clay by the way). Simple (not). This spacial thing is cool and thinky. Later I checked out the designer - Jay Cormier - and found out that he's also designed Mind MGMT and Harrow County (this one is so so so good). The guy is full of non-standard ideas so Akrotiri doesn't surprise me that much now. Does it feel old? It feels weird yet challenging, a bit unfinished I would dare say, puzzly and it deserves a better rulebook. P.s. Do you know anybody who would love pick up and deliver?? I'm not sarcastic, just can't remember anybody saying this 🤷🏻♀️

Normaal speel ik D&D en DM ik niet zelf maar deze CoC oneshot heb ik zelfs geleid dus extra nieuw. Verder vergat ik Perudo op de foto te zetten maar er werd weer gedobbeld 🎲 en probeerden we een nieuw custom script voor Blood on the Clocktower wat de bekende blauwe rollen neemt van Trouble Brewing maae dit combineert met de demons en minions van Sects & Violets. It was my first time trying Call of Cthulhu. I have played D&D before but have never been the DM. This time I got to run the game and try a new rpg system so that was cool. Explorers of the Woodlands @fromthewoodsgames 1-4 | 45-60 min | 10+ (🇬🇧/🇺🇸 English in the comments below ⬇️) "Explorers of the Woodlands"ist ein kooperatives Würfelspiel/Dungeon-Crawler zum Thema Wald für 1 bis 4 Spieler. Im klassischen Spielmodus erkunden die Spieler einen Wald aus über 20 Kacheln. Am Ende jedes Waldes erscheint ein Boss und die Spieler müssen ihn besiegen, um das Spiel zu gewinnen! Zusätzlich zum klassischen Spielmodus gibt es noch einen Kampangnenmodus. Man kann aus vier verschiedenen Helden wählen, welche unterschiedliche Fähigkeiten besitzen. Durch das Mischen der Plättchen zu Beginn der Partie hat man nie das gleiche Spiel, was "Explorers of the Woodlands" immer wieder vor neue Herausforderungen stellt. Besonders gut gefällt mir die Grafik. Mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail wurde hier gearbeitet. Leider hat mir die deutsche Anleitung von @mirakulus.spiele etwas den Spielspaß geraubt. So eine schlechte Anleitung für eiegentlich einfache Regeln habe ich bisher nicht gelesen.
