Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 💙    Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial    The piece I’ve chosen is Sheep Grazing, Stonehenge by Richard Tongue.   Not much is known of Tongue. He was born in 1795 and lived until 1873, and was a hard-working self-taught amateur artist who chose to focus an art series devoted to Prehistoric and Celtic antiquities. It has been said that Tongue had a long standing fascination with druids and druidic history.   Stonehenge is an impressive structure and monument in Wiltshire, United Kingdom. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a very popular tourist destination. Scholars have argued many different functions of Stonehenge, being used as a form of burial ground and/or religious site, to a place of astronomical significance, to name a few. The stones are pointed towards sunrise during Summer solstice and sunset during Winter solstice. Pawpy has visited Stonehenge and found it to be an awe-inspiring place.   I think Tongue captured a sense of beauty, significance and also function with his painting. Stonehenge is clearly significant in the painting with the grey of the stones contrasting with the blue sky. Also, the grey clouds somehow connect Stonehenge to sky above in an almost mystical way.   A few visitors in the painting show hooman’s curiosity of this strange and wonderful site, conversely painting serves a sense of function with sheep using the land to live their daily lives and graze. I do think Tongue shows the interconnectedness of the monument to nature, the sky, and hoomans and animals on the ground.   I think it is a fascinating piece of 19th Century art.    Thanks for reading my reflections on this painting, furriends!!!! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙🌈     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 💙   This week, I have chosen to review a book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen to review is Enchanted Glass by Diana Wynne Jones.   Wynne Jones was a prolific fantasy writer, with a multitude of books and stories to her name.   Enchanted Glass is a story of finding one’s own inner power and using it for the good of those around you. The two main characters have to come together to face a mysterious foe.   In the novel, Jones blends magic into every day life, and has a way of showing the reader that magic is always simmering below this surface, even in every day moments. The main characters go on a journey of self-discovery about how magic effects their lives.    Jones’ books are geared towards younger readers, but I do think older readers can find something interesting in the story, too.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Enchanted Glass.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 💙🌈    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and it’s a day for a quote discussion.   “Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.”   Today’s quote comes from Maya Angelou.   Angelou, born in 1928, in St Louis, Missouri, and after working a lot of jobs including fry cook, nightclub performer, and also working in the theatre, Angelou became most famous for her literary and theatrical work. She wrote a great swathe of poetry, books, plays and albums during her years.   Many awards have been Angelou during her lifetime, with Pulitzer Prize for her poetry, Grammy awards for her spoken word albums, and she also received the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. During 2022, she was the first African American woman to be featured on a US Quarter, during the run of the American Women Quarters series by the US Mint.          Angelou, despite her tough upbringing, prided herself on trying to make the world a better place. I believe through this quote, she wanted people to use their own sense of empathy to give kindness, even when life seems tough. It’s acknowledges life’s struggles but wishes kindness on everyone.   Pawpy and I just want to say to everyone thank you so much for your kindness and love. Recently, it was my Angel Sister @princess_flopsy_bunny two year Angelversary and it was a tough day for us. But, with love, you all created a beautiful rainbow in remembrance to her. She is still loved by many of you. Pawpy and I felt that love, and I know Flopsy would have felt it too. Thank you. 🧡🌈   Thank you also for reading my Maya Angelou quote discussion, today! Much love, everyone! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 📚🖼🌈     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 💙📚    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and it’s time for a quote discussion.   “If you don’t like road you’re walking, start paving another one.”   Today’s quote comes from Dolly Parton.   Obviously, Dolly Parton is a world renowned musical artist. Born in 1946 in the town of Pittman Center, Tennessee, and by her own admission, Parton grew up “dirt poor”. But with her innate ability to be charismatic and entertain people with her voice from an early age, Parton, worked hard to raise money for herself and her family.   For near enough 60 years, Parton has been an incredibly popular musical artist and also philanthropist, amongst other ventures.   Through the Dollywood Foundation, a non-profit organisation, and the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program, thousands of books are given to children in many different countries to help them with their reading and comprehension skills. By 2018, over one hundred million books had been gifted to children. Parton started this cause in tribute to her father, who never learned to read or write.   Parton’s quote is simple but so deceptively effective. Hoomans always talk of path they are on. Does the path continue for life? Hoomans should and can create their own paths, create their own future to walk towards. If one doesn’t lead anyway, go on another journey.   Again, the quote seems so simple, and in someways it is, but it is such a wonderfully pawsitive one, and one that everyone should never forget. Even if baby steps are all that you can manage. Thank you for reading my quote discussion, today! Much love, everyone! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙🌈📚🎨🖼     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 💙📚   This week, I have chosen to review a book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen to review is Mayflower by Kevin Jackson.   Kevin Jackson was a writer, essayist and broadcaster and wrote Mayflower as part of a wider series of Seven Ships Maritime History.   Mayflower is an interesting read and delves into the reality behind the story that most people know, especially Americans. Jackson does a good job of giving an honest view of how the whole event played out. From the history before the voyage, the stuttering start to the voyage, to the extreme privation during and how Native Americans truly helped the Mayflower voyagers in their hour of severe need.   Being a short book as part of a wider series, a criticism is the book is a bit on the short side, and has to omit some information for brevity’s sake.     I think the book would be good for anyone whom is looking into the Mayflower story and doesn’t wish to be bombarded with too much information right away. It’s a decent read and a good introduction to the topic.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Mayflower. It would be a good stepping stone to more research into the Mayflower story.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 💙    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and it’s time for a quote discussion. 📚   “Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale.”   Today’s quote comes from Hans Christian Andersen.   Hans Christian Andersen, born in 1805, in Odense, Denmark, Andersen grew up in an impoverished family, where he had to work as an apprentice in various jobs to fund a very basic education. It was at shortly after this time, Andersen moved to Copenhagen and discovered his passion for writing and oratory performance.   In 1822, Andersen published his first story, and continued writing such amazing works that most people all know, usually from movie adaptations. These include, The Ugly Duckling, The Princess and the Pea, The Little Mermaid, to name a few.   Andersen’s quote really sums up the moewgical nature of life. Throughout our lives, we go through incredible experiences, some good, some bad, some happy, some sad. Life conjures up so many wonderous and lovely days. It can be full of hope and love, full of sometimes possibilities that seem far-fetched and unreal.   I do believe Andersen truly was a great story teller, and knew how to really take all the things in life that make everyone who they are, and make those things even more entertaining and enjoyable on the page.   What stories can you tell from your lives, furriends? What can your hoomans tell? All these experiences, hopes, dreams, form this wonderful fairy tale called life. Thank you for reading my quote discussion, today! Much love, everyone! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙📚🎨🖼🌈     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 💙📚🎨🖼    Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   I haven’t presented an art review in a while, so I thought I would, today!   The piece I’ve chosen is The Highland Pastures by Peter Graham.   Peter Graham was born in the Scottish city of Edinburgh in 1836. Having returned from a holiday in Deeside, Graham felt inspired to capture landscapes and all the nature that is a part of it.   His work earned him high praise and elected status of Honarary Member at Royal Scottish Academy and also an Associate position of the Royal Academy in London in 1877. His work has been and still is shown in different parts of the UK, from Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, National Museum of Wales & Guildhall Art Gallery in the City of London.   With his painting, I think Graham truly understood the rugged and incredible landscape of the Scottish Highlands. The Highland Cows, or Coos, as they are known, have a tough yet majestic aura to them. They understand their surroundings and are equipped to live in these challenging pastures and craggy moors.   There is a certain nobility within this painting and although Graham doesn’t shy away from depicting the difficulty of life within nature in the Scottish Highlands, he shows a real reverence and respect for the Highland Coos and their environment.    Thanks for reading my reflections on this painting, furriends!!!! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙🌈     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   Art attribution: Leicester Museums and Galleries

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 💙🌈   This week, I have chosen to review a book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen to review is The Snail and the Whale written by Julia Donaldson & illustrated by Axel Scheffler.   Firstly, today’s book is primarily aimed for children, but I shall argue that adults would find it very sweet too.   Donaldson and Scheffler have produced some wonderful books in collaboration over the years and The Snail and the Whale is most definitely one of those.   It’s a tail of two completely different species coming together to have an adventure of a lifetime. That said, although both main characters are different, I think the book shows how interconnected nature is. Our bonds with each other aren’t that different, when we really look at it. We are all together.   Taking on a rhyming style of telling the story, the book has won numerous awards over the years and was even made into various forms of stage and media work. A stage play toured the world from 2012 onwards and the story was even made into a short film, which is also beautiful.   As you can tell, I love the story, and its themes, how it shows our interconnectedness and the art of the book is just wonderful. Pawpy and I love the book.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to The Snail and the Whale.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 😻💙    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and it’s time for a quote discussion.   “Let us be grateful to the people that make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”   Today’s quote has been attributed to writer Marcel Proust.   Born on 1871 in Paris, Proust was involved in writing and also publishing from an early age. He wrote literary reviews in his early twenties. The author Graham Greene, who wrote such classic as Brighton Rock and Our Man in Havana, called Proust “greatest novelist of the Twentieth century.”   I do love the quote as I think Proust, wants to show how good and decent furriends can lift you up. They can eliminate the bad in your life, the weeds, and can replace them with beautiful flowers and foliage.   I think Proust, wants us not to feel sad about the things we haven’t got in our lives, but appreciate the kindness and love we have in lives already. To be appreciative of those who make our days and lives better with their compassion and consideration.   On that note, I just want to again say how thankful I am to all of you whom wished me a happy birthday and participated in my Birthday Pawty over the weekend. 👻🥳   #DobbysSpooktacular13thBday   I do apologise for the time in which it took me to respond to all of you. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 😻💙   This week, I have chosen to review a book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   This book is The Mist by Stephen King. With my Spooky Birthday coming up, I thought why not review a King book?   As you all know, Stephen King is a prolific fiction writer, mostly of horror, suspense and supernatural fiction, but he has gone into other genres too. He has also written screenplays, been an actor, producer and director of movies in his time too.   Many of King’s works have been made into films and TV series, with the book I am reviewing today being made into a movie starring Thomas Jane in 2007.   The Mist has several themes running through it. One of the main themes of the book is fear, and what fear does to people’s ability to rationalise the world around them. Some of the characters in the book conduct themselves in fanatical and aggressive ways with irrational intentions.   It also features ways in which hoomans react or think about the unknown. The mist within the novel becomes a strong character in itself, that induces a creeping tension within the story. The novel also examines how isolation can have an effect on people even in familiar places.   The novel and movie are both interesting, even if you aren’t a big King fan.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to The Mist.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Love you, Bro!!!! 💙🌈   Don’t forget, it’s my 13th Birthday this Saturday 9th March! Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 💙📚🎨🖼   This week, I have chosen to review a book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   This book is Pete the Cat’s Groovy Guide to Life by Kimberly & James Dean.   Kimberly & James Dean have created a sweet book for children (mainly) to gain inspiration from historical figures and apply it to the world around them.   As you all know we love books and quotations here at Brownie’s Book Corner and this book is a beautiful combination of both! There is so much sweet pictures in the book too. It is a children’s book, but I would argue that some of the quotes within definitely apply the adult hoomans and their lives too.   If you ever feel you’re lacking in inspiration or even confidence in your life, this book would definitely change that. The art, quotes and approach of the book is beautiful and helpful. Plus, obviously Pete the Cat is totally cattacular, I think you would agree, furriends?!   Pete the Cat stars in many books from the Deans, and if they are like Groovy Guide to Life, then they will all be so cute and sweet, and also have a wonderful message.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Pete the Cat’s Groovy Guide to Life!!! It is such a sweet book!!!   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 💙🌈📚   This week, I have chosen to review a beautiful book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   This book is Tubby Custard by Michelle Camm.   Tubby Custard was a sweet doggy who’s first Mumma was very ill. Sadly, she had to give him up to a Staffy charity called @seniorstaffyclub   Through this charity, Camm and her family found Tubby Custard, applied to be his forever pawrents and eventually adopted him.   The book is very sweet and tells a wonderful story of hope and love. Tubby Custard was in a situation that he didn’t quite understand and was very scared, but Camm and her family gave him a loving home. This book documents Tubby Custard’s journey from his birth, saying goodbye to his first Mumma, through to his subsequent life with his wonderful family.   Tubby Custard sadly had to say goodbye to his family last year and travel over the Rainbow Bridge, but the book is a testament to him and his family. It’s a book of how love and understanding can truly change lives for the better.   You can purchase the Tubby Custard book at the Senior Staffy Club website, and Michelle Camm will make a donation to @seniorstaffyclub for every purchase. You can also follow Tubby Custard’s adventures over the Rainbow Bridge over at Facebook. Go follow Tubby Custard on Facebook and @seniorstaffyclub for details about how to make a purchase.   I’m so glad my Pawpy bought me this book to review because it is such a beautiful and sweet story of a family that changed a sweet doggie’s life and a sweet doggy that truly changed theirs.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Tubby Custard!!!   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. 💙🌈    #browniesday #quote #famousbooks #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #classicbook #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #boycat #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Valentine's & Brownie’s Day, furriends! ❤   This week, I have chosen to review a book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book is actually a play that has been transcribed. It’s The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.   Tennessee Williams was born Thomas Lanier Williams III in 1911, Columbus, Mississippi.   During his time, Williams wrote many plays that still get produced and resonate with many people. Some of the these plays are the one I’m reviewing today, also A Streetcar Named Desire & Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He was also a writer of short stories and poetry. It was be fair to say, Williams is probably considered an American legend in the literary world and received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama on several occasions.   The Glass Menagerie is a story that Williams draws from his life growing up and is one of high drama, but relatable human characters, with flaws just like every human.   The play is one of a family which struggles financially in their lives, but also a story of an ever changing world and each character of the family, wanting to pull the family in different directions, or get away from the family.   Frustrations and resentment ensue, as the characters find themselves butting heads many times. The ending is bittersweet too. It is a very real human ending, I would argue. Williams really created a play that is dramatic, yet rooted in very real times and feelings.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to The Glass Menagerie.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! Happy Valentine's Day to you all! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 💙🌈   This week, I have chosen to review a book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book is Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen.   Jane Austen, born in 1775, in Hampshire, UK was and is a renowned and hugely celebrated author of many famous works.   During her time, Austen used her work to socially critique the societal norms of the day in the UK. Austen, through her works, wasn’t afraid of questioning women’s perceived place with society at the time.   Northanger Abbey was published in 1917, which was posthumously printed in winter of that year. Austen passed away earlier in the year.   There are many themes within the novel, and I will highlight a few. Being a coming-of-age novel, the themes of sincerity and also hypocrisy come into play all too often in the lead character Catherine’s life. Catherine, being a young person, learns to navigate the adult world where sincerity sometimes is at a premium.   With experience, she understands that thinking for yourself is something to be prized and is important for truly understanding the world and all the upsides and pitfalls of it. As said previously, Austen examines societal idiosyncrasies when it comes to wealth and status within this novel. Austen almost parodies this with characters who are wealthy, and assume they are respectable, but have no decorum.   From being an 18th century writer, I would argue Austen really pushed boundaries with her work and really asked a lot of questions of society, in an accessible way for the time.    Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Northanger Abbey.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 📚💙    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and it’s time for a quote discussion.   “Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”   Today’s quote is quite a well known one that has been attributed to George Bernard Shaw.   Shaw, was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1856, but moved to London in 1876 to try his luck in writing circles. At first, he struggled to establish himself as a writer and novelist but after a period of self-education and dedication, he started to become a known theatre critic in the city.   Shaw is probably best known for the play Pygmalion, which debuted in 1913. Pygmalion eventually was adapted into the 1956 stage musical My Fair Lady.   I think today’s quote is an interesting one. It is attributed to Shaw but may not necessarily be from him. There have been claims that it may have originally been coined, albeit slightly different wording, by the Chicago Sun-Times journalist Sydney J. Harris.   The quote is a lean towards the potential in all of us to be industrious in our lives. In being who we wish to be. I think sometimes hoomans forget that they can do so much in life and so many things that create memories.   One could argue that the quote is born out of courage, too. Courage to throw away any preconceptions of who you are, and focus more on what you can be.     Thank you for reading my quote discussion furriends! Much love! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙🌈📚🖼🎨     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

It's a different Brownie’s Day, today. 💙   Today has been one year since The Book Corner Crew said goodbye to our beautiful Brother. Max @shadow_and_max08 was one of first furriends of Flopsy and I, when we arrived in this little animal community on Instagram.   Shadow and Max have been and always will be such a wonderful part of our lives. I’m sure I can speak for a large of number of us when I say that you are still very much loved Max. You are not forgotten, you are still an integral part of #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   I hope you’re enjoying all those twinkly stars where you are, and they light up your eyes, Angel Bro. Shadow still works hard for the Book Corner, and we all appreciate him. It’s always good to see you when you visit for pawties and events. You are missed by so many of us, but I know you are safe and happy where you are. I hope Flopsy is making sure you’re having fun in the fields and forests beyond the Rainbow Bridge.   Lots of love, Bro. Always thinking of you. 🤎🌈   #BraveMax   #LoveforMax        #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!!

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 💙🌈    Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The piece of art I’ve chosen today is Mount (Mont) Orgueil by Forrest Hewit.   Forrest Hewit was born in Salford, Greater Manchester, UK in 1870. Throughout his career, Hewit had a long association with MAFA (Manchester Academy of Fine Arts).   His primary work when painting was landscapes, in the UK and it’s Crown Dependencies, and also continental Europe. Hewit also spent much time working as Director and Vice-Chairman of the Calico Printers’ Association, based in Manchester, where Hewit worked hard to help less well off painters who wanted to pursue the craft.   If you have ever visited or seen pictures of Mont Orgueil, the castle has an imposing presence in Gorey Harbour in Jersey. It has been a significant defence for Jersey’s east coast going back centuries.   But, with that said, Hewit captures the significance of the castle but also captures beautiful Gorey village around it. Hewit has a deft way of making Mont Orgueil blend almost seamlessly into the surrounding nature, making a part of the very nature of Gorey.   I will speculate and say Hewit knew of the importance of Mont Orgueil to the island of Jersey and truly painted it with an adroit touch and heartfelt understanding.   Thanks for reading my reflections on this painting, furriends!!!! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙📚🎨🖼     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   Art attribution: Rochdale Arts & Heritage Service

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 💙🌈   This is my first book review of 2024 for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   I just want to say thank you very much to all those who attended and promoted the recent 3rd Anniversary of The Book Corner! It was a magical time at Hemmingway House in Key West, Fl.   Now, for my review. The Book I’ve chosen is Birdsong by Katya Balen.   Balen is an author of children’s fiction and also co-founded the charity Mainspring Arts, which works intently to make the arts inclusive, diverse and accessible for all people of all backgrounds and neurodiversity.   Birdsong is a short novella aimed towards older children but I would say it is for all ages. The book has many themes and finding strength and hope in times of crisis or predicament is a strong theme. I would also say the book has a strong sense of you never know where positive influence may next come from.   Without giving anything away, the character of Annie finds hope and her dreams again from an unusual source. The book is also one of not being afraid to ask for support from others. It has some sad moments but ultimately Birdsong is a story of hope and never giving up, even when things seem hopeless.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Birdsong, as it is a great story, and I think is one for everyone, not just older children.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 💙🖤    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and I’ve chosen a poignant quote.   “Dreams are illustrations from the book your soul is writing about you.”   Today’s quote comes from the author, playwright, and screenwriter, Marsha Norman.   Born in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, Norman has been a prolific writer of plays, books, and also musicals in her nearly 50 year career. She has had several works on Broadway and also won The Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award for her works.   In researching quotations for future BBCM posts, I was particularly struck by this one. It combines the abstract and ethereal with the here and now, the very real lives we live.   I think Norman’s quote applies to each and every one of us. We are all writing an incredible story, every day of our lives. Things that we may not see as significant, are definitely significant and our hopes and dreams make our lives even more so.   Brownie’s Book Corner Memorial is a place where dreams, interpretations of life, and the incredible world around us form a part of a wonderful story here on Instagram. Where are your dreams going to lead you in 2024? What story are they going to write? What beautiful pictures are they going to create for you?   I hope you can all continue to write and illustrate a very beautiful book for this New Year, furriends!!!! 📚🥳   Thank you for reading my quote discussion furriends! Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 📚💙🌈    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and we are so close to Christmas now! 😻☃️🎄🎅   With that in mind, I have chosen a Christmassy quote, today.   “I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”   Today’s quote comes from a book that a lot of you will know. One of my favourite Charles Dickens books, and one I reviewed recently, A Christmas Carol.   It is part of a wider quote within Scrooge’s transformation from incorrigible miser and curmudgeon to someone whom realises that his life has been wasted on pursuits which have made him wealthy but ultimately empty inside.   As you know, I do love this story and I do love Charles Dickens for his social commentary and the universality of his work. I believe his work can and does transcend the era on which he lived and can be interpreted for the modern age.   Obviously, what is meant in the quote and wider passage in the book, is that the good parts of Christmas (and life in general), kindness, compassion, empathy, etc will be central to Scrooge’s existence going forward throughout the year. I believe it is important that these virtues are not for just people who wish to change, like Scrooge, but for all of us to remember throughout Christmas and into the new year.   With that in mind, 2023 has been a tough tough year for quite a lot of furriends on Instagram, but our community is special because we embody those virtues I previously mentioned, all year round. Let’s continue to make our Insta community the ameowzing place it is, as we head into 2024!   Thank you for reading my quote discussion furriends! Much love! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!!      #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 😻💙    Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The piece of art I’ve chosen today is a apt one for the season. It is “Old Father Christmas” by Alice Bolingbroke Woodward.   Woodward, born in 1862, came from Chelsea in London and from an early age was encouraged to draw. In fact, all of Alice’s sisters eventually became artists and her brothers became scientists.   Eventually, through illustrating her father’s scientific publications, and the works of his colleagues, Woodward gained enough money to art schools in London and Paris. Her career led her to illustrate for many children’s books during her time. Som of which are Peter Pan, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and also the praised book Black Beauty by Anna Sewell.   Looking at the artwork, I think Woodward captures the children’s wonder at the old gentleman carrying the tree. It is as if Father Christmas is very real, in his thick coat and warm mittens, and he has come to bring them some festive cheer.   The watercolour picture, I think shows a sweet narrative, one of wonder and excitement of the season. Excitement of what the tree will look like once it is festooned with colour and light. Even the doggy is happily trotting next to Old Father Christmas, enthralled by walkies and the snow. In the bitter cold weather, there is colour and life, and a sense of eagerness of what’s to come.   Thanks for reading my reflections on this painting, furriends!!!! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!!     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   Art attribution: Bushey Museum and Art Gallery

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 💙🌈   We’re getting close to Christmas, so I have decided to re-review a Christmas classic for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen is A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.   Born in 1812, Dickens, called Portsmouth, England his home for a number of his formative years in childhood. His family relocated a few times to various towns in Kent. Sheerness, Chatham and Rochester being some of those towns.   During these years, Dickens fell in love with the printed word and became an avid reader.   Dickens’ father spent a period in debtor’s prison, and Charles and his family had periods of great poverty. Seeing horrifying poverty and experiencing some of it himself, Dickens based a lot of his work and social commentary on these experiences of poverty.   What can I say about this book? It’s incredible. One could argue Dickens really understood the plight of the poor in Victorian London and the state of Victorian society, at that time. Although a story of great wealth and poverty, A Christmas Carol isn’t a dismal tale. It’s more a cautionary one and ultimately a good lesson for us all. Scrooge, the miserly old man, realises that life is passing him by, and he has focussed on the wrong things for a large part of it.   Scrooge has three ghostly visitations that change his life for the better. In writing A Christmas Carol, Dickens wrote a hopeful tale which could inspire people to focus on life, people and the important connections we all have together.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to A Christmas Carol. A definite classic!!!!!   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 📚💙    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and I’ve decided to discuss a quote.   “If you fell down yesterday, stand up today.”   Today’s quote comes from British science fiction writer, H. G. Wells.   I’m sure a lot of you are more than aware of Wells. He wrote such amazing works as The Time Machine & War of the Worlds, to name a couple.   Wells, grew up in London and is considered to be one of the forerunners to the science fiction genre. He wrote more than fifty novels in his writing career and dozens of short stories, too.   I think the quote from Wells, is one that arguably every hooman should use in their lives, every day. Also us animals, too. Life is full of challenges, especially for hoomans in their lives, but every hooman has the inner fortitude and courage to overcome said challenge or problem. I don’t think Wells really meant it to be grandiose. He meant it for everyone. One could argue that Wells meant if you fail, you learn what not to do the next time.   We all have our own problems or challenges, but don’t be afraid to fail because you have the opportunity to learn and rise up the next time. How could any of us, hoomans and animals alike, do anything meowgical, if we didn’t have the courage to fail, then try again to do better?   Thank you for reading my quote discussion furriends! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙🌈     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 😻💙    Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The piece of art I’ve chosen today is ‘Pet Rabbits’ by William H. Ward.   Painted in 1875, Ward, a Birmingham, UK artist was a painter of genre subjects and still life. He was and still is a well respected artist. His still life work gained himself many accolades during his time as a painter. Ward, exhibited his work at the Royal Academy of Arts in London from 1850 to 1872. He was also elected member of Birmingham Society of Artists in 1856. Although he became a well respected and admired artist, Ward originally painted on very small canvasses due to a lack of confidence in his ability. But, with time and dedication to his craft eventually used his abilities to artistic credit.   When I look at ‘Pet Rabbits’ I see innocence. I see the innocence in the bonds on children with their pets. One bunny is munching away on some food, and there is another bunny snuggled into the child’s hands. It is a picture of contentment and love. Also, there is a wonderful fascination from the children as they look upon the contented and resting bunny.   I think the setting plays a beautiful part of the painting, too. The wonderful foliage and bunnies show an admiration of nature and its gifts. During this time, big cities in the UK were or had become smog ridden and unhealthy for a lot of people, so I think Ward wanted to show the beauty away from the cities and back to a natural setting.   Thanks for reading my reflections on this painting, furriends!!!! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   Art attribution: Sandwell Museums Service Collection

Today is a very sad day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 🌈 Brownie’s doggy brother Bobby @cattiehatter passed away recently, and it is such a painful loss to Brownie’s Meowmy, and also the Book Corner Crew. Bobby was such a sweet and kind doggy. He was a part of the Book Corner Crew and Insta Family and shall forever remain a beautiful part of both. There goes a saying that cats and dogs don’t get on, but with Bobby that couldn’t have been further from the truth. He was always such a happy dog that had a kind and welcoming demeanour. He wanted to be furriends with everyone, especially kitties. Even though he was an older doggo, he still had lots of energy and enthusiasm for life. Sadly, as we all know, as life goes on, sometimes our hearts are strong but our bodies are not. Bobby has left a doggy shaped hole in the Book Corner. I know Brownie, Flopsy, Bruce, Max and so many more angels will welcome him over the Rainbow Bridge. He will be met with outstretched paws and so much love. Pawpy and I love you very much Bobby and will miss you. We know you are safe and loved where you are now. Just as Brownie is, you’ll always be in our thoughts, not just Wednesdays, but every day. 🤎 #WeLoveYou #InstaFamily #RainbowBridge #InstaFamily #ForverForest #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty   #petsofinstagram #boycat #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! ❤💙    Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and I’ve decided to discuss a quote.   “Happiness makes up in height for what lacks in length.”   Today’s quote comes from the famous American poet and writer Robert Frost.   Born in 1874, Frost, achieved many awards for his prized works over the years. He won several Pulitzer Prizes and is arguably thought of as American institution.   Before becoming a poet and writer, Frost had varied employment, with jobs including delivering newspapers and also working in a factory. But, he knew his calling was writing and poetry.   Frost has several untimely and sad deaths within his personal life, and I believe that these events informed this quote. I believe Frost means that incredible moments of happiness, fun and love with family and furriends always make up for days that fall short of that. Life is a journey of ups and downs, but I do believe Frost wanted to look at the pawsitive and hold that thought when faced with times that aren’t so great.   Thank you for reading my quote discussion furriends! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙🌈   Swipe to see my entry for @pea_n_tot “Criminal Cats Wedits” today!!!   #pntswedits   I went before the Honourable Judge Flopsy assisted by my legal team of Angel Brownie and Angel Bruce, accused of the charge “Eating too many Halloween treats.” After deliberation, the jury reached their verdict. Honourable Judge Flopsy announced that I am…   Not guilty! Woohoo!!!! 😻🥳   The jury found me innocent because no one actually saw me eat all of those yummy treats, and the silly hooman who accused me probably ate them all instead!!!!  😾😹     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 😻💙   We’re so close to Halloween now, so I decided to review another dark piece of fiction for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen for this week is The Doll Factory by Elizabeth Macneal.   Macneal, an Edinburgh Scotland native and educated at Somerville College, Oxford and the University of East Anglia in England, has worked as a potter and ceramicist to support her whilst writing novels.   The Doll Factory is less about the spooky goings on that you associate with a typical British gothic novel, and more about the line between love and obsession.   As stated, some of the themes of the book are love, obsession but also thriller elements to it too. The place of women in Victorian society and the ambition from women during that time, play a part in the novel. It was a great time of change and women wanted change for their lives too, and some resented that notion.   The book explores the consequences of the obsession with possession. Not spooky possession but of wanting “things”, or in reality, treating everything like a “thing” to be possessed.   Also, the novel investigates the relationship of the two sisters in the book, and how resentment within families can build over years. Without saying too much, both sisters go on a journey of understanding, and find their relationship has the potential for reconciliation. It is an interesting novel that doesn’t follow the typical gothic tropes.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to The Doll Factory.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 😻💙    Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The piece of art I’ve chosen today is ‘Fantasy Landscape’ by Shuvinai Ashoona. It was created in 2007-2008.   Ashoona, an Inuk, was born 1961 in Cape Dorset, Northwest Territories, now Kinngait, Nunavut in Canada. She comes from a family of celebrated Inuit artists and utilises pens and pencils in creating her art. She is also a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA).   A lot of Ashoona’s inspiration comes contrasting elements of real life and imagination and impression. She was awarded the Gershon Iskowitz Prize for her amazing contribution to visual arts in Canada. Ashoona’s work has also been exhibited in the Glasgow Centre for Contemporary Arts in Scotland, UK.   In looking at Fantasy Landscape I do believe Ashoona wanted to convey the strong bond of the rugged and harsh life of Inuit people, the brutal nature of the frozen artic world and the beautiful and beguiling belief system of the Inuit people.   Stars play a vital role in life and death, with passed souls becoming stars in the night sky. I think she really wanted to combine this spiritual connection between the here and now of Inuit life and the ancestors that light the night sky. All of which combine to make an almost magical universe.   The terrain and life may be incredible difficult, but I believe Fantasy Landscape shows the importance of home, and also respecting and appreciating the environment around you.   I really enjoyed researching and interpreting this one, and I may revisit some Inuit art in the future.   Thanks for reading my reflections on this art, furriends!!!! ❤   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙🌈     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   Art attribution: National Gallery of Canada

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 😻💙   It’s getting near Halloween so I decided to review a spooky book for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen for this week is the debut novel Banquet for the Damned from the horror writer Adam Nevill.   Before working as a horror writer, Birmingham, UK born Nevill worked as an editor but he credits his work as a night watchman during his 20s as a great source of inspiration as a writer.   Banquet for the Damned is broadly speaking a gothic, supernatural horror, which Nevill takes time to delve into all manner of subjects.   Briefly, the story revolves around a pair of hoomans who travel to St. Andrews in Scotland for research into a music album they shall be writing. Little do they know that their research and meeting characters for said research will lead to problems they never have could imagined. Not in their wildest dreams… Or worst nightmares.   The story is genuinely interesting and unsettling at times, but one criticism of Nevill’s debut novel is length. Nevill is an excellent researcher and the depth of knowledge in the book regarding several topics is really good. But, quite a few have said that maybe the story is a bit too long and sometimes dwells too much on detail and not pace, which arguably is a fair criticism.   That said, Banquet for the Damned is still a good novel that is unsettling at times, as Nevill incorporates some excellent horror and psychological elements to the story.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Banquet for the Damned. I knocked one cookie off for the pacing issue.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤    The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, everyone!!! 💙   Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial Wednesday and it’s time for a quote discussion.   “There is no greater education than the one that is self-driven”.   This intriguing quote came from Neil deGrasse Tyson.   Neil deGrasse Tyson is a well-known and highly respected astrophysicist and science author. He has been working with and for countless educational institutions, and has advocated for expanding and promoting the significance of the United States’ national space program.   He has authored a large number of books and co-authored a number of scientific publications and research papers.   Tyson is well known to be a person of fastidious enquiry of all things regarding our universe, and with this quote, I believe he is saying something quite simple. Be curious. Don’t let your curiosity and inquisitiveness ever dim.   Broadly speaking, hoomans arguably too much nowadays, with vast amounts of information at their very fingertips, think they know about the world and universe more than ever, but they probably don’t. They may have a basic, rudimentary grasp of some things in the world and universe.   But that’s purrfectly okay. I think Tyson means it’s okay not to know about things, what’s important is accepting that and using that base as a springboard to learn about the world with your own enthusiasm and fervour. Be curious and have passionate enquiry regarding the world and the universe.   Thanks for reading my quote discussion, furriends! ❤       The Book Corner continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day! 😻   It’s special book review time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen this week for this special review is Minxy and the Pumpkin Pies by Lindy Haigh.   Lindy & Minxy @lindyhaigh & @minxyhaigh_cat are a pawsome hooman and kitty duo, where Lindy documents all the incredible Catarnia adventures that Minxy goes on! This book is so incredibly sweet. Minxy and the other main character Mr White are funny and kind. They find themselves on an adventure in Florida and make a wonderful new furriend. The pictures in the book are very cute and make the book special. It also features the President of Brownie’s Book Corner himself, Angel Brownie! The pictures of Brownie are super cute and how I would imagine him in this kind of book. All the characters within the book are revered for their different personalities and different ideas. It is a story for everyone.   One of the main threads of the story is something which may look different on the surface, can just be as kind and warm hearted as you or I. A lovely little book of understanding and empathy.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Minxy and the Pumpkin Pies!   It’s such a sweet book, with beautiful characters and pictures. It’s enjoyable, funny and lovely.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤   Please go check out the accounts that have been tagged in today’s post! ❤   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! 💙    Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial The painting I’ve chosen today is ‘Port Isaac’ by Aubrey Brett.   Brett was born in North London from an English father and Irish Mother in 1934. Brett starting painting in the 1960s and moved to Ireland in 1979.   His works have been sold to collectors all over the world, with Japan and Australia to name a couple. One of his paintings ‘Assaranca Waterfall’ was hung for a period of time in the Taoisearch’s Office. The Taoisearch is the official title of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Ireland.   Port Isaac is a painting that truly captures the beauty of the rugged Cornish coast down in the West Country, England. Brett captures the serene and pretty village with the juxtaposition of the jagged cliff sides. Although warmer than a lot of the rest of the United Kingdom, the Cornish coastline can and does experience very stormy and windy days during the Autumn/Fall and Winter months. I think Brett clearly wanted to show off the beauty of Port Isaac and the coast but to show its rugged and unforgiving side. Broadly speaking, I would argue Brett treats the painting as a call for respect of the beauty and also the respect the danger of cliffsides & coastlines.   The village of Port Isaac was a prominent feature of a British TV series called “Doc Martin”. If you wish to see how wonderful Port Issac is, do have a look at that show!!!   Thanks for reading my reflections on this painting, furriends!!!! ❤🎨🖼   The Book Corner, works in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week!!! 💙📚🎨🖼     #Browniesday #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   Art attribution: Royal Cornwall Hospital

Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, everyone!!! 💙🌈   Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial Wednesday and it’s time for a quote discussion.   “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”   This is a fun yet meaningful quote from Dr Seuss.   Theodore Seuss Geisel was a children’s author and cartoonist that captured many children’s imaginations for decades. Geisel adopted the name “Dr. Suess” during his undergraduate and post graduate studies in the US and Lincoln College, Oxford.   I think Seuss wanted to inspire children (and adults) to realise that each and every one of us are brilliant when we are ourselves. When we show our personalities and all the quirky idiosyncrasies we all have.   Life can be so fun when we show all of our own personalities. Suess, I think, wants everyone to feel happy and never be afraid to show our excitable and fun sides!   Thanks for reading my quote discussion, furriends! ❤   With the quote in mind, a very pawsome bud of many of us is 9 years old, today!!! Toby @thetobe913 you are such an awesome furriend by just being you!!! You rock, bud! I hope you have a very pawsome Birthday, today! 😻🥳 Furriends, don’t forget we are all having a cattacular pawty with Toby this weekend!!!! Happy Wednesday & Brownie’s Day, furriends! ❤    Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 🎨🖼   I have an awesome edit for #pntwedits to show, too! ❤   The painting I’ve chosen today is ‘Rabbits’ by Samuel John Carter.   Carter, born 1835 in Norfolk, UK, was an extensive painter of animals, including wildlife scenery. He received his art training from landscape scenery painter John Sell Cotman in the Norfolk town of Swaffham.   Carter’s work was even exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, with famous Victorian polymath John Ruskin praising his work on several occasions.   Howard Carter, Samuel’s youngest son, was the principal discoverer of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922.   I’ve chosen the painting of ‘Rabbits’ principally for it’s incredible beauty. With it being an oil painting, its textures and shades are exquisite. The rabbits fur look so so soft, so much so, it makes you want to stroke the bunnies. It has been said that Carter would be able to recreate incredible detailed works from memory alone. The bunnies, presumably a mother with her kits, is a wonderful symbol a family eating together, with maybe some of the other kits looking to explore their dwelling inside a barn of some sort. It’s a simple yet wonderful painting, in which Carter spent hours defining every strand of fur on each rabbit. An excellent painting, indeed.     Thank you for reading my review, furriends! ❤   Swipe to see my entry for @pea_n_tot “Back to School Wedits” today!!! Happy Brownie’s Day! 😻💙   It’s Wednesday, it’s book review time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen this week is Wild is the Wind. It is the second book in the book series about nature from the illustrator Grahame Baker-Smith. ❤📚   As most of you probably know, I reviewed The Rhythm of the Rain, which is the first book in the series, a short time ago, and I really loved the book. I got Pawpy to purchase the second and third books in the series by Baker-Smith.   The second book elaborates on the significance of wind in shaping the Earth as we know it, and equality importantly the book follows a beautiful swift, which follows a path of migration of many thousands of miles.   Two young children, Crassi & Kun, in very different parts of the world, await the changing seasons and long for their feathery friend to arrive. The story shows the incredible journey that migratory birds have to engage in for the survival of themselves and for their young.   Baker-Smith has a wonderful way of encompassing so much emotion in his art and books. The art in Wild is the Wind is so evocative. It draws you in and keeps you gripped with the colours and beautiful details.   (If you wish to know more about Baker-Smith please read my previous review.)   Baker-Smith’s story through words and art, inspires you to imagine you are flying with the swift, and urges you to hope the bird makes its perilous journey.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Wild is the Wind as like the first book, it shows the incredible grandeur and simplicity of nature.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Brownie’s Day! 😻🖤   With it being #BlackCatAppreciationDay 😻🖤 tomorrow, I have decided to make this a special book review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen is The Station Cat by Stephen Hogtun.   Hogtun is a writer/illustrator who lives in Norway by an amazing fjord with his family and several rescue animals. He has written and illustrated several books, including the picture books DEEP & also Leaves.   Where should I start with this book? It is an incredible story and pawtrait of a little black cat bringing hope, compassion and love back into so many hooman lives.   It is a picture book, but I would most definitely argue that it is very much for all ages. The little cat in its innocent and unconceited way, touches and improves a lot of lives with kitty snuggles and little meows.   The art style of the book with its watercolour and washed out pastel shadings is a beautiful accompaniment to the story. It truly projects how hope can make people see and feel different colours and how the little cat helped people see those colours once again.   I won’t talk about the ending of the book, but I will say Pawpy and I watched a read-through of the story from the author on YouTube. I heard my Pawpy sniff and snuffle and could see he was smiling and a bit teary at the end. I looked up at him and he gave me a little head stroke. Life is good. 😻🖤   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would most definitely give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to The Station Cat. It is a beautiful and touching story of compassion and hope. I love it and so does my Pawpy!!   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Brownie’s Day! 😻💙   It’s Wednesday, it’s book review time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial   The book I’ve chosen this week is The Rhythm of the Rain by Grahame Baker-Smith.   Baker-Smith has worked as an illustrator for over thirty years. Baker-Smith, started out in the artistic field whilst in his early twenties and living in Oxford, UK at the time. He toiled with passion and enthusiasm to teach himself how to draw and also paint.   The Rhythm of the Rain is part of a wider four part series about nature which Baker-Smith has released three, and is the fourth is yet to be released. I will eventually review all four.   Although primarily for children, I would definitely argue Rhythm of the Rain can be viewed by adults. It is a sumptuous exploration of the water cycle and how that cycle is so important to life. Through Isaac, a young boy, you get to observe how his act of emptying his small jar of water into his favourite pool by the mountainside causes a series of events that cascade throughout Earth.   The picture book is a beautiful illustration of how important water is and how we are all interconnected by this precious part of Earth. So really, today’s post is a book and an art post!!! 😻📚🎨🖼   The flowing and graceful water colour style of art within the book really makes you believe you are part of the same journey of Isaac’s jar of water.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Rhythm of the Rain as it a truly beautiful artistic book that conveys how important water is to many on Earth, human and animal alike.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Brownie’s Day! 😻💙🌈   I am relaxing on my comfy cat bed this Wednesday!   Today is art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻🎨🖼   I have an awesome edit to show, too!   Tha painting I’ve chosen today is ‘A view of Lake Sortedam from Dosseringen looking towards the suburb Nørrebro outside Copenhagen’ by Christen Købke.   Born 1810 in Copenhagen, Christen Købke is considered as one of the best known painters of the Den danske guldalder (Danish Golden Age), which ran from about 1800 to 1850.   The painting ‘A view of Lake Sortedam…’ has received different interpretations over the years, which has caused varying debates within the artistic field.   Some critics have jostled over the idea that the painting is hopeful, despondent or something in-between. The ambiguity of the boat within the picture, whether the boat is leaving hopeful, or returning in despondency is a contentious idea in the today’s art world.   Copenhagen, like most industrialising cities, was filthy, smoggy, and full of crime, so Købke could well have painted something a bit more romantic than what he was seeing in Denmark at that time. In his paintings, Købke was always intrigued by Danish national identity and with the Danish flag visible, Købke trying to examine what Danish national identity actually meant at that time.   Thank you for reading my review, furriends! ❤   Swipe to see my entry for @pea_n_tot “Barnyard Bash Wedits” today!!! Happy Brownie’s Day, everyone!!! 💙🌈   Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial Wednesday and it’s time for a quote discussion. 😻📚   “Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.”   Today’s quote comes from the Danish philosopher and writer Søren Kierkegaard.   Kierkegaard, born 1813 in Copenhagen, is considered one of the forefathers, if not the forefather of the existentialist philosophical movement.   At a time of great political and social upheaval during the 19th century, Kierkegaard worked tirelessly writing an incredible amount of journals discussing all manner of topics and ideas. A lot of Kierkegaard’s work is based on the ideas of freewill, self-expression and human experience.   With my understanding of Kierkegaard’s quote, I interpret it to mean to finding or seeking out real experiences in life. Some in the modern hooman world seem to think that happiness is an end goal, an objective to be achieved. Using my understanding of the quote, I would argue that happiness isn’t what hoomans should be aiming for, pleasurable and fulfilling experiences should be the true goal. Happiness and fulfilment would be byproducts of said experiences.   I guess Kierkegaard is saying don’t worry about life in itself, think about and aim to have all the incredible experiences you can have within your own life.   To me, it is a simple quote but really drives home the point of enjoying the present moment. Being sure to take in all the sights, sounds, and interactions you can have in the world around us.   Thanks for reading my quote discussion, furriends! I always appreciate your support! 😻❤      The Book Corner continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Love you, my Bro. Happy Brownie’s Day! 💙🌈   It’s Wednesday, it’s book review time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 📚   This week, I’ve chosen the novella Dolly: A Ghost Story by Susan Hill.   Hill is a prolific British writer of gothic horror and supernatural stories. Hill is probably best known for her work “The Woman in Black”, which I have reviewed before for BBCM. It’s an excellent book, and also the film starring Daniel Radcliffe is entertaining, as well.   Dolly: A Ghost Story has many different themes, and it’s not strictly a “ghost story”, more of a suspenseful supernatural story.   The themes that run through the book are the effects of obsession with material wealth on the psyche and also, how the longing for such things can also affect the ones around you as well.   Without giving too much away, the two main characters (cousins) are at odds with each other, one character’s (Leonora) avarice and behaviour being a great evil within the story with the other character, Edward trying to stop Leonora’s behaviour out of fear of repercussions. Leonora’s overwhelming selfishness and also insecurities do play a significant role with the story.   Some have argued that Hill leaves far too many questions and loose ends within the novella, and it could be by design or not. With that in mind, it could be argued that with a few loose ends and potential broad interpretations left open, the story leaves too much up to the reader.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪 to Dolly: A Ghost Story as it does leave quite a lot unanswered, and leans heavily towards things being left to interpretation. Maybe a bit too much.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Brownie’s Day! 💙   Today is Wednesday, it’s an art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and an awesome edit day, too! 😻🎨🖼🌈   The painting I’ve chosen for today is ‘Summer Night by Harald Sohlberg.   Harald Sohlberg was a Norwegian artist, born 1869 in Christiania (the former name of modern Day Oslo) and attended the Royal School of Art and Design of Christiania.   Sohlberg is well known for his paintings of Norway in a Neo-romantic style. His works varied from cityscapes of Oslo to capturing the vast expanses of Rondane National Park in Innlandet County.   With painting Summer Night in 1899, Sohlberg was celebrating a recent engagement and I believe wanted to capture a sense of romance in his life at that time. There is a sense of calm in the artwork, with the table now strewn with half-drunk glasses of alcohol yet with persistent and beautiful colours of the scenery in the background. Happy Brownie’s Day, everyone!!! 💙   Today is #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial Wednesday and it’s time for a quote discussion. 💙📚🌈   “Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.”   Born in 1842, William James was an American philosopher and psychologist and is considered by a lot of historians as the “Father of American Psychology”.   James, well versed in many educational fields, including the aforementioned subjects as well as history,  is argued to be the first educator to offer a psychology course in the US. James also travelled extensively across the world and these excursions ultimately helped shape his philosophical thought and output.   Today’s quote is a simple one, but holds significant weight. I think James was highlighting the significance in all our thoughts, interactions, and general processes.   Let me give an example, you may send a brief hello, how are you message to one of your furriends. One may think that is innocuous and is a standard thing, but the receiver of said message may be having a bad time that time, and the message may very well lift their spirits.   Arguably James, wants everyone to be conscious that their thoughts and actions have meaning. True meaning, even if you may not think so at the time.   Thanks for reading my quote discussion, furriends! ❤   It is Angel Brownie’s Birthday tomorrow. I hope you can all feel the love, Angel Bro! The Book Corner, your creation, is something that provides a lot of meaning for so many, every single week!!!! 💙   #InstaFamily     The Book Corner continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Happy Brownie’s Day! 💙   It’s Wednesday, it’s book review time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻📚   This week, I’ve chosen the novel The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain.   Twain is obviously famous for many novels, including The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn & also The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, amongst others. Around the time of writing, Twain had visited quite a few European countries, as he hoped to gain inspiration from lots of different ways of life and thinking.   There are several themes that run through the novel and I shall highlight a few within this review.   A general overview of the story is one of a body swap and the consequences of two individuals whom are doppelgängers and share the same Birthday, who choose to live the respective lives of the other, one a poor existence and the other, a royal one, for fun.   Reading the story, one can argue that understanding of the variations in hooman existence and also empathy towards hoomans that may not be as privileged, are driving themes in the novel. Twain wrote the story after his second tour of Europe.   Although written for children, I think Twain used the novel as a reminder for adult hoomans, to recognise that other’s situations may be completely different to yours. Also, arguably it is tale centred on the idea that appearances can be deceiving.     Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to The Prince and The Pauper as it is a excellent cautionary tale to never judge a book by its cover!   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Today is a different day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial Wednesday 📚🌈   “Friends become our chosen family.”   I don’t know for whom this quote can be attributed to, but I think for today it is impawtant and very apt.   Our furriend and member of the Insta Family @thetobe913 , his Dad, Meowmy and immediate family are going through an incredibly sad and quite frankly, horrible time right now. Toby’s Dad is very very sick and shall be saying goodbye to his family sooner rather than later. Life can be incredibly cruel and heartless at times, but what the Insta Family can do for Toby and his family now and forever is give endless love. We are the Insta Family and we can all be there for Toby’s Dad, Meowmy, Toby, Juno & Daisy at this time and forever. ❤   Our little corner of the internet is a beautiful place, where we all may be different, come from different places, have different opinions, but we all come together as a family with love and understanding. A family of love in this big wide world.   I want to say to Toby and his family, we all love you and are always here for you all. ❤   #InstaFamily     The Book Corner continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. It’s Wednesday, it’s book review time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻📚🌈   This week, I’ve chosen the science fiction novella The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells.   H. G Wells, as you may know is writer of such classic science fiction works War of the Worlds & The Time Machine, to name a couple. His work although science fiction, had elements of social commentary and history too.   Published in 1897, The Invisible Man is another one of Wells’ well-known works and covers a plethora of different topics, some of which I shall discuss. The first, and I believe very important one is in the form of a question. Would you act with impunity if you knew there were no consequences?   Although the main character is a scientist, considered a person of reason, there things he does which most, if not all would consider completely abhorrent. He performs theft to fund his experiments and there is also a scene in the novella which is deeply unpleasant, which really starts to define Griffin’s (main character) lack of empathy.   Wells, in the novella, postulates that some in society, if given the chance (through invisibility or some such) would act with impunity, yet it would lead to an unhappy existence for the person and the people around them.   The novella also imparts the cautionary message that too much self-interest and also greed may consume and corrupt the host, leaving an immoral shadow of their former selves.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to The Invisible Man. I would give 5 cookies but due to the aforementioned horrible scene, I have knocked a cookie off.   Thanks for reading my review, furriends! ❤   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. It’s #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial Wednesday and time for a quotation day! 😻📚   “Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me, just be my friend.”   Today’s quote is a simple quote, but I think is a strong one.   Today’s quote is sometimes erroneously attributed the famous existentialist philosopher Albert Camus, but there is no citation that correctly connects the man to the quote.   The quote was first falsely attributed to Camus many years after his death, and has been used by many times in different publications.   That said, I believe it is one of friendship and equally importantly, respect. I think it’s about respect and equality in each other’s personality and experience. It doesn’t place hoomans in a hierarchy or social structure. It just accepts those for whom they are, and hopes for respectful intentions.   I believe it may not delve into societal leanings or viewpoints, or maybe it does and wishes for everyone to respect each other a bit more. I do think there is a wonderful simplicity in it.   What do you think, furriends? What is your take on the quote?   Thank you as always, for reading my interpretation of a quote today, furriends! 😻📚     The Book Corner continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Love you, my Bro. I always hope we all do you and the Book Corner proud! 😻💙🌈   Swipe to see my picture for @pea_n_tot ❤   #pntswedits   I hopped into a time machine for this month’s theme “Cats to the Future.”   When I stopped in my journey through time, I arrived in a bizarre place. No hoomans, no kitties, just a clock, frittering away into the sky. I will investigate this strange new world and hope I can return to my own time… 🙀   #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #boycat #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   Time picture attribution: Image by vecstock on Freepik

Today is Wednesday and it’s an art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻🎨🖼   I’ve chosen the classic Scottish painting The Monarch of the Glen (1851) by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer for this week’s piece.   Landseer wasn’t actually a Scottish artist; he was born in London and grew up in England’s Capital. He was quite the artistic prodigy when growing up, with some of his earliest works (when he was just 13) being exhibited at The Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly, Westminster.   In his early 20s, Landseer visited Scotland with his good friend Charles R. Leslie, and that visit had a profound effect on his art and his personal being, as well.   Landseer was considered to be part of the Animalier movement where artists focussed their ideas and intentions on the realistic, but with juxtaposition, some would also argue romantic, depictions of animals. The Monarch of the Glen, I believe, covers both of these different facets.   Although most would consider the painting a bit kitsch and dated now, I do actually like the painting in which the stag and the Scottish landscape are represented. The Highlands scene with the majestic and glorious creature shows a certain pride and almost imposing natural world behind the stag.   Obviously as an English kitty I can’t speak of Scottish artistic pride, but I would love to have this painting as a symbol of the Scottish wildlife and glens. It’s imposing, it’s beautiful and is an incredible symbol.   Thank you for reading my review, furriends! ❤   Obviously, The Book Corner, in all forms, continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Hope you always enjoy all our reviews, Bro! 💙     #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #boycat #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   Photo Credit: National Gallery Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It’s Wednesday, it’s book review time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻🌈📚   This week, I’ve chosen the classic novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.   The novella first appeared in serial format when published in 1898. It has gone on to be adapted for a variety of performance outlets, including films, plays and even an opera.   Without giving away too much, the story is one of how evil, or the idea of evil, can corrupt people in ways they can’t even necessarily comprehend.   There are so many mysteries and so many things that are left in the readers hands. By this I mean, the characters and their motivations although, at first honourable, lead the reader to question this idea and the general idea of heroism. The idea of being a hero to all, saving everyone even though paying incredible cost, is an idea that is questioned through the story.   On the surface, the story is one of good and evil, but below that surface, the traditional ideas of good and evil are thrown out. The reader really must ask themselves, where is the line between good and evil in the story or if that line exists at all.   Some scholars, in recent years, have speculated that severe mental health illness and the issues with untreated mental illness forms a significant part of the story.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to The Turn of the Screw. The novella definitely is a classic story that has so many different facets and ideas running through it!   Thanks for reading my review, everypawdy!   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. It’s Wednesday, it’s time to look at a quote for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻📚   Also, it’s a special Birthday for a wonderful furriend!!! 💖🥳   “One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.”   Today’s quote is from a wonderful writer, speaker and excellent hooman, Maya Angelou.   I think the quote from Angelou really shows how impawtant courage is, in not just big decisions in life, but day to day decisions and interactions, too. Arguably, Angelou really captures some very noble values and the strength shown in being consistent, unwavering in holding those values close to our hearts.   Another impawtant aspect of this quote is potential. Angelou, emphasises the opportunity for everyone, no matter whomever you are, to be strong and courageous. I think this a universal hooman quote. Angelou has a wonderful way to really talking to every hooman.   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Today is Wednesday and it’s an art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻💙🎨🖼   The painting I have chosen today is Homewards by Owen Bowen.   Bowen, a Yorkshire artist born in 1873, drew heavily from his life in Yorkshire and he always held a deep reverence to that part of England. He set up a school of painting in Leeds. He also ventured into illustrated books. His works of art are held in several Northern England art galleries and museums.   In his time, a great deal of Bowen’s art lent itself to the impressionist style, with his views of Yorkshire and parts of its rural landscape being a huge volume of inspiration.   Homewards, painted in 1904, gives this pastoral and idyllic view of the Yorkshire countryside. The rustic and noble picture of a farmer bringing in the sheep, after a hard day performing backbreaking labour highlights Bowen’s veneration of rural Yorkshire. There is definitely a lot of nostalgia from Bowen in his works, as we all know around the 19th and 20th centuries, dramatic industrial and also social change altered a great deal of landscape in England, and Uk, from industrial buildings and pollution to stark social change as well.   As I have mentioned previously, my Pawpy loves the Yorkshire Dales and a lot of places in the different counties of Yorkshire, and he has also talked to me how beautiful rural Yorkshire is. From that perspective, I understand why Bowen and my Pawpy feel the way they do about it.   Thank you for reading my review, furriends! 😻🖤   Obviously, The Book Corner, in all forms, continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. It’s #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial Wednesday and it’s a quotation day, today! 😻📚💙   “Memories of our lives, of our works and our deeds will continue in others.”   It’s #InternationalWomensDay today, and I’ve chosen a quote from the celebrated American civil rights activist Rosa Parks in honour of all the strong and courageous women in the world. ❤   As you all may know, Ms Parks, was a strong proponent of civil rights during a time of great injustice with racial segregation being a part of said injustice.   My interpretation of the quote is Parks hoped with her quote, that the fight for civil rights (it continues today, in many parts of the world) would always be one that everyone holds close and true. By that I mean, I think she hoped that her struggle and courage in difficult times, would inspire others to keep working hard for a better day for all.   Parks, with many others, really did inspire and still continue to inspire a lot of people to hope and work for change.   I think the quote has a truly universal feel and appreciation to it. It can be applied to out daily lives with others. Be true, stand for what is good and wholesome, and never be surprised when you do good, others do good, too.   Thanks for reading my interpretation of a quote today, furriends! ❤     The Book Corner continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. 3/8/2023, 8:22:14 PM

It’s Wednesday and it’s book review time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻💙📚     The book I’ve chosen today is Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz.   Anthony Horowitz has written many novels and also wrote for quite a few TV series including a WW2 police detective series called Foyle’s War, which my Pawpy loves. Horowitz is also a playwright.   Magpie Murders has an interesting framework as a story, as it is kind of a story within a story. A tale where the main character has to investigate a murky present and look into very suspect historical events to aid detection.   Horowitz himself, has admitted that he was greatly inspired by the works of Agatha Christie when forming ideas for the novel. He wanted to create a classic “who done it?” for modern times with lots of twists, turns and asks lots of questions of the reader. He also wanted to convey a gracious nod to the past, with the novel.   One of the main and, I feel, impawtant themes running through the book is Horowitz questioning the idea of the rural idyll. The book, conveys a sense of suspense, mystery and intrigue that runs through any “idyllic” place. There may be much more lurking below a village than what one sees on the surface. This book really does keep you guessing, as any good mystery novel should do. Some may find the story within a story off-putting or confusing, so I have knocked off one cookie for that reason. Otherwise, Magpie Murders is a solid mystery book.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Magpie Murders.   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Today is Wednesday and it’s an art review day for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial and a special day for a furriend within the Insta Family. 🎨🖼❤   The piece of art I’ve chosen to look at today is The Rising of the Skylark by Samuel Palmer painted in 1839/40.   Samuel Palmer was born in 1805, and was a key figure in the Romantic movement that was a large part of the art and literally world at that time. Palmer was influenced by the poet William Blake and heavily drew from the Romanticism movement for his painting. He also was strongly influenced by the poem L’Allegro by John Milton.   Part of the poem reads 'To hear the lark begin his flight And singing, startle the dull night, From his watch tower in the skies, Till the dappled dawn doth rise'. This piece obviously had a longing for the natural world. As you can imagine, England at that time was in the midst of great industrial change, and the Romantic movement was the antithesis of this new industrial age.   Thank you for reading my review, furriends! ❤   Obviously, The Book Corner, in all forms, continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Love you, Bro. Hope you are enjoying all our reviews! 💙📚   Today is also a special day for our Angel furriend @toni_the_tabby ❤🌈   She had to say goodbye to us recently, but she has joined the Angels for a visit to the beautiful Rainbow Mountains in China, then we will all gather and watch some wonderful #TVwithToni with our beautiful furriend that will always be loved. After my review, I shall be joining you guys! We all love you, Toni. ❤    #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #boycat #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading   The Rising of the Skylark by Samuel Palmer photo credit: Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤

It’s #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial Wednesday and it’s a quotation day! 😻📚   “Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life”.   Today’s quote has come from the famous and renowned author Mark Twain, who’s actual name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens.   Obviously, Twain’s work like The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and its sequel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are considered American literature classics.   My interpretation of the quote is a simple one, but I think, an impawtant one. What I think Twain meant by his quote was surround yourself with good furriends, ones that will care about you in the sad times as well as the good. I think good books, means the written word, whether entertaining, or educational. Something that really draws your attention, keeps your brain active and sometimes reels in your heart, too.   The final piece to unpack of the quote is sleepy conscience. It could be argued that Twain meant, do right by your furriends and family. Do not hold grudges or ill-feelings. Live life with purpose and a full heart with wholesome intent. I think that’s what Twain was illuminating here, living a life that is wholesome with good intent.   I just want to say furriends, I hope you all had a wonderful Love Day yesterday. Your furriendship, suppawt and love always means so so much to my family and I. It is truly beautiful knowing that we have furriends in this big wide world that care. Thank you to all of you. ❤     The Book Corner continues in honour its founder Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Love you, my Bro. I always hope we all do you and the Book Corner proud! 😻💙📚   #quote #famousquotes #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #blackcat #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #boycat #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading

It’s Wednesday and it’s time for #BrowniesBookCornerMemorial 😻💙📚   This is my 1st book review as Honorary President of Brownie’s Book Corner! 🥳   I hope I do you proud, my Angel Bro! 💙   The I’ve chosen today is Anne of Green Gables by Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery (published as L. M. Montgomery).   The Green Gables farmhouse and other locations in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island that inspired the book, have become a popular tourist destination, with regular re-enactments of the books happening in Cavendish.   The novel really is a coming of age story, that involves the power of family and friendship, as well. Anne, whom gets adopted (the adopters actually thought they were adopting a boy), faces challenges of social etiquette of the time, and how she will fit into the world she has arrived in.   Family and the idea of, plays a large role in the story, where blood doesn’t necessarily signify family. Anne, with many characters in the story, form deep familial bonds with genuine respect and love being present. These bonds are very much like the ones a lot of us have here on Instagram. We may be on different parts of the world, have or will never meet, but there are strong familial ties with genuine respect and love being shown every day, through the good and the sad.   Montgomery published several books following the life adventures of the titular character. The translated books are extremely popular in Japan, where there is even a Green Gables replica house in a Canadian theme park in Ashibetsu, Sorachi Subprefecture.   Using the #cookiesforbrownie system, I would give 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪 to Anne of Green Gables.   The Book Corner continues in honour its founder and President Emeritus, Brownie @cattiehatter every single week. Love you, Bro, and thank you for the honour of being Honorary President!!!    #quote #famousbooks #browniesbookcorner #cookiesforbrownie #classicbook #catsofinsta #catsofinstagram #cutecat #blackcatsrule #blackcatsmatter #blackkitty #lovelycat #petsofinstagram #boycat #blackcatsofinstagram #allcatsmatter #dobby #dobbycat #artreviews #artgallery #art #books #bookreview #bookreviews #browniesbooks #cookiesandcatbernet #MovementForReading
