『出会いと別れの季節』 ※地味に長文です※ 昨日のこと 我が家で11年 家族として共に暮らしていた 愛ブヒが虹の橋を渡りました🌈 人間で換算すると60歳。 平均寿命は10〜13歳ですし ここ数ヶ月で急激に体調が悪化していて 通院や投薬など看病が続いていたので そろそろかなと覚悟はしていましたが 29日の早朝 眠る様に息を引き取りました。 老衰でした。 思い起こせば、最初から最後まで 自分勝手な奴で… 〝譲渡希望のワンコが居るから 見に行ってみる〟だったはずなのに ケージを飛び出した途端🚗助手席に 乗り込んだっきりで連れて帰る事になり そのままウチに居着く形で同居スタート🏠 散歩中の母が急突進したブヒに引っ張られ 転倒🌀記憶喪失になるくらい後頭部を 強く打って入院させられたり… オッサン並みのイビキと寝っ屁に家族が 悩まされて睡眠不足になったり… 色々ありましたけど我が家の癒しでした。 最期は飼い主が仕事で不在中、家族が 直前まで世話をしてて、ふと目を離した 隙に旅立っていたそうです。 飼い主が仕事に行く前。 玄関を出る際に、視線を感じたので 振り返って頭を撫でながら挨拶をして いたので、夜中に訃報を聞かされた時は それほど悲しくなかったのですが… 帰宅し、冷たくなったブヒを目前にすると 切なさでいっぱいになってしまいました。 普段の寝顔そのままなので 呼びかけて摩ってやれば、そのうち 起きてくるんじゃないか？って しばらく現実が受け入れられないまま 名前を呼びながら撫でていました。 その後、ペット葬儀社に連絡を入れると 当日受入可だったので葬儀の準備など 慌ただしく時間が過ぎて行き… 個別葬をお願いしたので 葬儀場に持込み、最後のお別れをした後 火葬〜お骨上げまでさせて貰いました。 飼い主として最後の務めです😔 読経などが無いだけで 人間の葬儀とほぼ変わらないのには 驚きでした。 生前、体格が良かったのが納得できる 骨の太さ😅頭も下顎も肩も肋骨も足も しっかり🦴残っていたので全部拾い 上げて骨壷に納めて一緒に帰りました🏠 家に帰っても、もうブヒはいません。 しばらくは遣る瀬無さが募るでしょう。 …の、はずなんですが 地域猫がウチの裏庭で 時を同じく出産してまして😅 生まれ変わりじゃないか？って 勝手に奇跡を感じてしまい 家に招き入れるか相談中🐈 〝Rainbow bridge〟 Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. On day 1️⃣7️⃣, we lost another kitten from the original kitten litter. 😔 The black cat with the blue collar is another one of my fosters. He has loved these kittens since the day they were born, though they're not his. He's always bathing and cuddling with them. Always nearby when mama kitty needs a break. He's the only one of my cats, or the fosters, who has taken to the kittens in this way. 😊 He stayed cuddled up to the sick kitty all day today. He did not leave that nest, even when mama kitty left, until the kitten passed, and I removed her. 🥲 4 kittens remain. 3/5 of the originals, (gray), and 1/3 of the step kitties (black). 🐱 The originals are 16 days old, and the step kitty is 13 days old today. All eyes are open. It's getting increasingly difficult to take photos of them unless they're sleeping, because of their wobbling, uncoordinated curiosities. 🥴😄 I've witnessed the passing a four tiny kittens in the last 16 days. This one was extra rough. Imagine getting dressed to take your fur pet to see the vet when he passes away an hour before his appointment! (I was in the middle of getting dressed when he passed this morning at 9:38am)! Well, THIS is what my baby did to me this morning. He had been battling kidney disease for a year. I thought I'd have a little more time with him; at least see him turn 18 in August. Meet Rza (pronounced Re-za). I wish I was introducing him to you with better news. 😔 His life and story mattered, though. This little kitten was a partially paralyzed FIP-fighting warrior, and he was LOVED. Recently, a sick, incontinent kitten was brought to us in need of help. The kitten was partially paralyzed and moved in a similar way to Queen Willow! The person who had him wanted more than anything to provide a wonderful life, but simply didn’t know how. Our animal care manager didn’t even hesitate to offer her knowledge and compassion. Rza was surrendered into our care for rehabilitation, and his human visited often to learn how to express (helping a paralyzed cat go potty). Despite his disability and sudden change of environment, Rza stayed sweet and snuggly! Then one day, he stopped eating and the seizures started. 😔 Blood work suggested neurological FIP, so our staff started treatment. His case was unusual, though. His body became extremely sensitive, the slightest touch would trigger him. The seizures continued, and eventually his body was exhausted. When I say our staff did everything they could for Rza, I mean it. We had people voluntarily staying late and even sleeping on couches overnight to keep a close eye on him! Unfortunately, there are times we can’t save them no matter how hard we try. Rza crossed the rainbow bridge with loving caretakers by his side. 🌧️🌈 Our people tried. They really did. Today, Safe Haven hearts are hurting, especially for Rza’s family who won’t be able to take him home. Rest peacefully Rza. We don’t know exactly why you passed, and we wish things had turned out differently. My sweet little girl crossed over the rainbow bridge this last week on Tuesday. She was the best dog, my soul dog. It’s times like this that would be so easy to just give up and not go to the gym, not do the things I know I should be doing and just fall into old habits. But I’m trying to be better. I’m trying to change the way I deal with stress and unbelievable sadness. Ruger was that for me—not just a pet, but a guardian and a beloved child. I’ve dreaded this moment, the first day without him, more than I can say. I’ll miss the rituals that defined our days—from how Ruger claimed half the couch, where I spent four years sleeping beside him to ensure his comfort, to his playful prance and air bite signaling it was time to go out. His paws in my hands, the fur I’m now hesitant to vacuum because it’s all I have left, and his joyous greetings, fierce enough to once warrant ‘happy pees.’ Ruger, a gift from @abbeyeeline , transformed my life. From thinking I was merely giving a needy dog a home to realizing I was the one who needed him more during my “quarter-life crisis.” Despite severe arthritis at only nine months, Ruger blossomed under care—his energy and youthfulness fooling many into thinking he was still a pup at eight. He was my storm-chasing partner, unphased by lightning, yet hilariously fearful of his own farts and holiday decorations. These quirks made every adventure unforgettable. Though he’s passed after eight wonderful years, and the tears have been many, John Green’s words ring true: some infinities are larger than others.
