My mentality across any vocal I record is that it has to not just be consistent enough for playback purposes but MAGICAL. I mean, press record, and nothing else matters until that red record light is disengaged. Fuck the studio tricks; if I can't spit a solid run-through of my bars in one take during tracking, then how am I supposed to do it live? I get disgusted at the thought of using the quick-punch button as a crutch. The breaths. The vocal intonation. The natural progression in performing a music piece or section from top to bottom that can't be replicated by splicing up countless takes... That's the essence of musicianship‼️ Conversational and realistic > artificial and robotic To me, editing in post-production oughta be minimal because the material should've been well-executed at the source. What you're looking at right now is a take folder of run-throughs of a verse. Out of those, only two of them were worth moving forward with. When I started two days ago, I laid down lots of scratch vocals, and my energy was wayyyyy off; a six hour session resulted in all subpar takes. The next session was the complete opposite; I got what I needed in an hour 30🤙. Minimal comping was used here because I, like other artists hopefully are, am picky about how my work will sound forever. The vision I've always had for myself is that I can bring it in the flesh the same way I do in an audio file.
