Neil Young „Harvest Moon“, released in 1992. I’ve had the flu for a week now. My upper airways are clear again, but the cough is extreme and exhausting. I don’t know about you, but during an illness I’m mostly not in the mood for rock music. Everything is a bit quieter. This masterpiece by Neil Young is actually suitable for all situations, but it’s perfect for times when you’re not feeling so well. It breathes the spirit of the great 1972 album „Harvest“ and hits you right in the heart with its beautiful melodies and the gentle and mellow mood. A worthy and authentic sequel. This was primarily due to the songs, but also to the fact that many of the musicians who played on „Harvest“ in 1972 were also involved in „Harvest Moon“ in 1992. These included Nicolette Larson, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor and Jack Nitzsche. It would have been super cool if Crosby, Stills and Nash had been there again. But even without them, this has become a really, really great album. I hadn’t realised just how many Moby records I owned…This was a part of a small collection of records I received as a gift from Vinyl Santa for Christmas 2021. For the uninitiated Vinyl Santa is a Twitter thing where you put your name in VS’s hat and are randomly and secretly allocated the name and address of another with the general guideline of not spending too much so second hand etc and simply making it a kind gesture. That said, vinyl collectors being who they are have a pride in gifting something that they’re pleased/proud of finding and some of the gifts I’ve received have been brilliant.
