He released 4 LPs as leader in 1957 alone while adding his talents as a sideman to Dizzy, Trane, Jimmy Smith and many more. It’s hard to call a 19 year old “seasoned” but that’s what this session sounds like. Going the quartet route, without another horn to play off, Lee tackles a set of standards with precision. His tone as sweet as the album’s title, the emotion in his playing well beyond his years. The group back him is perfect, especially Sonny Clark on the keys, a master of comping with a bluesy touch. As an active DJ who loves playing with music on turntables, there's really not much that remains sealed for long. This one was a special gift from a good friend @ivopospisil1 ...it's from their 1990 Paris reunion & one of 500 copies made. In the lower right corner, it states, "The purpose of this album is education not monetary gain," & i was given copy 200/500. I believe these were all hands given. Ivo's connection to the velvets are through his own journey of subversive rock & roll bands during the communist era in the former Czechoslovakia 🇨🇿 . I guess I've been waiting for the right moment, like a live radio unveiling of some kind. But just busting it out at home or in a small club doesn't feel right. FPI Project present Rich In Paradise - Going Back To My Roots (Rumour, 1989) I've always liked Italo house, even before I knew what it was. Whether it was seeing the videos on the ITV Chart Show or a bunch of blokes pretending to play keyboards on Top Of The Pops, there was something about big uplifting piano riffs over a dance beat that really appealed to me, even from a young age. This is one such tune - I still remember watching FPI Project on Top Of The Pops while my dad loudly bemoaned the fact it was 'just the same few notes on a piano over and over again while someone shouts 'woo, yeah' over the top'... which was precisely why I liked it, of course.

For some reason I didn’t want to post an album that I hadn’t listened to because it was new and I just hadn’t gotten around to it yet, I wanted to post an album that most likely, I’ll never listen to. I picked up this 2017, limited edition Sgt. Pepper’s picture disc a couple of weeks ago. It was ridiculously low priced. I mean less than half the price of what it should have been priced at. I couldn’t pass it up. I already have a standard 2017 pressing and the 2 disc deluxe 2017 pressing, so there’s really no need to play this one. I decided to leave it sealed and keep it as a piece of artwork. “Black And Blue” (1976) is often described as the album recorded as an audition to find the Stones’ next guitarist, but it actually ends up being much more than that. The contemporary funk sounds of the mid-seventies were where their attention focused. The songs themselves seem quite irrelevant – it’s the rhythm that is of primary importance. Consequently, this is the most laid-back, groovy album the Stones have made. It’s all one big groove, more like the Stones just messing around than trying to create perfectly crafted songs. Of course, there’s always more to a Stones album than just one style of song and two of the highlights are some incredibly tender ballads - ‘Fool To Cry’ and especially ‘Memory Motel’, a Mick and Keith duet with piano and heartfelt lyrics about love and life on the road. One of their best songs of all time. These songs are perhaps softer than typical Stones ballads, in a way that makes them extremely radio-friendly. There are also songs that sound more typically Stonian like ‘Hand Of Fate’ and ‘Crazy Mama’. ‘Hand of Fate’ is one of those hidden gems in their discography - like ‘Luxury’ - that is as good as many of the classic warhorses, but is only known by a few fans.
