The Canyon Lake Yacht Club shines the spotlight on Faye and Ron Wilbur, April Deckhands of the Month. As the former commodore, Ron Wilbur made a significant impact on the club. His tenure included organizing three clinics and orchestrating 16 community events, along with 23 exclusive gatherings for Yacht Club members, solidifying the club’s integral role in fostering camaraderie and engagement. The Canyon Lake POA Board of Directors recognized resident Larry Garland for his contributions to the community. In addition to his many performances with the Canyon Lake Choraleers, Garland served as president for eight years and coordinates ticket sales, programs, and technical aspects for the group’s concerts. He joined the Fine Arts Guild in 2016 and has served on the board in the roles of vice president, director of publicity, and director of operations. Notably, Garland was a member of the committee that developed specifications for improving the sound and theatrical lighting in the Holiday Bay Room, the venue for many community performances. Garland operates the new lighting system for all POA and Fine Arts Guild concerts. The Canyon Lake Fire Department will be hosting Donuts with Santa on Saturday, December 16, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Station 1. Attendees with have the opportunity to capture memories with Santa beside Engine 1 and indulge in donuts, hot cocoa, and coffee. Santa’s workshop will be offering crafts for kids. Dozens of Canyon Lake families kicked off their Thanksgiving participating in the annual Turkey Trot, sponsored by the Canyon Lake Triathlon and Fitness Club. Phil Dampier was the first male finisher. Michelle Morgan was the first female finisher. Ten-year-old William Paul and his sister, eight-year-old Summer Paul, were the first boy and girl finishers of the Kids Fun Run. Canned food donations were collected for the Helping Hands Group. The Canyon Lake POA accepted an offer from the City of Canyon Lake to purchase the fire station property, located on Vacation Drive. The POA currently owns the property where the city’s lone fire station is located and has been leasing the property to the city. Around December 2022, the POA informed the city that it had planned to increase the lease from $1 per year to $9,662 per month, according to the city. Following negotiations regarding a possible extension of the lease, the city issued the POA an offer to purchase the property for $1,390,000. Today, the POA Board accepted the city’s offer.
